Goddammit, there I was, minding my own business, casually browsing the US-PSN when suddenly BAM-Persona 2 for PSP. I think I resisted for about 5 seconds before buying a card and getting it.

P2 is one of those games you hear SO much about over here but we never got to play it, kinda like FF6 back in the day. Wait...doesn´t...doesn´t Persona 2 have Hitler in it and his Persona is Nyarlathotep? How much better can this evening get :)

You're right about FF11. My friend had it on PS2 and I played it on PC. I've also played on my PC with people who have it on the xbox 360 so it definitely is cross platform....really how all games should be.

Shadowrun for the 360 and PC was cross-platform. Ironically, it was highly touted at the time for being that way and for being the first Game for Windows Live that was released. Since then, it's been the only Game for Windows Live that you can play with console owners. :lol

I really liked that game, too. Shame it had so many network issues. Everything else was solid, though. Pretty game.

I just put my money down on Dark Souls today. Traded in 12 games that were gathering dust and got $130, which surprised me. So I preordered Dark Souls and the Metal Gear Solid HD collection. I'm so psyched to play Peacewalker for the first time and go back to Big Shell and Groznyj Grad. I missed out on the Subsistence version of 3, too, so it'll be doubly awesome. :eek

If Sega had ever made a console post-Dreamcast, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat. Should it's game library be similar to DC's (Arcade perfect ports and unique 1st party exclusives) that'd be even more of a reason for me to get it. Unlike the Wii though, I think that the system would have to be capable of HD graphics. I don't mean to say that great graphics make a difference and it's not just great gameplay, as I certainly don't think that's the case. In today's market for console games, HD seems to be very important with most TVs now. Playing standard def. on an HDTV looks like ass for the most part. I recently I've been playing Skyward Sword and thought to myself that the game would be amazing with HD graphics.

Anyhoozle, a console for the more hardcore gamer would be nice to have now-a-days. Or at least a console where it's games aren't mostly sports and first person shooters or total crap shovelware games.

Without a doubt. The Dark Brotherhood is one of my favorites, as is the entire quest revolving around Markarth and the Forsworn.

At the end of the game, all I wanted to do is talk to dragons all day. I think I'm pretty much done with it.

I just killed everyone in the Dark Brotherhood because I didn't take kindly to being kidnapped. I've got what I think are a few more main quests 'til I finish. Haven't bothered with the colleges past one or two quests, either.

I never bothered with the Companions or the Bards because they weren't really interesting to me. The Mage's college is pretty cool, though.

Don't get me wrong; I was very impressed with Dark Souls, but Skyrim is just soooo massive. I think that I prefer some aspects of the gameplay in DS, but I prefer Skyrim overall. The scale of the thing is crazy, and I'm one of those people that seeks immersion from games. This one delivers.

Still, just talking about DS makes me crave that combat. Fuck, I loved stabbing stuff with my lightning spear. I can still upgrade and enchant in this one, though.

It's weird because they're very different in what they're trying to achieve, yet I can't hep but get similar feelings from the both of them.

Again, havent played skyrim... But I watched a friend kill a dragon. It took just a few good fireballs (fire on a dragon? Really?) and the dragon dropped without much trouble. He did this while just strolling through town shopping like it wasnt a big deal. Point being, I think it would take killing every dragon in that game to come close to sense of accomplishment as killing one black knight; victory in DS is oh so sweet.

By the end, I was doing a riposte on every black knight that I came across. I made a chaos halberd and was wearing black knight armor, and I absolutely destroyed those black knights in the Kiln of the First Flame. Upgrading your equipment in that game is very satisfying. It took me a while to upgrade my grass crest shield, but by the time it was +10, it was awesome. Same goes for the +10 lightning winged spear.

I tried killing that giant drake on new game+, and fuck, even the dragonslayer bow was doing fuck all for damage. I just gave up. It took only a handful of dragonslayer arrows in the regular game :(.

The difficulty on New Game + ramps up HARD. I eventually stopped playing around the time I beat the butterfly and killed that noxious dragon in the Valley of the Drakes because I don't have Xbox Live and I'm just going to end up missing out on the best half of the game, anyway.

Once you beat that do you get to do a new game ++? Does it up the difficulty again? Or could you beat it a few times over and actually be able to walk around more or less a god?

Not that bad, its a little slower but if you run the game on a ps2 you can turn on the faster load times for ps1 games. Not as fast as the snes cartridge but not horrible.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is the best of the series. You suck guitar woman. You suck and your opinions are always wrong. The fourth MGS is pretty bad though, i'll give you that.

As for recommendations, get Heavy Rain. You'll propably hate it.

Not really a beef, it just doesn't seem interesting to me. Generic video game protagonist gets in lots of pop-up shootouts while chasing some blonde with a weird face and waiting for Dan Brown to come knocking with his resume. Not a game I'd play through more than once, right?

I think Tomb Raider 1 is still my Indiana Jones ripoff game of choice, and Uncharted won't really have shit on it unless it's got a haunting, lonely atmosphere and is deeply traumatising to any 7-year-olds who happen to play it.

I mean, I won't ever believe that the casual vibe is going to corrupt the entire world, but the microtransactions that involve large pieces of content scare me.

I don't think either will matter in the long run. There are too many people making games and too many people JUST getting into making games and many of them don't work off of those types of pay structures. In fact, I'd say some of my favorite games and ones I've spent most on have been Pay What You Want or sub-$20, having been worked on by small, small teams. The game I'm most psyched for in the near future, Hawken, only has about 9 people working on it and will be free to play.

My point is that, as afraid as I am that shitty free to play games and DLC is going to ruin many games, there's still going to be a ton of games out there and the market will welcome that. I don't like what EA's been doing with their games, so I've made the conscious decision not to give a fuck about any of their games. Guess what? I don't care about Mass Effect and Dead Space and Star Wars and Need For Speed anymore. They've poisoned them for me and it's easy not to go back to them.

Ambitious games that work with a few new ideas, then refine them well get me these days, like Amnesia, Legend of Grimrock, and STALKER.

If Angry Birds wants to make money off of rubes, then that's fine with me. Doesn't affect my sphere too much. They have a right to make tons of money and rubes have a right to be rubes.

With the envelopes full of extra money and cop/triad xp? Yeah, pretty weak. It's one thing to buy stuff like that in an MMO to try and mitigate the grind a little, but you shouldn't have any trouble getting that stuff in that game. Triad xp was a little tricky because you could only get it in story missions, but even then, the right clothes would have you maxed out before the game was over.

That's legitimately the first Tetsuya Nomura character design that had me laughing out loud. That shit is a popped dracula collar, two halves of a skirt and two halves of a cape, gothic black leather shoulder pads tapering down into opera gloves, and a backless corset... thing. If you got rid of the non-leather parts of that outfit it'd be something from fucking Aeon Flux. Not to mention it's clipping into itself during that initial closeup. Fucking classy.

What really set me off though was the fucking sunglasses at the end. There are no words. Nomura's got to be just taking the piss out of himself at this point, there's no way he isn't.

Yeah, apparently they still think that the reason people don't like it is because of how Dante looks. The reason normal gamers don't like it is because it's a piss-poor and short action game with an even shorter story, most of which is stolen from THEY LIVE! The hardcore DMC fans don't like it because it just absolutely shits on everything that the series was about.

Them putting that skin how shows just how worried they are since the game directer (Taneem) said before that the reason they didn't go with Old Dante's design was because he was too "outdated and old" of course then they put a skin from The Crow in it showing they don't give a shit how outdated something is right after.

It was in development "by gearbox software" for almost the entire time they produced Borderlands 1 and 2, and apparently much of the game was outsourced to different companies. It's always online, it will not function without Kinect, and it requires you to pay fees for used games. And by "fees" I mean "the full retail price of the game." If you want to bring a copy of a game over to a friend's house you have to pay the price of the game again to be able to play it on their console. I just... why? Why would you do that? You're going to lose at least twice as much money from the lack of anyone buying this stupid fucking shit than you'd lose from used game sales. Holy fuck.

The always online has been debunked... sort of. Sure, you don't need to be online all the time, but if you aren't you will miss out on updates and such that might keep you from playing games. Oh, and those updates? Yeah, they might be an every day occurrence. My PC doesn't even update that often.

The used game fee, no matter what the price you'll eventually have to pay, is bullshit. Gamestop's prices for some used games are bad enough, (Oh, only $54.99, HOLY SHIT, THE SAVINGS!) but to have another amount to pay on top of that is just bananas. Also, the not being able to play at a friend's house thing has been given an answer...

To be fair, I haven't touched my PS3 since Persona 4 Arena came out, and I haven't touched my Wii U since the Rayman Challenge levels first came out.

The console market is charging head-first into a market crash, and I'm not sure anyone knows what to do about it. To its credit, the XB1's unveil was better than the 360's, and it's the only one that seems to really understand living room integration. But I feel like the CoD audience can't support either console on its own, and the Wii U just doesn't have a pulse at all.

People who actually care about games have a PC, and maybe a 3DS. Consoles are more for the general audience, who's getting its gaming fix through tablets and phones and facebook.

EDIT: As for used games, I don't really care. Right now I have the income to buy new games (or wait for Steam sales). When I was in high school, though, I practically lived off of used games, so I'm bummed there's going to be kids at that age who can't scrap together money for a nicotine-laden Devil May Cry, or trading games with some weird dude in the parking lot who probably deals drugs but is the only guy in 20 miles who has a copy of Disgaea so you trusted him anyways and ended up at a creepy part of town you never new existed trying to find the game in a stranger's apartment under stacks of porn and The Boston Phoenix.

So it's a bummer to see that go away.
