I-Mockery Pays A Visit To The 2014 Game Developers Conference! GDC!
by: -Roger Barr

...CONTINUED

Heading down towards my favorite part of GDC: The Videogame History Museum.

A nice Nintendo Entertainment System demo unit that allows you to choose from 12 different games.

The 1990 Nintendo World Championships gold cartridge! After holding this, I may never wash my hands again.

Nintendo Game Boy and Virtual Boy demo kiosks.

Always nice to see the TurboGrafx-16 getting some love.

Say what you will about the SNES, but the Sega Genesis will always be my favorite console from the 16-bit era.

Some woman was playing E.T. for the first time and when I asked her about it, she didn't know anything about its notorious history. So I just sat back and had fun watching her try to figure out how to escape from one of those damned pits.

These three games were actually presented as evidence in the 1985 Nintendo v. Magnavox court case.

EarthBound (1995) in its original big box. Always a must-have on the list of any serious SNES game collector.

The Nintendo Demo Vision.
These units allowed retailers to showcase games being played on Game Boy systems to be displayed on TV screens.

The Twin Famicom by Sharp.

And another one, along with the Tri-Star 8-bit adapter (also known as the "Super 8").

The 1982 Donkey Kong board game by Milton Bradley.

The 1988 Legend of Zelda board game by Milton Bradley.

Classic Nintendo buttons and patches. Brush with Super Mario!

If there's one video game display I would kill to own, it would have to be this original
Nintendo Entertainment System Deluxe Set display, complete with a huge R.O.B. head atop it.
So awesome.

I remember seeing this exact display at Toys 'R' Us when I was a kid and drooling over it.

R.O.B. stands tall and proud.

Always wanted one of these gold Famicom "Punch-Out!!" cartridges.
Interesting that this version was before the Mike Tyson one was released, so he didn't appear in it.

Donkey Kong Stick-Ons and arcade figures.

Let everybody know you intend to rescue Princess Blobette with this nifty bumper sticker.

The original Nintendo Fun Club newsletter really brings me back. Wish I still had my copy.

The gold 1990 Nintendo World Champsions cart and a sealed copy of Stadium Events.
So which do you prefer to own... both of these or a house? The cost is pretty much the same.

Nintendo Entertainment System test cartridges along with some amazing
World of Nintendo displays that retailers could purchase for all their NES merchandise.

A SNES World Class Server test cartridge.

Some vintage Nintendo Power issues and Nintendo Fun Club newsletters.

Super Mario Bros. Princess Bubble Bath. Donkey Kong approves.

A pair of Super Mario "Lemonado" and Cola cans.

The Famicom 3D System. I think I'll stick with the Sega Master System SegaScope 3D glasses.

A NES Test Station unit.

Now this was really cool. RetroZone set up a demo cartridge that automatically had R.O.B. moving around his gyroscopes.

There's the custom cartridge they made for it.

And here's the nice Nintendo tribute screen it displays.

R.O.B. awaits another optical flash to command him to make his next move. So glad people could see R.O.B. in action.

There's always a nice handful of classic arcade cabinets at the Videogame History Museum set to free play for all to enjoy.

I even managed to get the high score on Asteroids before I left. Keen!
I think we can all agree that they should've given me a copy of Stadium Events as a prize for doing so, right?

These huge Killer Queens cabinets could give the 6-player X-Men arcade cabinet a run for its money.

Next to the Videogame History Museum was iam8bit's "You've Got Game Show!" area.
It was a great classic game show setup, and I gotta give 'em credit... they had some hard questions for the contestants.

Yep, I saw a few shows where the scores remained 0 for the most part.

Apparently Batman now has to stop the Joker from pulling a heist in Vegas.

A Centipede-themed slot machine. I'll stick with the original arcade game.

Bonus Look - one of the many unique games on display in GDC's "ALT.CTRL" alternative controller exhibit.

And here's the other side of Bonus Look.
One person (the pilot) has the screen and arrow keys, the other person (the wizard) has the rest of the keys.

ROFLPILLAR had two people lying on their backs in caterpillar-like sleeping bags while their faces were inside a tent.
These two just wiggled around, laughing hysterically while everybody just stared, wondering what the hell was going on.

Choosatron - deluxe adventure matrix.

Now here's a briefcase I can appreciate. Somebody finally knows how to conduct business properly.

Apparently the object was to unlock it by pressing the correct buttons to claim your candy prize.

Pandora had a nifty little booth setup where they took some quick photos of you and sent you an animated .GIF of it.
I approve.

It should come as no surprise that slot machine developers are trying to cash in on the zombie craze.

I'm not even into gambling, but this Beetlejuice slot machine was a work of art.

It even has Harry the Haunted Hunter on the screen. Awesome.

Alright, that about does it for my coverage of the 2014 Game Developers Conference. Hope you enjoyed all the photos, and if any of the new games looked interesting to you, be sure to look them up online to show the developers your support. Hope to see you again next year, GDC!

The omni thing is kind of neat, but is strafing possible with it? If special shoe technology was this advanced in the 80s/early 90s they'ed be called POWER shoes.

Ducttapefury - Yeah, from what I saw, strafing would definitely be possible with it. And they should absolutely call them Power Shoes.
