I knew an Indian-American kid in high school that I would eat lunch with sometimes. Once he brought some kind of rice dish from home, and I asked if I could try a small taste.

"Sure. It's very mild. You might like it."

I tried it.

As my tongue burst into flame, he said, "See? Very mild."

That day I learned that "mild" is a totally subjective term.
