I liked it a lot, but I think it's the first time I've liked an adaptation better than the book itself. It was damn good; in fact, I plowed through the whole thing in one sitting. The book devotes much more time than the show to explaining what's going on in Dexters head, which magnifies his sociopathy.
On the show, however, all of the characters are more developed, and I think it's a better overall story. I think the changes they made expand and improve the story, which I've never seen happen before. It's almost as though the book is a companion to the show.
