As of March 15, 2005, 5,500 US soldiers have gone AWOL (Absent With-Out Leave):

Hmm...I'm sure by now the number has gone up to 6,000-6,500. Interesting that none of this are being made public...

"This phenomenon is happening under the radar of the mainstream press. "

What the heck? I've seen a bunch of stories about the armed services' recruitment woes.

I think it's refering to the AWOL soldiers.

EDIT: I just read it over. You were right. I'm an idiot.

Great source. Why don't you just get a MLK JR. bio from a Aryan Nation website, I'm sure it will be fair and objective.

The only place the military is having any kind of recruitment trouble is in the Army, and those numbers aren't all that low on a historical scale.

in World War 2 there were over 40,000 deserters in the Army alone. war is hell, and not everyone can take it. 5,500 deserters over the course of almost 3 years isn't too bad, circumstances considered.

Such is the lot cast to a war sold on false pretenses. A shame, to be sure.
