Plot: Ewan McGregor is an accountant who is lured into the sultry world of a powerful lawyer played Hugh Jackman in this intense drama. And when I say "intense", I'm sure you understand that I mean, "it makes you want to pick up your TV and smash it into a thousand shards because the story is so agonizingly pointless."

Review: Deception is awful. Absolutely awful. This movie recently came out on-demand and figured what the hey, it has Ewan McGregor... it has Hugh Jackman... can't be all bad, right? Wrong, because that's exactly what it was... ALL bad. I'm honestly stunned either of them would even be involved with a movie this bad.

First off, it's about as predictable as they come. From the very start of the movie, you know Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman) is full of shit and setting up Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) to take a fall. And just how does he set him up? By switching cell phones with him. Oh but you see, Wyatt doesn't own just any cell phone. He's a privileged member of "The List" - a secret sex society! It's not even an intriguing secret sex society a la "Eyes Wide Shut" either. No, all members of this society do is make phone anonymous calls to each other and say "Are you free tonight?" If the other person responds positively, they then meet up at a hotel for some adventures in humpland.

At first, Wyatt can't believe he's living this crazy new lifestyle. At first, he sleeps with Natasha Henstridge of "Species" fame, so he's naturally amazed with his good fortune. His next meeting is with a woman old enough to be his mom, but that doesn't stop him from getting in on that action either. But wouldn't you know it... Wyatt actually falls for one of the girls (Michelle Williams) he meets via The List. Say, you don't think she's in cahoots with Jonathan McQuarry do ya? Nahhhhh!!!

So yeah, McQuarry is really just using Wyatt so he can steal 20 million dollars from the big firm he works at. And how is he able to pull this off? They conveniently wash over all of those important details as McQuarry just happens to have all of the account numbers and passwords that Wyatt needs. How did he get those numbers and passwords? Who knows! That's movie magic for you right there folks!

So yeah, all the sex stuff appears to be nothing more than the writer's failed attempt at keeping our interest in an otherwise horribly predictable and unoriginal story. It's truly a cinematic embarrassment for all parties involved. It just goes to show us all once again that even if a movie manages to land some A-list celebrities, that doesn't mean they can turn a liquid shit script into something golden. Avoid this movie at all costs.

Lastly, here's a little suggestion for the marketing people: in the future, don't give away the scam on the friggin' poster for the movie.
