So the simpsons are renewed for another 2 years making it 25 years total and then they'll probably quit doing it. God won't they just kill that thing. It was close talks though. It's gotten to where fox is losing money on it. But they'll probably make more in syndication of the new episodes anyways.

Season 2 of An Idiot Abroad is going on. I just watched the first episode of the new season and it's pretty entertaining. Karl Pilkington hates doing things just like I would hate doing them. He's forced to do them, but is stupid and has funny takes on things. I enjoy watching him be uncomfortable and say retarded things. It's a good show.

Krythor
Oct 8th, 2011, 01:10 PM
I'm not a big fan of Karl when he's out by himself, I only find him funny when he's with Ricky and Steve. But I loved his argument with Warwick "Wicket" Davies about the Chinese dwarf village. "They have a king. He's got a little crown and everything."

Rongi

I haven't seen the latest episode of Breaking Bad yet, but I have to say season 4 has been a disappointment for the most part. There wasn't nearly enough Saul for my liking, and I feel like a lot of episodes where just a bunch of boring conversations.

Krythor
Oct 8th, 2011, 02:05 PM
It's had ups and downs, I think it will probably be better on DVD viewed back to back. The main thing that bothers me is that it's not that funny anymore; I've been rewatching seasons one and two and I can't believe how much I laugh every episode.

The Gus thing is played out at this point, so I look forward to season five when everything should move in a new direction.

k0k0
Oct 8th, 2011, 02:31 PM
I like how when karl calls warwick it seems like he's trying to sell him on moving down there, like if his acting thing doesn't work out. Then it goes from that, to him defending the dwarf village.

And breaking bad was good this season. It's been tough to call really until I can see how they wrap it up. I thought there'd be more happening with the car wash, but that's been minimal for how much they put into it.

Krythor
Oct 8th, 2011, 02:39 PM
Yeah, it has such a different tone this season that it's hard to judge until it's all viewed again, knowing how it's all meant to fit together.

The main reason it's not that funny is because Walt and Jesse haven't been together that much I think.

Rongi
Oct 8th, 2011, 02:47 PM
Yeah, this season has been kind of monotone in terms of mood. It's mainly been anticipation and build up. It was funny when Walt used that guy's first dollar to buy a coke. And when Mike's ear gets partly blown off.

The sideplot with Hank and Marie's marriage becoming rocky was abandoned pretty quickly

Yeah, I'm that way about a lot of stuff.

When Dexter's good, it's really good, and when it's bad it's really bad. But it's sort of like Oz was, even though there were some annoying-as-shit characters and it doesn't quite function the way reality really would in places, you still feel compelled to see it out. Or at least I do.

I thought that John Lithgow was supremely creepy as a badguy. These badguys I'm just not too stirred by. I guess I should just be grateful that miss sunburn and the annoying British chick are out of the picture.

I have fallen out of South Park a long while ago and I just watched the funnybot episode today.

Good lord that was fucking terrible. The only thing I found remotely funny was the Germans introducing the funny bot after a huge montage of diligent German labor and said robot only spouting out elementary school humor. The people smiling while dead was a nice touch.

This season was brilliant, I feel like the first season was a lot more "tv friendly" and this season is closer to what it was meant to be. The stand-up portions are getting significantly less funny; at least in comparison to his actual stand-up, and I think it is on purpose, as Louis CK is trying to build up this loser mentality on his show, and it works brilliantly. I just can't get enough of this season, every episode was better than the last.

I also just watched the latest episode of breaking bad and it was nice and tranquil. I really enjoyed it.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but MTV and MTV2 are bad about listing one thing on the program schedule and then playing something completely different in that time slot. i'm not. The gore and make-up are pretty damn cool, but the drama itself is lame beyond belief. It's just a soap opera with zombies. I hate all of the female characters, 'cause they do nothing but bitch and whine, and I have no opinion about the male characters 'cause every one of them is as bland as budweiser.

They didn't actually show him dead, so maybe Dexter was lying to the shooter to see how he would react.

Also, I read an intresting theory about the new season. It really sucks if it turns out to be true:

The old killer isn't real. He's been dead for a while and he lives only in Colin Hanks's head. Proof: The old guy hasn't interacted with anyone else than Hanks through the whole season. WHAT A TWIST! A bit too M Night Shamalama for my taste.

Four more episodes left. This season is a lot like the last one for me. My feelings can be summed up with a meh. I don't hate it like 3 and 4 but then, 8 episodes in, I don't feel like anything has happened either. At least nothing significant.

I'm getting a vibe though that they're planning to kill Debra off. Or at least they're setting it up for her to get kidnapped again. It might come to nothing but it'd be interesting if she died. When Rita died, surprising or not, you can see the mercenary reasons for it. As a character Rita had to go. There's no obvious reason to write Deb out. Not that I want Deb to die, I just want something to actually happen on this god damned show.

Kitsa
Nov 22nd, 2011, 03:24 PM
I don't know. I'm sort of tired of Deb always being the damsel in distress. I guess they have to move the plot along, but it seems really unlikely that all of these serial killers seem to 1) find their way to Miami and 2) seem oddly compelled to interact personally with members of the Miami police department.

There doesn't seem to be any middle ground in likability of Dexter characters. Either they're likeable, or they seem to have no purpose there as a character whatsoever. The badguys (extending that to LaGuerta and Quinn) are sort of muddy in their intentions. For some reason, every time Quinn does the drunk thing now I find it really irritating.

I liked how MosDef was sort of a red herring-ish character. He was one of the few this season who didn't seem sort of halfassed.

When Deb yells, one eye gets really small.

How is Boardwalk Empire? I watched the first four episodes of season one ages ago but the person I was watching them with kept being unavailable and then we just forgot about it. I've been told that season one is quite slow throughout. How does the new season compare? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.

Mad Melvin
Nov 29th, 2011, 03:56 PM
Well, it's arguably the best series on television right now. The first season wasn't slow at all and it's full of fleshed out and intresting characters. The second season is just as good as the first one so far. It's one of those series that has the potential to be a masterpiece, right up there with The Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome and The Wire. A bit too soon to tell for sure, but the signs are all there.

The books are great, too bad like Milhouse said they probably wont be finished.

I didn't really like the TV adaption. A lot of things just didn't fit what was in my head. In the book Tyrion isn't just a dwarf, he's an incredible ugly dwarf. It's an important aspect of his character, and yet here they have the handsomest dwarf that ever lived and breathed playing his role.

Also they sidestepped the part where Tyrion goes into battle. I was really interested in how they were going to manage this but I guess they couldn't figure out the logistics of a three foot man going to war.

I think we should have made a thread a while ago called LET'S COMPLAIN ABOUT DEXTER. Or maybe LET ME COMPLAIN ABOUT DEXTER, depending who you ask.

I really don't know. It's the same thing I experienced with Oz (and, hell, half the same cast), this knowledge that it's just getting sloppier and sloppier as time goes on but the desire to see it through to the end. In the first few seasons, Dexter had almost supernatural intelligence and physical capability. Now he makes more and more un-Dexter-like decisions, more silly slip-ups, and seems flat-out dumber.

Maybe that's the whole "becoming more human" thing, or some sort of indicator of the internal conflict in progress, idk really but it seems like the strength of the character is in steady decline.

I'm also getting irritated with the frequency of last-minute saves. It's got me wondering if next week Deb will be trussed up on a train track with some rent collector standing over her and twisting his moustache.

How many more episodes left? One? Two? It's felt like it needed to wrap up for a while now.

Mad Melvin
Dec 13th, 2011, 08:13 AM
One more episode to go. This season has been fucking horrible. Just flatout lazy writing and sub-plots that don't seem to amount to nothing, like Dexter breaking his trophies by accident, and it's never mentioned again or the idiotic episode where Dexter becomes evil and then the show presses reset at the end. The main villain is boring as all hell and what's with the borderline incest twist they threw in the last episode?

Maybe the shittiest season since season 3. Or 5. Can't decide which one is the worst.

Dimnos

Kitsa
Dec 13th, 2011, 03:00 PM
I never remember season numbers. I hated the british chick season and I hated the lumen season. I think Deb's the only female character on Dexter I like.

I was confused about the sudden disappearance of the Irish nanny from last season. I loved her from other stuff she was in (Father Ted, first and foremost). She just sort of was swapped out with Angel's sister (had we ever heard of her before?) with no explanation whatsoever.

I don't know if they went the incest route because the two were married in real life, or not. It would be double weird to be an actor simultaneously making out with your "sibling" and your ex.

Also, I am good and ready for LaGuerta to get the fuck out of Dodge. That's one of the few ways the book series was better...got rid of her right away.

How great would it have been to get Tom Hanks to play Professor Gellar? I think he could do really good creepy if he tried, sort of like Robin Williams.

I didn't understand the whole Carradine guy thing. I thought David Carradine talked that way because of badly fitting dentures, but his brother talked like that too.

American Horror Story

Watched the whole first season. It was a bit like Lost, as in you couldn't stop watching it because you just had to know what happened next. Oh, and the ending sucked as well, but not quite as hard as in Lost.

The first three or four episodes were outstanding. Very eerie and disturbing with a touch of David Lynch. The viewer is kept in the dark and can't be sure whats real and whats not. Then the mystery starts to unravel, and it's all kinda dumb with a fair share of plot holes. There are some good twists thrown in there, though. I'm still glad I watched this, 'cause there is some genuinely disturbing shit in here, which you don't see so much in television series. Plus, the opening sequence is amazing.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, American Horror Story is an anthology based series. Season 2 will have nothing to do with season 1. It will tell a different story with different actors.

Southland looked lame to me and then I saw that crossed eye bitch Lucy Lu in a commercial and knew I'd never watch it.

D? Honestly, I think he's my favorite character from season one. His whole arc is probably the saddest of the first few seasons, for me.

Same. he was definitely one of my favorite characters, although i thought he was going to be around a lot more.
but yea I saw him on southland as a cop and it basically made me want to watch the show

Season 2 was also better for me the second time around because I was already familiar with Ziggy and I didn't get as annoyed with him. I could actually sympathize because you can follow his gradual descent into completely snapping.

Man, fucking Ziggy. I agree that upon second viewing, you can actually start to see where he's coming from. I've met people with similar personality traits, but obviously not to those extremes. Poor, dumb bastard. I sympathized with Frank this time around, too.

I'm into the Hamsterdam stuff now.

I have a really hard time deciding which season of The Wire is the best one. After first viewing I would have propably picked season 4 over the others, but after seeing the whole series a few times, I dunno. The only cons (rimshot) I can think of are the first half of season 1, which is kinda slow and the whole serial killer plotline of season 5. Seasons 2-4 are awesome all the way.

Now that I read what I just wrote, I realized there was no point to any of that. The Wire is the best television series that has ever been, so I had to say something.

I'd say that season 5 is the weakest, for sure. It's got some good parts, but it's just not as strong as the other ones.

Is The Walking Dead any good? I have the feeling it's Lost with zombies in it, i wonder if it keeps the comic book/romero vibe

the walking dead is hit and miss

the first season had about 2 good episodes w/ some good bits here and there
the first half of the 2nd season was a whole lot of nothing w/ only good bits at the last few minutes per episode
the 2nd half of the season really picked things up

I got pissed off watching the 1st season because it started turning into a love triangle soap opera. Then I looked at the comic and it was just as stupid.

I think in both they realized it was lame and dropped it. However, In the show Shane is still alive and I'm sure the subject will arise again to cause tension between he and Rick.

In the books though the subject is as dead as Shane, Ricks wife, and the baby. :lol

The whole second season of Walking Dead has been retarded. I hate Rick and all the women with passion. Why does Rick have to say every line like it's the most important thing anyone has ever said, punctuating almost every word and half-whispering to appear deep and tormented? Why are the characters so goddamn stupid and blind? Why do the zombies have magical teleportation powers? Why the hell do I keep watching this? Must be the gore, which is the only saving grace left in this pile of meh.

While we are talking about shitty shows, has anyone seen that alien one that's in the second season? Oh yeah I remember the name, Falling Skies. I had high hopes that it was watchable, turns out it's Walking Dead with aliens instead of Zombies. :(
