Review: Some twenty five years after the release of the original Thriller album, we have... the same album. Even so, you’d be hard pressed to find a pop music album with as much appeal as Thriller.
The main difference with Thriller 25, apart from new cover art, is the addition of several re-recordings of the tracks with contemporary singers like Kanye West and Fergie. I can’t say that I’m a fan of any of the new artists, but I guess it you need something different to keep this from being just another repackage.
Mediocre remakes aside, the album is still packed with some of Jackson’s most memorable hits. And who could forget the Thriller video? Not the CD’s creators, as you’ll find the video, along with videos for "Beat It" and "Billie Jean", on the included DVD. You’ll even find a little bonus recording track of Vincent Price from Thriller.
Say what you will about his screwy personal life, the man could write some great music. Not so much now, really, but Thriller, that one was something else.
