I see the logic in replacing a guy who's had dozens of heart attacks with a guy who has cancer.

Plus, Guliani has never been the head of Halliburton.

This has been rumored for a very long time. There's a reason the RNC is in New York this year....

Guliani is very popular, although I had heard rumors of him replacing Ashcroft, but who knows. Another guy on the VP list would probably be Governor Pataki, who makes good sense as a running-mate. He's viewed as a moderate Republican, he's coming off a sound re-election victory in 2002, and he has also been a monster fundraiser for Bush in New York.

Putting either of these guys on the ticket would give Bush a shot at the coup of a life time, taking NY this Fall. NY is a Democratic strong hold, but upstate NY is more conservative, someplaces VERY conservative.

I know Guliani was considering ruinning for senate though against madame Hillary.....

Rudy is a megalomaniac, so he needs his own department to control, not a VP slot. Thats why I think he will be the new AG. I still say Rice is their best bet as VP. She is qualified and it takes the legs out from under Hillary in 2008.

I agree he's way better suited to AG personality wise, but VP is a more natural springboard to the Presidency.

People seem to think that his heroic behavior during and after 9/11 (and it really was heroic, no argument) innoculates him permanently against the fact that he was kind of loony in a lot of ways. I wonder.
Plus, he's not exactly Mr. Family values.

He doesn't call it "Family Values", he has his own name for it....which Im blanking on, but he started all those committees , and attempted to start up some others, for what pretty much amounted to Family Values.

When Guiliani was the DA in New York, he fancied himself as the next coming of Robert Kennedy, fighting the Mob (and he actually won to be honest).

He doesn't get along with Pataki, but there's been talk of it being the dream ticket for two years now. Guiliani's going to want something in the way of a Senate or Governors kind of job. He's a wild canon.

Yeah, they'd never ever ever be on the same ticket. They wouldn't be a very good ticket, either. Both tend to be fairly "liberal" on certain issues. Pataki is pro-choice, and I forget where Guliani stands on the issue this week. He is "America's mayor," but he also has a history of ideological inconsistency, as well as a few blemishes here and there as mayor of NYC.

I can however see one of these guys being a good VP choice. I think Pataki's ego would be more agreeable. Guliani would probably be the most vocal VP ever.

I think W. campaign stratgey is going to be wall to wall non stop to the exclusion of everything else 9/11.

"I was a great leader right after 9/11 so I should get re-elected"

First of all, I think that's highly debatable, unless he means the part between when he stopped flying all over the country and the part where the EPA lied about toxins in Manhattan's air.

Second, I think it's deeply cynical and can be played against him.

But... What the hell else is he going to run on?

The wonderful state of the economy?

How well things are going in Iraq and Afghanistan?

How we beat Al Quaeda?

A possibility, but IMO this is risky for Bush, especially if the intelligence scandal continues to swell. The more prudent thing to do is put her in as Secretary of State, maybe.

He was pretty frustrated with the whole push towards war, and I think there's a good chance he won't stick around for a 2nd term.

Besides, there have been whispers for a while now about Powell getting kicked out if Bush is reelected. I suspect they may be true.

He's not sticking around. He said yesterday if he'd known there wee no WMD he might have questioned going to war in Iraq. I know that's pretty weak protest, but with Bush sticking to his 'what's the difference' line, it's pretty bald criticism.
