Plot: Wayne's World has always been an underground hit, but when a slick TV producer offers to take the show to the next level, Wayne and Garth must decide whether to stay true to their artistic vision, or sell out to the man. The time for partying is nigh!!!

Review: For the most part, comedies I saw as a kid generally turn out to be pretty lame upon revisiting them a decade or so later. I expected Wayne's World to follow suit, but I was surprised to see that it actually holds up pretty well.

The skit itself had been on SNL for years prior to the movie being released, but even so, the writers managed to come up with enough material to fill 90 minutes without having to continuously rehash the same jokes. The movie begins in the familiar way, with the "Wayne's World" show being filmed in Wayne's mom's basement, and a lot of the recurring jokes from the SNL skit are covered (such as the "extreme closeup" gag). From there, it takes off more similarly-themed antics, pop culture references, and a smattering of fourth wall-breaking moments.

Additionally, there are a number of guest stars worked into the mix. Rob Lowe plays the villain, but you'll see the likes of Ed O'Neil, Alice Cooper, and Robert Patrick playing bit parts, which in itself lends extra humor to their scenes.

Even more surprising than the number of guest starts is the fact that the movie is entertaining. It even managed to do well commercially. On the downside, however, it helped trigger a deluge of crappy movies adapted from even less substantial SNL skits. Nevertheless, it's still nice to have both a funny movie that came from SNL, and a reminder that SNL actually was funny at one point.
