Finished season 5 of Dexter. I thought this season started off alright, at least it side-stepped most of what I hated about the last two seasons, but the show still suffers from a fundamental flaw, it's writers are fucking pussies and they're horrible teases too. Nothing of consequence ever happens no matter what the episode preview says and the show, no matter what toothless plot twist they have to use, always returns to the status quo.
Debra almost catches Dexter red-handed but instead of giving us something significant to chew on for once she delivers a pretty little speech. I'm sick of this show dicking me around like this. Lumen didn't have to leave but status quo demanded it. It's like a bad comic book resetting itself over and over.
I predict next season Debra finds out about Dexter's work, is upset but then get over it and everything turns out okay. Fuck season 6 I'm done watching this garbage.

Yeah, Dexter isn't even worth watching anymore, but people who never seemed to watch it before love it. It's weird. I read a comment that basically said Dexter is a great show if you've been watching Law and Order and this is your first drama series that's not on one of the big networks.
Of course, it's pretty much total shit if you've been watching the Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, the Wire, Breaking Bad, or anything else, really. I mean, holy shit that was a weak finale.

I've grown recently fond of watching Jeopardy again. There was a recent topic of "Defenestration in Cinema" and hearing Trabek do nAxel Foley impression "You guys are arresting me for getting thrown out of a window???"
Amazing.
Dimnos
Dec 14th, 2010, 01:10 PM
Yeah the Dexter finale was crap. They didnt even take out Chase in an elaborate way. :\ Deb should have caught Dexter. In fact half way through her speech he should have just started talking. She get floored by the revelation and the season ends there. With us not knowing if she still calls the cops or not. Lumen should have died to stuck around. This pussy shit of "oh my troubles are resolved and Im going to move on to a happy life now." was crap. :\ Ill probably still watch next season because Im a sucker for the idea that it might get good again. Although this season was good right up to the last two episodes I thought.
Mad Melvin
Dec 14th, 2010, 06:56 PM
I thought the whole season was kinda crappy. Few good episodes here and there, but the main plot was just an uninteresting mess and that Lumen chick was just blah. The finale also sucked shit from a cup. With two girls, no less. There was no reason for Deb to NOT look at the killers and that whole bloodtest shenanigan was just plain tacky. So, what, Quinn and Dex are friends now? Fuck that. And what the hell was with the first episode, where Dexter just bashes the shit out of some redneck and it's never mentioned again? Third and fifth season are the worst this show has had to offer. THE WORST.:x
I'm guessing that Quinn will be the enemy in the next season. He'll turn into a killer or some shit so Dexter has an excuse to waste him.

Speaking of BBC, I've been DVR'ing all of BBC America's Christmas programming and watching that.
I used to really like Dawn French and I loved the early seasons of Vicar of Dibley, but I dunno, something with where it picked up with that "Marriage" special sort of became annoying. The character became annoying, I mean.
Tonight I watch Gordon Ramsay cook stuff. I know I've got some Graham Norton in there too. Loved him ever since Father Ted.

Doctor Who Christmas fucking owned. I would have liked it enough on its own, but I took the liberty of watching all the previous (horrible) Christmas episodes the other night, and they completely lowered my standards for television, fiction, and everything in general, allowing for suitable entertainment from Steven Moffat, a man who, unlike Russel T. Davies, has not attempted to perform a lobotomy on himself. Several lobotomies, actually, many of which were completely successful.
Also the entire special almost looks like complete shit next to the season 6 trailer right after it. Nazis! MIBs! Horrifying doll children! The Ood are back! Neil Gaiman writes an episode! IN AMERICA!
I wept blood, basically.

Just wrapped up season 5 of Oz....time for the home stretch.
I realized today, as I was watching one of the episodes over again to listen to the director and actor commentary, that Oz has made me completely immune to any reaction to seeing men's junk. There is so much swinging-dick in that show that it just starts to become part of the background.
Back in the first season I was like "Gah!" when there would be unexpected dick or manass or prison rape or whatever. Now I'm like "meh".

Season 3 is when the dark times really get into a good rhythm. "The Runaway Bride" is the absolute worst episode of anything I've ever seen, and "Journey's End" almost gave me brain damage. It's bad.
I can only properly appreciate the classic episodes when I'm stoned as hell, and it's fair to say that yeah, they're slow and padded more often than they could be. The Caves of Androzani is probably the best episode ever, at least give that one a shot.

I don't care HOW many times I have to read the same cookie-cutter BSG internet opinions, but it just bugs me how much shit Season 3 gets when it really wasn't even half as bad as everyone says it is. The finale was incredible, JERKS >:
And the whole [SPOLERS]cylons coming to terms with the fact that they're cylons[/SOPIELRS] angle of Season 4's first half was interesting as hell.

I loved the third season finale. I did not love the fourth season finale. Besides the president dying, which was sad, I thought it sucked. Starbuck turning out to have been a ghost the whole time was fucking stupid. I thought the religious elements in the series were created to make characters seem more real but I guess the writers where just covering their asses for later when they would literally pull a deus ex machina out of there.

The difference between Andy and Pram though is Pram is an internet annoyance, Andy has a son around my age and that makes it all the sadder because his son has to suffer from the embarrassment of constantly reading about his dad waving his penis at people at his shows all because he's a horrible drunk. May 20th, 2011, 06:43 AM
Speaking of Dr. Who, I was horrified to see Catherine Tate on The Office last night. The reasons are complex.
I really, really, really like Catherine Tate. I went to see Gulliver's Travels just because Catherine Tate had a small role in it. I have all of the Catherine Tate Show DVDs and even the Christmas specials. I watched the David Tennant Dr. Who, even.
The character she's playing on The Office, as Steve Carrell's potential replacement, is annoying as all hell. I have a very high threshold for Catherine Tate exposure (see above) and I was wanting to change the channel after about 30 seconds of it. Now I see all of these "Catherine Tate might replace Steve Carrell!" stories and all I can see is a truncated season of having to deal with that character. I don't know how most Americans react to her, but I'm thinking maybe a lot of people are not going to find that character funny.

Well, I'll start out in very general terms. Dexter has his stalking rituals, and he uses police department resources to get info on his potential victims. Time and time again, they show him looking up addresses, license numbers, etc. They also show him using google maps-alike (Hollywood OS) to determine good places to ambush his prey. At work.
You'd think that after the whole "Bay Harbor Butcher" thing at the very LEAST, that he might be concerned about his access being monitored. Every one of his victims could seemingly be found in his searches.
And one thing that really bothered me last season was the internal investigations officer who kept following Deb around. I didn't know that cooperation was optional with that stuff. I thought that if you refused to cooperate, that kind of put you in the crosshairs yourself.
Other than that, it was just a ton of little stuff, from body-hiding to people who seemed to have fatal dumbass lack of observation flaws, to things that seemed to have a remarkable lack of consequences.

My Direct TV dropped that stupid channel just before the American Ver 2 was aired. Ninja warrior was the only reason I watched that channel. I even forget it's stupid name. The one that was all about computers and then they turned all about the lols.

I watched Web Soup on G4 last week. I don't think the show knows that it isn't funny.

Really wanted to enjoy Jon Benjamin has a van. Did not enjoy it at all. Only laughed once, and halfheartedly.
What I really want is a McGuirk spinoff. Sometimes I pretend that it's McGuirk's Burgers instead of Bob's.

I could listen to him talk all day. I forgot to watch the show last night, but I saw promos constantly and hearing McGuirk's voice come out of a real dude is captivating

It's weirder when they show him up close. He almost looks like Paul Giamatti, but with different eyes.
I could also listen to him talk all day. But the show...bleh. It was too "done". It was like the Tim and Eric Awesome Show gets when they're trying too hard and stops being funny and just starts being kind of uncomfortable.
I love that the back of the van is painted like his ass, though.

Just watch archer.
He's also in the movie "the ten" which might be the funniest movie ever made.

I started watching workaholics on comedy central. Its kind of funny but not brilliant or anything. Definitely watchable.
Some episode last night had two of the guys arrive home both wearing fedoras and they get mad at each other due to the "One Fedora per crew" rule.
The one guy is like "Yeah right. You give up yours. I look totally sweet in mine. I'm ska right now. I'm pretty much in Reel Big Fish."
Which to me hits a personal point. I would definitely wear a fedora except for everyone else that already wears one irritates the heck out of me. Once they go out of style I'm going to get one.

I have a two week vacation and was thinking of watching something I haven't seen before. I hear good things about Justified. Maybe I should start with that. On the other hand, this would be a good time to watch Twin Peaks.

Currently streaming Married with Children. They replaced the theme song with generic sound-alike music to avoid paying for the song :\

Blasphemy.
Married With Children embodied that ugly late 80s-early 90s time so well, too.
I'm wrapping up the fourth season of Dexter, over halfway now. Finished the first book, too, which I hated. I hate the way it's written. I never imagined that the characters on an inspired-by cable show would have more depth than they did in the book they came from. God, I hated that book. Couldn't wait to finish it, to get it over with. Mad at myself for buying the first two at once...now I'll have to read that one, too.

I love sound-alikes when it's parody but with a show like Married With Children they should just pay the rights again, I think they can still use it on re-runs. There original contract probably didn't include home video as an option which is also why The State was butchered.
