Marvin Gaye. I dislike his actual singing, but there are some great chord transitions in some of his songs.

Yeah. it is kind of a trivial poll thread. I was just going through a momentary Marvin Gaye craze. Anyways, I would definately say Marvin Gaye.

Dole is right, this is a bad comparison, but I would choose Marvin. I'm terribly biased though, because Marvin Gaye is by far one of my all time favorites.

I would say Marvin Gaye is more soulful. He's more spiritual and James Brown is more physical. More sexual and funky.
