Review: This was one of the many characters comics legend Jack Kirby created for DC, along with Kamandi and The New Gods. The series lasted for 8 issues before abruptly ending on a cliffhanger, because by that time, Kirby returned to work for Marvel. Not to be confused with the blue cyborgs from Infinite Crisis, old-school OMAC is full of the insanely awesome ideas you just don't see anymore. To prove my point, the first story is abut suicide-bomber sex robots.
A friend described OMAC as cyberpunk, and the more I think about it, the more I think he's right. There's a bizarre and insane future, a "world that's coming," if you will. Weapons are a taboo, so the Global Peace Agency creates OMAC, kind of like a peace officer. OMAC fights a variety of villains, which include a guy that rented out an entire city for a party and a scientist that plans on stealing the ocean.
Kirby's dialogue for OMAC is some of the most odd text I've ever read. It's not bad, just... weird. Almost every word balloon has an exclamation point in it. Even the comic art seems more hectic compared to his other stuff I've seen. Another interesting thing is OMAC's costume, which is one of the best/worst in comic books depending on your perspective. Take your pick.
Crazy, imaginative and wonderful. Go read it.
