When I was 12 I had an RE class that I liked to skip. I was told that they weren't doing any work but watching a movie, so I decided to make a token attendance. The movie was See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and I happened to guffaw when Wilder waved to Pryor from across the room. Big mistake. It turned out they were watching the film as a lesson in people with disabilities working together to overcome their limitations and prejudices. I tried to argue that it
was a comedy, and was shouted down by their strawman fallacies and insinuations of my intolerance.
RE teacher:
Do you find it funny that the man can't see?
Me: As a matter of fact, I do.
RE teacher:
Then maybe this isn't the class for you.
Me: Yeah, it sure looks like I don't need to learn how to be tolerant of others.
And then I walked out.
