Review: The PS2 game God Hand never really got a fair shake from the media, apart from a series of short articles about games no one is playing, but should. That’s a real shame, but what’s even more of a shame is that this means that hardly anyone got to hear the game’s rockin’ soundtrack.
In terms of theme, the music is all over the place. A lot of the tracks are rock-based, but you’ll find several techno songs, along with a little rave music and just a bit of funk as well. Most surprising, though, is that producer Masafumi Takada made one of the tracks, “Gene’s Rock-A-Bye”, sound more than a little like the theme song from Hawaii Five-0. It seems like a bizarre idea, but it really does work, especially given the game’s emphasis on parody.
The one downside of GOD TRACKS! is that doesn’t actually contain all the songs from the game. A bunch of other songs from the game can only be freely heard if you decide to go through the game and overcome a series of very tricky challenges. Don’t get me wrong; it’s great music. But the game itself: brutal.
