Old Aug 13th, 2003, 11:59 PM        Lawn waterhose toy identification
I'm trying to remember the name of a lawn toy from the late 70's or early 80's. It was some sort of smiling creature with long strands of "hair" (made of tubes). You plug the hose into it and water would spray out of its hair wildly.

If I remember correctly, Pee Wee has one in his lawn in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" (he turns his on and sprays his neighbor's window).

Anyone remember what this thing was called?

thanks in advance ..

LeChuck

I beleive it's called "Giggle Wiggles". There used to be some fat lady at the flea market pawning 'em off for 20 dollars.

I asked my mom about this, she thought it was called something like "Wiggles", so you're probably right.

I haven't been able to find anything via Google or eBay yet. Anyone know more about this "Giggle Wiggles"? Better yet, can anyone find a picture of one??

thanks,

LeChuck

EDIT:
Is this what you're talking about (link below)? If so, it's not the thing I'm talking about (but the right idea).

I'm trying to find a copy of Pee Wee's Big Adventure to get a screen capture of this thing, since I'm now positive it's in the movie (when he first turns his lawn sprinkler system on, camera cuts to this sprinkler toy spraying water from its "hair" everywhere, and it ends up spraying his neighbor's window).

No, thats the uber-lame remake that they sold during the late 90's. There was an 70's-80's model that had a face and everything.

Here's a picture of the one from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (camera picture of TV .. i.e. very bad quality).

Now that I look at it, I think ours was slightly different than this (e.g. more "hair", and it was solid color). At this point, I'm not even sure what the hell kind of creature that's supposed to be either.

Anyway, someone please reply if this rings a bell

thanks,

LeChuck

I think I've solved this one. It's called "Willy Water Bug", made by Wham-O in 1980. This makes sense too because I vaguely remembered us calling it our "water beetle" or "water bug"
