Simply put: I love vintage horror prism vending machine stickers. They're amazing horror relics from the past that pay homage to some of the greatest horror movies of yesteryear, along with some of the most obscure ones. These stickers were available in flat vending machines from the mid-1980s through the early-1990s and produced by companies including Selectra International Designs, Sticca Graphics, and more. All you had to do was put some quarters into the vending machine and out would pop a random prism sticker card based on a horror movie. I loved them as a kid and plastered them over many of my belongings. If only they still cost a handful of quarters. Nowadays, some of them are exceptionally rare and can fetch hundreds of dollars for a single sticker! Sounds crazy, but that's no different than many other vintage trading cards, and some of these had far lower production runs, so you can see why some horror fans are feverish about aquiring tthem. With that in mind, I thought I'd give you a quick taste of some truly awesome vintage horror prism stickers!
First up, here's a vintage Freddy Krueger prism sticker from a scene in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. He's just waiting for Alice the waitress to bring him a nightmare pizza. Awesome, right? Indeed!
You simply can't go wrong with a sticker based on the iconic poster art of John Carpenter's classic Halloween film. Gorgeous!
There's no denying The Blob 1988 remake had some incredible gore effects, but it was also genuinely funny in parts as well. Nice to see a sticker that embraces some of that same humor!
I told you some of these stickers were based on far more obscure movies, and Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge certainly qualifies. It's an old favorite b-movie movie of mine, shot in the same mall as another horror classic, Chopping Mall!
I know the whole message of They Live is how the aliens are telling us to CONSUME, but come on... who wouldn't want to be a consumer when this killer sticker based on the original artwork was available? OBEY? Don't mind if I do.
No, that's not Freddy Krueger, but the filmmakers sure wanted you to know it was the same actor (Robert Englund) in the 1989 version of The Phantom of the Opera. Love the colors on this one!
A sticker paying homage to Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives which featured one of the most memorable posters in the franchise! There were some killer vending stickers for Jason Voorhees back in the day, and this is certainly one of 'em.
Longtime readers know that The Lair of the White Worm is one of my favorite horror flicks. It's an underrated, bizarro gem, so discovering that there was a vintage die-cut horror prism sticker for the wickedly entertaining Lady Sylvia Marsh was a genuine treat. I love how they used the prismatic material to highlight her headdress.
It'd be insane if there wasn't at least one horror prism sticker giving props to George A. Romero. Thankfully, not only is there one for Day of the Dead, but it's easily one of the most vibrant ones they ever made. What a beauty you are, Bub!
Last but not least, the ghost with the most has a very own horror vending sticker of his own! I love this pose. It's as if good ol' Beetlejuice wants to invite you for a lovely evening in his model grave... just as long as you're okay with marrying him.
Now you've seen some of my favorite vintage horror prism stickers. I'll be sure to share some more from my collection whenever I have a chance. How about you? Do you have any favorites? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
