Review: Back in high school, I wasn't overly impressed with Drowning Pool. Sure, my mom thought "Bodies" was a hilarious song, but I thought it was pretty annoying, and it didn't help that the song was attached to countless crappy movies and TV shows. A few months later, though, the lead singer died, not of drugs like you'd think, but of some heart problem he had. A very un-rock and roll death if you ask me. Anyway, the call went out for a new singer, and when they found one a few years later, they released Desensitized.

I decided to pick up the album because I heard "Step Up" on the radio, and though it was somewhat goofy-sounding in a "Bodies" sort of way, but it had a nice rhythm to it. I was actually surprised to find that the rest of the songs on the album were pretty good, too. It's all metal, mind you, but they mix up faster songs like Step Up with slower, more downcast songs like "Love and War".

The album had a lasting place in my CD player for a long while, and I was looking forward to another. Unfortunately, the leader singer decided that he would be better off singing for a Christian rock band and left the group. I wonder if the rest of the group wished he had cardiomyopathy, too...
