Review: Oingo Boingo had a few albums before Dead Man’s Party, but this album has probably done more for getting the band’s name out than any before or since. Two tracks from the album in two different movies, with one leading to the band performing in the movie and the other being a film’s title song? That’s how you get real name recognition.

Obviously the album includes the track “Dead Man’s Party,” a harrowing story about a man who finds himself enjoying the company of some undead party animals. Also included is Weird Science, the one track that most people will at least admit to hearing about, or at least seeing the movie it was named after. Also included, however, is the less well-known song, No One Lives Forever. In spite of sharing a name with a game about a 60s era parody of James Bond, the song lends itself perfectly to the Halloween season, what with the narrator gleefully admits to dancing “while the Grim Reaper cuts, cuts, cuts.”

Halloween was always a big deal for Oingo Boingo, what with the annual Halloween performances and all. For Dead Man’s Party to be an ideal Halloween album, it would have to include “Dead or Alive”. Even so, it’s a great CD for getting people dancing, especially when you’ve grown sick of the Thriller dance.
