I suppose it's impossible to play Gamecube games from Canada on a PAL system?

It's like the same systems we have, but they designed to read different coded games. I don't get the point why they have it though.

PAL is used in europe and australia i think. It has to do with framerate or something. NTSC has a faster framerate then PAL.,

PAL is a standard for television and video. Differences:

FRAMERATE
NTSC: 60
PAL: 50

This means an average movie is actually about five minutes longer in Europe. Many people have believed to find Swedish uncut versions of movies only to realize the extra length is due to slower playback.

SCANLINES
NTSC: 262 (*2(+1))
PAL: 312 (*2(+1))

PAL sources give higher resulutions, but this barely makes a difference when it comes to DVD. On VHS however, you can see an obvious difference. Also, PAL has a way of storing color information vastly more refined than that of NTSC (which according to jokes stands for Never The Same Color).

NTSC is used in the US, Japan and a few other places, PAL is used in, like Blue said, Europe and Australia. There are some European countires (like France) that use the SECAM system, and others (like the Netherlands) that use different systems adapted from SECAM and PAL. The format conflict was a big problem in the Netherlands and Belgium for a while, I think.

Thanks for the tip, Dudefather. I'll check it out. Canadian games cost half of what i have to pay in Norway.

Yeah, I was considering turning anal on that too, but it's a big enough hassle to track down cuts endorsed by the director and correct aspect ratios. Better not turn into a complete psycho on my quest for cinematic purism.
