The 2012 Hollywood Christmas Parade!
by: -RoG-

...CONTINUED

Back to more people on horses and I'm already missing the pop culture cars.

Alright, I'm definitely missing the pop culture cars now.

Indiana Jones then appeared and used his whip a bit to please the crowd.

Turns out he was just plugging an archaeology exhibition. No time for love, Dr. Jones.

The cast of "The Bold and the Beautiful". Yep.

A random shot of the loooong line of people on Hollywood Blvd. watching the Christmas parade.

A fine South Korea Christmas parade performance, but I was more impressed when I went there for the holidays last year.

More horns and flags, but you gotta love those outfits.

The next float was a big Kermit the Frog wearing a Santa Claus hat.

It's not easy being green... especially when you're filled with air and trying to maneuver past palm trees that can pop you.

The cast of Supah Ninjas.

Sorry kids, Hoops & Yo Yo refuse to face the same way, so you'll only get to really see one of them.

Like sands through the hourglass, the cast of "Days Of Our Lives" drove on by.

Okay.

So this Safari Park truck had a real cheetah in the back, and you can see its head peeking up there,
but it wasn't cooperating. A cheetah that didn't want to be in a Christmas parade? Color me shocked.

And just who is that riding in the coach? Well, there's a reason his sweater is green...

It's good ol' Lou Ferrigno (aka: The Hulk).

Berlin. Nagoya. Lusaka. Gesundheit.

Susan Sullivan.

More flag twirling, but a few of them were twirling candy canes too.

Let's hope Horton doesn't hear an air leak in his float.

Windell Middlebrooks drivin' on by.

And here's Archibald Mouse.

More Disney channel people I know nothing about and prefer to keep it that way.

And here come some Fifes & Drums.

The fifed the hell outta those fifes.

While Smokey the Bear was in this parade, another forest burned down. Hope you're happy, Hollywood.

The Lorax!

I'm sure this is supposed to be ironic since he's traveling through Hollywood where there are only a few trees to be seen.

Jerry Mathers (aka: "The Beaver") rides in a classic car along with a stuffed Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Aye! Those be bagpipers!

Who cares about the celebs when you have Snoopy and the Peanuts in the same carriage.

Looks like Charlie Brown finally got a better tree.

Then off in the distance a familiar holiday sight began to emerge.

Yes indeed, it was the Grinch!

And he was stealing Christmas once again, tree and all.

You know what? He can take it for now.
We've still got almost a month before Christmas gets here and I'm sure he'll have a change of heart before then.

And that was the last photo I snapped at the 2012 Hollywood Christmas Parade. The parade continued on, but I had other plans that night and expected the parade to be over much earlier. So yeah, you don't get to see Santa Claus, but we've all seen him before. Ending with the Grinch is just as good as Santa, if not better. All in all, despite the hour-long delay to get it started, the parade was better than I expected, and I attribute 90% of that to all the pop culture cars that drove by. The other 10% goes to seeing a giant NASA astronaut being chased by the Moon. So yeah, I actually survived a holiday parade in Hollywood. I guess Christmas miracles really can happen after all!

Great job as always, Rog. I'm not a huge fan of parades either, but I would have loved seeing all those pop culture cars in one place. Sadly I would have missed them if I'd been there, after being arrested trying to step over so many people to steal that minijet.

Nice to see one of these things outside of cheesy holiday movies for once. The only float parade we have over here (as far as I know) is the Viareggio Carnival one.

Rog:

The KITT with the yellow scan bar actually IS KITT's evil twin KARR (Knight's Automated Roving Robot). It was the prototype for KITT that went evil and was featured in a few episodes as well as being the main villian of the Knight Rider video games. Some confusion might come from the fact that in the first appearance he also had a red scan bar (that scanned differently) but in subsequent episodes it was yellow. By the time he appeared in the video games, he was given a two-tone paint job, with his ground-fx painted gun metal gray.

In the first episode it was actually voiced by Peter Cullen... so yeah, Kitt with Optimus Prime's voice! I think Frank Welker went on to do him in later episodes and he was given a more generic bad guy voice.

I'm genuinely suprised you didn't know that!

I hope the parade planners did their due diligence on that Elmo balloon.

I never suspected "The Bold and the Beatiful" were a show that actually exists! I thought Seinfeld made it up for Kramer to obsessively watch...

Great photo series!

HowardC - I watched the show here 'n there in my childhood and always loved KITT, but I was a much bigger fan of Airwolf. I dunno, I guess the kid in me always believed that a high-tech supersonic helicopter was cooler than a high-tech sports car. Sadly, after the show ended, the helicopter was sold and later destroyed in a crash, killing all of its crew members.
