Because he wasn't an idiot, and realized that Americans ran the show....? And for all we know, he maybe did plead in both languages, but his kidnappers may have opted to show just the English. I dunno, it seems like a moot point, especially now.

Oh, and not everyone outside the US can speak more then one language. It's not like you're born bilingual in Asian countries.
