I live in central Kentucky. Also, I am actually helping the turtle because the kids here have a reputation of killing turtles.

I stand corrected. And your turtle is either the Midland or the Southern painted turtle.

Young eat mostly maggots, earthworms, insect larvae, and beetles; adults eat insects, snails, crayfish, and tadpoles. I suppose you can get the food you need for it at a pet store.

Make sure you wash your hands after you handle it, because they can carry salmonella.
