Review: Out of all the racing games on the Nintendo Entertainment System, R.C. Pro-Am was probably my favorite. Not only did it have great replay value, but I really liked the isometric view of it. In this game, you race your remote controlled car against three other ones controlled by the computer on 24 different tracks. During this time, you can collect a variety of upgrades such as "super sticky tires", "turbo acceleration", and "higher top speed". In addition to this, you can get missiles and bombs to temporarily disable the cars of your opponents.

While the sleek graphics and the ability to obliterate the other cars make the game fun enough, there are still some things to stop you in your tracks. First off, there are a variety of road obstacles in the game, and they pop up more often the longer you last. Out of all the obstacles, none are more annoying than the dreaded oil slicks. When you're trying to win a race at high speeds, if you hit these slicks, not only can they slow you down, they can send you spinning off the track and temporarily destroy your car (unless you happened to pick-up a roll-cage which make you invincible for a short amount of time). They become extremely frustrating in those higher levels where you're just trying to finish the race.

Word to the wise, if you lose a race early on, just start your game over because you only get three continues. Save your continues until you make it to the higher levels... you'll need 'em. All you have to do to progress to the next race is not finish dead last, which can be difficult sometimes considering the computer can cheat and move at ridiculous speeds in the later levels. The computers move so fast in the later levels that you'll constantly have to gun down their cars in order to finish the races.

On every level, you'll notice single letters that you can pick up. If you pick up these letters, they eventually spell "NINTENDO". Once you've done this, you get a brand new car. You start off with a pick-up truck, then a sports van, and finally the speedy race car. I know, racing a "van" probably doesn't sound that exciting, but it's a lot of fun.

All in all, it's a great game that holds up well even to this day, and that says a lot since I'm generally not a big fan of the racing genre, so check it out.
