Plot: A collection of thirteen short stories similar to that of "Tales from the Crypt" and "Creepshow".

Review: When I started to get in the spirit of Halloween this year, I asked some of my friends what horror comics I should read. More than one of them suggested volume one of "Nightmare World" and used shows like "Creepshow", "Tales from the Darkside", and "Tales from the Crypt" to describe it. I'd never heard of it (I'm not a huge comic book guy) so I went on Amazon and picked it up. I found out it's a collection of short stories all written by Dirk Manning and originally posted online. And it's indeed a very nice set of stories that makes you feel like you're watching a serial show.

All of the different stories have a nice variety ranging from ninjas, demons, cliche psychopaths, Cthulhu minions, and even the devil himself. And similar to the wrap around story you get in anthology movies, there's a common thread or theme that emerges as you put the thirteen stories from "Nightmare World" together. Each of the comics were done by a different artist and take different artistic styles, all of which I found were high quality and did a good job of reflecting each story.

As I said these stories were originally done online and can be viewed for free at the "Nightmare World" website. However, I would definitely recommend that you pick up the book instead. Not only because I personally think it's a better experience to read a physical book, but you also get a few extras as well. In addition to the story "You Oughta Know" getting a major improvement to it's artwork, there's also an ending story that further ties together what you can glean for yourself over the course of the book.

Overall, it's a fantastic set of stories that I'm quite pleased to have it added to my collection and I recommend you do the same.

Oh, I actually read this online. I thought it was a good series, but the artist seemed like kind of a preachy asshole in more than a few of them. Still, I'd definitely go ahead and recommend it, though I'm not sure I'd go so far as to use the same preexisting fiction for comparisons.

I do like the art from the samples and I like horror anthologies, so I'll give it a look too!
