So I think I'm gonna buy one of these things. They are 49cc's and cheap to insure ($200/year) and you only need your basic drivers licence to ride them. Here in Manitoba, average car insurance on a newer car is about $1000 (usually over) and gas hovers around a lofty 85 cents/litre, which would be 3.40 a gallon
but with exchange I guess that would be about 2.30 or so. Still pretty fucking high.
Anyway, these things used to piss me off and I used to think they were pretty faggy, but not as faggy as spending my paycheck on gas. I took my friends out for a spin the other day and Goddamn it, it was so fun. The people on the sidewalk didn't appreciate me at first, but once I got comfortable enough I hit up the road. You can get these things up to about 70 Km which I assume is about 50 Miles an hour. Not as fast as a car, but pretty okay for city driving, since the gas will cost me 2 dollars a week.
Anyway, I'm still shopping around. I may finance a new one (they are about 3000 new, so I guess thats about 100 bucks a month to pay it off
rather than 350 or so for a new car
) or try and find a decent used one.
The people in this part of the world are finally feeling the effects of relying soley on fossil fuels and it turns out that this convienience is the harbringer of doom. I'm not going to go all granola about this issue since I'm probably as bad as the average college student for waste but c'mon, we've known this was going to happen for the past 40 years. Looks like we're in for some severe changes in the near future.
