Plot: Trapped in Jason Voorhees' mind, Freddy Krueger begins to weave an elaborate plan to use the Necronomicon to resurrect himself; however, Ash "Evil Dead" Williams stands in his way.

Review: I don't know about everyone else, but I thought Freddy VS Jason wasn't that bad. But I thought it wasn't finished. While I didn't feel like a third party needed to be involved, I did feel like the story needed to continue. And continue it did, with a special appearance by everyone's favorite chainsaw-armed protagonist, Ash Williams.

The story starts out simple enough; Lori and Will, the two sole survivors from Freddy VS Jason, go back to Crystal Lake—which is always a great idea—only to be dispatched by Jason. Meanwhile, Freddy is trapped in Jason's mind, which has to be boring as hell, since Jason is, you know, mindless. However, Freddy manages to learn about the Necronomicon, and what do you know! It's hidden in the Voorhees home! Freddy decides that he wants to use the book to revive himself. However, he's trapped in Jason's head, and there's no one out there easy enough to manipulate to go get---

Waiiiit a sec.

That's right, Freddy uses his powers of persuasion (via an apparition of Jason's mother) to convince Jason to find the book for him, and in return Freddy claims he will use the book to make Jason a "real boy." Jason is easy to dupe, and agrees to go get it - you know, in his wordless, mindless manner.

Meanwhile, Ash has been sent to, guess what, the Crystal Lake branch of S-Mart to help out a group of slacking teenage employees. After hitting on them in his creepy old man manner fails, he gets to work. Nearby, Jason easily slays a group of slutty teenage girls (manipulated by Freddy to do so), and Ash, when he hears the news, takes it as a Deadite attack—this inference then officially throws him into the fray. As the story goes on, Freddy continues to manipulate Jason in his head, from posing as his father and reading the hydrocephalus-afflicted young Jason a book about the Necronomicon, to another scene where Freddy acts as a teacher—and may be more lenient than some of the college professors I know.

The art style and physical appearance of the characters stays true to the roots of each—Freddy is gruesomely detailed, burns and all, to the point that whenever he talks I can hear Robert Englund. He's just as evil as ever, even pulling off an Elm Street-style dream death at one point. Jason is still brutally violent, and the kills he pulls off are drawn in exceptional detail. Ash is the only character I'm not too familiar with, so I can't say whether or not he's completely accurate. The side characters—young teenagers—are as they usually are in Elm Street and Friday films—arrogant and somewhat dumb, save for the classic bewildered heroine/love interest.

The comics are worth the money if you're a die-hard fan of the three films, and if you were somewhat curious about the aftermath of Freddy VS Jason. I have to say I greatly enjoyed the books, and I do recommend them. Also, a sequel series came out, which I haven't gotten the opportunity to read yet.
