Using my psychic powers, I precive that your house sits on a ancient indian burial ground. It was customary back then that anyone who walks over the grave of a chief, to offer up some food, to help keep his strengths up in the other world. Your stairs seem to be perfectly crossing his old grave. Hence the spilliage.
Damn, I see that you are lucky, another foot to the left, the stairs would of passed over the chief's wife, which would of made you suddenly jerk off and blow a wad of honor which you must NEVER clean. That might of been hard to explain to friends.

Remember the cereal NERDS? It was just like the Willy Wonka candy only not, and you could buy 10 boxes of the shit and send away for a magic bowl that had a trap door in the middle of it and you could pour the cereal in opposite sides and when you lifted the trap door the cereal would mix in a magical array of mixed cereal?

I dont remember any of that!

See, now I'd have to say that your inability to bring cereal upstairs is not a result of retardation, nor of any sort of bridge-bus-schoolchildren scenario... rather it is simple physics.

As you walk up stairs, your center of gravity is shifting, your arm is moving slightly carrying that shift of force through to the bowl. Hence; the liquid (milk) in the bowl now has an instable center of gravity aswell... and if it is too close to the lip, as the liquid sways back and forth, it spills off the sides.

Solution:

Eat cereal in an anti-gravity environment.

Get a bigger bowl, with the same amount of milk/cereal.

Less milk/cereal in the same sized-bowl.

Carry the bowl and contents on a tray, or plate, thus slightly diffusing the force from your body, and also allowing for protection in case of some spillage.

Eat your DAMNED CEREAL DOWNSTAIRS!!!
