lol, love those style games. It's a shame that they don't really make these anymore, though I suppose their modern successors would be flash games...

HHH is an amazing game. HHH2 and HHH3 are just as fun. In HHH2 you get to play as Penelope. Watch out for the stupid robot though.

It is always nice to see articles about old games like these. They sure don't make them like they used to. :')

Fun. I never could make text command games work for me. I guess I just lacked the imagination...or something.

That mummy was the bane of my existence. Spending hours re-searching through the house for some missing item to give to it, trying everything I could think of to either scare or burn the thing with candle.
Even after me and my friends figured out the way around it, I still refused to believe that's how you were supposed to get past the thing. I mean after an entire game where you had to use your brain, they wouldn't make a single area where you had to rely on skill and luck would they? Would they?!

I always thought Igor and the red guy were brothers. I do believe that you have now given me nightmares.

Oh my gosh, how many hours did me and my kid sister waste trying to see who could get through this game fastest? To this day I remember not telling her the answer to the first trivia question and how mad she got at me!

Thanks RoG, that was a great walk down memory lane!

Oh yeah, I still have the old text parser-only DOS version. In that one, the old man's final question is whether or not you registered your shareware. So yes: he's actively encouraging the player to lie.

Oh, and heads-up, Rog: Hugo 2 is much more frustrating than parts 1 and 3.

While I did enjoy this classic adventure, along with many of it's genre, I always found it interesting that after Wolfenstien 3D came out many "re-imaginings" of games were created in a simular manner.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitemare_3D

While is was for the most part a FPS, there were a few good riddles and puzzles you needed to solve so you could continue in the game.

Oh my god thank you! I have this really fond memory of back in 2nd grade on halloween my computer teacher had a special day where she played through this game and the whole class got to watch. I never knew the name of the game, and always have remember it around this time of year, I was actually just thinking about it the other day.

How many lives were saved by Rubber Bungs?

We may never know, but the number has to be in the 3 to 5 hundred thousand range.

Rubber Bungs. Our unsung heroes in the realm of survival.

Also, because I forgot to mention it earlier - you win for life for mentioning UHF & Day Of The Tentacle. Any chance you'll be doing a write-up on either of those in the future? :D

I'm sure I'll do some kind of article on UHF in the future as it's one of my favorite movies. Stanley Spadowski, Conan the Librarian, Wheel of Fish... what's not to love? And yeah, there's always a possibility for a DOTT review in the future as well.

But back on track, it's really nice to see that so many people remember Hugo's House of Horrors. Any game with Green Igor and Rubber Bungs is mandatory for all I-Mockery readers to play. I'm sure I'll play through the sequels eventually and will review them as well. Dr. Boogie is also planning on reviewing the 3D sequel that plays like a DOOM clone of sorts (the one that Lothalis mentioned above), so keep an eye out for that one.

*sniff* the memories of this game bring tears to my eyes (both joyful and bitter tears)
This was the very first computer game I ever played (not to be confused with video game; that was Mario Bros. in the arcade)
I swear, that mummy is responsible for partial hair loss on my part! (Well, not really, but that sums up my frustration)
Also, one more thing:
ALL HAIL THE RUBBER BUNG!
