Old Feb 10th, 2004, 10:37 PM        The adventures of NES and the spontaneous reset.
Does anyone remember how fragile the original NES was? How the slightest tap would cause the machine to reset, always when you had been playing all night and hadn't saved for hours? The closest I ever was to murdering anyone was the time when I was a kid playing dragon warrior and my younger brother came into the room and accidently kicked the Nintendo, causing it to continually reset. Of course, I was in the middle of a dungeon and hadn't saved for a very long time. I went into a rage and beat my brother senseless, a beating that, looking back, he probably didn't deserve. Even to this day, the Nintendo ranks as the touchiest system I have ever used. The amount of work I must do to get mine to work these days is unbelieveable, from cleaning everthing with rubbing alcohol, to sacrificing goats to the gods of electronics.

After the original N.E.S. I'd say the playstation 2 and its constant "eye off-alignment " as the next most fragile system.
The original G.B. was more equiped to take a beating :/

The vertical NES was much more resistant to these problems. I never owned one however.

You can pay to have your NES refitted with a cartridge loader that's stable like on the game genie or the top-loading NESs. Don't ask me where though.

whatever the nintendow as probaly like one of the most durable systems. those reset problems only came after years of use and abuse

do you think any system would enjoy being kicked? douchebag.

I had a Sega Genesis with a power button that wouldn't stay down. I soon had to stick a folded plastic Tylenol pill holder in there to keep the power button down.

But before I did that I had countless reasons to kill myself every time I was on the last level of Sonic 2 or something the power button would pop up.

Heya shithead. There's a really easy way to make the blinking stop. Purchase a new 72-pin connector on ebay. You'll spend $10 and solve the problem. Or you could spend an additional $75 and purchase the elusive Nintendo Toploader.

P.S. Your story sucked.

Shithead? I will forgive this insult McClain because I see you come from California. If I lived in that shithole of a state, I would be cranky too. Thank you for your advice, by the way.

Minnesota is boring as hell. California is certainly not boring, but it is also the closest thing to hell that we have on the planet Earth. It's an overcrowded and souless wasteland not fit for human life, or any other life for that matter.

Wanna know how stupid I was as a child?

When I got an original Game Boy with Tetris for Christmas, I was happy. I showed my sister and when the Teris copyright info came on, my sister said, "Hey, it has Bullet Proof Software on it! So is the Game Boy bulletproof?" "I don't know," I said. Then, out of curiosity, I smacked the Game Boy on my head really hard, and it still worked. "I guess it is!" I said.

The Genesis was the touchiest system. The slightest touch would freeze the game up.

Atleast you could use the NES for a coaster or a magazine holder.

Anyone who lives in Minneapolis and thinks it's boring needs to get into the music scene. And if you're not into music you need to leave.

If I lived in Minneapolis maybe I'd like MN better but I don't and barely get to go down there and when I do it is for a concert. Sadly the last one was that Quincy Punx show. Duluth is closer and easier to get to.

I just find after living in this state my whole life I want to get out. There has to be something better. The up north people are so annoying.

I still own one of these picky sons of bitches. I've given up on it, as I've had days where I could shoot the damn thing and the game would improve, and days where if I farted the thing would go into a seizure. It's now collecting dust with the Commodore 64 - which, ironically, still works properly.

Why dopes everyone think the toploading NES is so rare? There were tons made. At my local video game store it costs ten bucks for the top-loading one, and 50 for the traditional model. Have any of you actually gone out and looked for one?

Or you could get a emulator and save yourself the time, space, and et cetera. Can someone tell me why Nintendo just doesn't give up, and start slapping their games onto discs and throwing them to the PC market? Now that people would buy.
