Not exactly a spoiler. Hell, it's not like they've been too concerned about spoilers anyway. That's why the trailer for The Two Towers had Gandalf in it.

They kind of figure since these books have been part of the literary world for 50ish years, everybody knows the story anyway.

After Frodo dies and Sam picks up the ring, he gets possessed by it and goes on a mad killing spree and burns everything and becomes the new bad guy.
