Old Feb 10th, 2003, 08:30 PM        serious problem help - cat
ok so

I have to stay at my sister's place a lot in the upcoming months to help her out

anyway she lives in a small tiny place and has a cat that MUST ROAM FREE

so............................. ok i never really had to deal with aminals and I get nervous around them. Well. not when awake so much as when sleeping and them jump on your head
(i am also a light sleeper so any noise wakes me up). It freaks me out and I tend to be in a panic state.

I know its pathetic but some of you might understand

anyway, i will just deal either way, but if any of you know ways to keep cats off you please let me know I would appreciate it

Cats hate citrus, though I doubt you want to wear lemon peels all day.

Most of the stuff that offends them is meant for furniture, it sounds like you're going to have to make nice-nice.

My neighbor has a cat that always used to come to our front door and follow us around everywhere. We just started kinda kickin' it and treating it like shit and now it pretty much leaves us alone.

First, don't unpack... cats shed, and cat hair sucks. Never pet the cat. Don't let it rub against you. Throw it off of you every time it jumps on you. Pee on the couch.

You need to immediately establish that you're the predator and the cat is the prey. Put the fear of God into the little shit. You don't have to physically harm the kitty. Just scare the crap out of it. It will only come out when you're not around to eat and use the litter box.

My Cat started acting strangely today. He might have rabies. Or he could be hurt.

Man, that jumping up on you paranoia is kinda funny, but I guess I see where you're coming from. But what'll be worse than that is when you wake up in the night, hearing that 'HEEYUK'ing sound that cats make just before they cough up a hairball.
If you wanna get the cato stay away from you, and don't wana kick it, during the day, when it gets near where you're sitting, glare into its eyes. That actualy kinda gets the predator prey thing going, only without the... stuff.

I don't know about that. For my cat, at least, if you stare at him, he'll stare back, his pupils will slowly dilate, and when they reach a certain diameter, BOOM. He leaps up and playfully swats at you.

ah poop

the scaring it thing it 2 problems. 1. the cat is like a kid to them and to not make nice with it seems to be insulting. 2. this cat is a tough cookie i think. she kinda gives me the evil eye, and I am not friendly with it, and then when I turn away it will jump on me. i think it does that intentionally

ok so I might do the citrus thing, just sleep on the floor. Anyone know how effective this crap is though? Like how many time will the cat jump on my head before it figures out the citrus thing and leave me alone

if you are that light a sleeper i bet you will hear it when it gets close to you. unless it is a kitten it'll prolly leave you alone.

can't you just shut and lock the door, so the cat can't get in while you're sleeping?

Well she said she's going to be sleeping on the couch, which I assumes means the living room. I doubt there's any doors to close leading there.

Anyway, Doopa, could you enlighten us a little more as to why you get "nervous" around animals? Maybe if we understand the problem better, we can give some more helpful suggestions.

Dude, why are you responding with seemingly genuine concern and not ridicule?

Hey Re, I have a cat on my stomach as I type this! You need some liquid courage to deal with this! Ooh, I know! Maybe you can take the cat to Subway and get it to order for you!

I love this thread

Ugh, yeah. Both my cats seem to have a natural tendency to bend over my stuff while hacking up goo (and as opposed to puke, hairballs will NEVER get off completely) and walk over important papers after they've been walking through the mud outside.

Get two cats and tie their tails together with a rope. Then hang them over a clothes line, or a tree branch. They'll fight till one of them dies. Hours of fun.
