I've only watched a few episodes, but I think they get a bunch of people together, then they sing and the best 200 or so go on to the next round. Then they do it again until there's only 20 or so left, and then people vote for their favorites via text messaging and the internets.

Yeah, except a free-for-all in which you decide who's best would be somewhat gay. I recommend for qualifiers we pair everyone up and at the end people vote on their top 5 (or 10) favorite mockers.
