I've been using an old version of WinDVD (3.1, specifically) to play DVDs on my computer. It's worked just fine for months, but recently, it's begun crashing a second or two after it starts playing a DVD. Even stranger, it will player stuff like the FBI warning with no problem.

I can still play DVDs in other DVD programs, so I know it's not the drive going bad. Anybody know about this stuff?

I had this bug. I went to a software store, and they told me it had something to do with a new registry on DVD's that the older version of Win didn't support. They gave me a CD with a sort of "patch" on it, and mine's worked ever since. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact details.
