well i would guess they might call it a quarter of a cheese but i'm sure there's some cockney rhyming slang for it that all the east londoners use because lord knows they feel the need to sound like a psychotic in the "word salad" stage

probably like "wine kleenex" or something

I have primarily been raised in missouri/illinois. I always heard "quarter 'til".
I moved to Columbus for a bit, and first heard "quarter of". Then i found, the person who said that was from Pennsylvania.

Not to diss anyone, but it must be a regional East Coast thing.

You know, like no one says "hella" outside San Francisco.

You buy it by the Kg, not in quarters. I guess you might buy a quarter of a wheel of cheese but I've never done that.
One thing go note about the English cheese industry is that we call three quarters of a wheel of cheese a pacman of cheese. It's rare you'd ever want to buy a whole pacman of cheese though.

In terms of time we do our best to confuse foreigners by saying things like "it's quarter past" and omitting the actual hour (as a result of this no one in england ever knows the exact time).

Rhyming slang is only really used by Northern bread salesmen and criminals. Some slang has made its way south though; gypsy's kiss (piss) for example.
