Got to see the midnight screening of the new Romero flick.
Must say, this film was the coup'de'grace of all pretenders to the Romero zombie legacy.
Brilliant one liners, such as "aaaarrraarrrrghhh."
It easily bypasses the Dawn of the Dead remake, and even squeaks past Shawn of the Dead as my favorite Zombie movie ever. Not as intense as DotD, and not as funny as SotD, the movie finds a great balance in humor, thrills, and overall suspense. You even find yourself feeling for the zombies during some of the scenes. Romero gave them emotion, gave them hopes, and gave them countless people to munch on.

I've heard great things from horror fans, and Romero fans. You end up having some naysayers, who just can't get into the film, because they're not fans. But if you go in WANTING to see this movie, it supposedly will not disappoint.

Also, be sure to look for a few cameos, one of which being a returning character from Romero's original trilogy.

I just hope Rog will like it. After all, it's no Resident Evil.

David, are you saying that DotD remake is one of your favortie zombie movies? I'm not saying that it sucked or anything but it definitely didn't live up to a decent Romero remake.

I saw the midnight showing too and there were was only one or two parts that detracted from the brilliance of this film.

Excuse me for not caring much about the spelling of a side noted movie while I was up at 3 much to excited about the Land of the Dead.

When you watch the movie, stick in for the Romeroisk type credits at the end.
Fence Fry Zombie had me in stitches.

Holy fuck was that disappointing. I love George Romero 'n all, but I think this movie was weak as far as zombie movies go. There were like two good kills and that's about it. The ending was HORRIBLE. I think overall there just wasn't enough zombie attacks in the movie... far too much downtime.

Major letdown. :/

I agree with Rog on this one, it was a pretty good flick but with a title like "Land of the Dead" you would expect a lot more zombie battling going on... they used the same group of "featured" zombies throughout the entire movie. It did have some pretty decent gore but that doesn't really say much. Basically I though it was good but there could have been more...

Where were the cameos? Tom Savini's was pretty obvious but I didn't catch Simon and Edgar from SotD.

I saw it last night. It sucked, especially the ending. The theatre was pretty packed, and everyone started laughing when one guy said, "Let's go to Canada! There's no people there!" Then they all took their zombie-squashing gun truck and went north, leaving all those people on foot to fend for themselves.

I never saw the first movie, so maybe someone can fill me in. Why wasn't there a concentrated effort to exterminate the zombies? I mean, everyone rides into that little town shoots a few zombies and then rides away. Why not go on a killing spree? Or use fire?

There was. But presumably, it just didn't work. Too many zombies too kill, too much panic, communication is limited so widespread planning isn't possible, differing opinions on what to do, etc.

Watch the first movie, it's legally free on the Internet now;

As far as I could tell, by Day Of The Dead they had the zombie problem mostly controlled, and just one installation that monitors them got taken over. :/

In Day of the Dead, the setting was a military base that had lost contact with headquarters (presumably because there WAS no more headquarters), and all they could do was try to survive, while still carrying on with their last orders in hopes that it lead to an answer and an escape.

That installation DID have the problem mostly controlled, by being sealed in underground and keeping the zombies at bay in the tunnel with a gate. But they were going to run out of supplies, and the tensions between the two groups (soldiers and civilians) were coming to a head, causing destruction from within.

land of the dead SUCKED. worst storyline, period.

for blood and gore it was great, but for storyline it was pure trash.

shaun of the dead and the remake of dawn of the dead will always own.

romero's main message in the film "have sympathy for the zombies, they're just trying to live...even if they are trying to kill you."

It seemed like Romero was more concered with the underlying theme of the movie than the actually plot... for example the "we don't negoiate with terrorists" line, among other things, seemed kind of forced.

I thought the movie was great except for like IS said with the zombie commander that was gay as shit. I dont know why you people are bitching about story line and plot...its a god damn zombie movie do you expect the plot to be like lost in translation or somthing you just expected to much out of it, it was a great movie.
