I was under the impression that HD-DVDs were fairly popular. But then again this would explain why HD DVDs are always packaged with a regular DVD format on the other side.

I knew that was going to happen eventually.

Doesn't make sense to have Blue-Ray and HD-DVD both competing for the high-end DVD market share. Bound to have one emerge as the dominant technology.

I saw this coming since Michael Bay made some noise about it when he released Transformers. People debated and argued with eachother for months that HD would be the winning market.

It's a relief too as im a soon to be Playstation 3 custormer. And that puppy comes with Blue Ray technology. =]

Now all it needs is some decent games and Sony can start climbing out of the red.

The thing, though, is that Suncoast still sells Laserdiscs.

Yeah, oh well. I'm glad the war is winding down, although the same could've been said when Warner announced their side...

Yes, the format war has been weighing heavily on my mind. Thank god it's finally over.

Seriously, though, how many people here had even started buying blu-ray/HD-DVDs? I was under the impression that most people weren't interested in any part of this battle but the winner.

I have about 10-12 HD-DVDs and a Toshiba HD-DVD player. I'm not really that bothered about this news though. It's annoying, but if I can keep a VCR under my TV for this long, I'm sure the HD-DVD player can stay there too for the occasions I want to watch a HD-DVD. I'll probably get a dual format drive for my media centre at some point also.

I wasn't. I really don't see the point of paying more for HD-DVDs when I can see the same story unfold on a regular DVD.
