Review: This old unsung Neo Geo game is all about a hideous gravedigger who lived at the local cemetery away from all the other people in the village. He has discovered that the corpses from his graveyard were stolen and appear to be coming back to life, so now it's up to him to stop them before any of the other people from the nearby village find out. Not sure why he cares about them finding out since he's basically been an outcast his entire life... perhaps they have the ability to fire him.
Nightmare in the Dark goes by the "if you can set it on fire, you can turning into a big flaming ball to hurl at your enemies" school of thought. Our lil' gravedigger may not be the most attractive guy in town, but he sure knows how to set zombies, ghouls and ghosts ablaze. The game also has some nice bosses that are roughly four times as large as anybody else on the screen, so it definitely makes for some nice visuals.
You can never have enough classic horror-themed games as far as I'm concerned, and this one definitely delivers on it with great artwork, a spooky soundtrack, and addictive 2-player gameplay. The only real complaint I have about it is that the game is really short with only a handful of stages including a graveyard, some ruins, a forest, and a creepy old mansion. It just leaves you wanting more once you're done, especially if you play in cooperative mode.
If you like the game "Snow Bros." then you'll have a lot of fun with this game since it's pretty much the same exact thing but with a horror theme and you're forming fireballs instead of snowballs to hurl at your enemies. This game looks way better though, and being the horror fanatic that I am, I'll take it over Snow Bros. any day of the week and I suggest you do the same.
