Because that's what people want from comedy: something familiar and easy.

There was a quote in Futurama that went something like this: "clever ideas make people feel stupid, and new ideas make people feel scared."

True, but there are shitloads of similar unfunny sitcoms that never amount to nothing, and some similar unfunny sitcoms that last for ages but get a lot smaller ratings than 2 1/2 men.

Ok, that explains it. It's really not advertised that much here compared to other shows on TV, so I thought it might be the same thing in other countries.
