It's true, people really don't take care of their consoles. People bring their 360s to me all the time looking for tech support (not that I know how to fix any of this shit) and 90% of the time the problem is that someone knocked it over or the fan area is literally choked with dust and spider eggs.
Let's get something straight, though: The 360's hardware failures are monstrous compared to those of the PS3. That's a fact. However, Microsoft probably initially tested the 360 using people who know how to take care of a console, and not the inbred morons who actually ended up buying the thing and complaining when their hardware failed because they apparently live in mud huts. So Microsoft may have excused failtastic hardware because the failure rates were considerably lower in the laboratory. Or maybe Microsoft is honestly run by a cadre of hand-wringing Scrooges, I don't know.
That's another thing to take into account, too: The 360's primary audience is mostly targeted between those golden ages of 12-24 year old males. In other words, the most irresponsible people on the planet. The PS3 is generally targeted toward older people who are interested in the Blu-Ray features and have the means to use the hardware that most younger folk don't. For every PS3 that comes to me in awful condition, there are at least 360s that have urine stains on them.

There's certainly no denying that people are stupid. At the same time, I don't feel like that's an explanation for why failure rates are so high for this generation. Or at least why failure rates are so high outside of Florida.

The 360s probably just commit suicide because they know they won't get Killzone 2 :rolleyes

Or you can get a console that you dont have to be afraid of breaking down constantly..and the 360's that red ring dont just happen because of people not taking care of their system, it's because of faulty hardware.
Microsoft rushed it out to market and see what happened? Vista had the same dilemma when it first launched.
The only thing i see Xbox Live having over PSN is in-game cross voice chat, being able to send voice messages and in-game invites, and i dont think thats ever worth 50 dollars, microsoft tried to do it on the pc and guess what, no one paid 50 dollars for it.
And to say a service is somehow better because you pay for it, thats not true, Valve doesnt charge you to use steam and its services, right? That's because they make money off games on the service they sell.
And guess what, theres a store on the ps3! They make money off that and they do constantly add new features and listen to the fans.

Yeah: don't turn on your 360 or expose it to any heat.
People, please. It's ok to like the 360 while still acknowledging that each console has a certain chance of bricking. The reason people put up with it is because of the great gaming experience when it does work.

Yeah man the CELL PROCESSOR which gives developers the unique ability to make their cross-platform games look slightly worse than the 360 and much worse than the PC, how are you gonna' beat that?
Dr. Boogie: it's the CPU of the PS3 which is supposedly powerful but no twat can figure out how to use it properly so in practical terms it's about as good as the 360, maybe slightly less so.

My brother just bought a sony viao. It can use a bluetooth mouse. We were trying to figure out if that is a good thing or not. Isn't just another wirless protocol? I have wireless mouse and keyboard, but the come with an adapter that plugs into my usb. I guess bluetooth would keep that usb port free, but is it as fast as my adapter setup? That is the question I have running in my head.

It's pretty good to have bluetooth support as you can easily hook up a bluetooth keyboard and use it with the web-browser or whatever, or even pull media off certain devices but it's hard to imagine anyone buying a PS3 specifically for the bluetooth support :/

The browser is also great for watching Hulu and Youtube on your TV, yes you can use a ton of different things to do that but its built into the ps3, and it's not free on the wii anymore.
Also, controllers with built in rechargable batteries, you know for those people that dont really want to buy batteries or rechargable ones at that.

You remind me of this real winner of a kid that I went to Jr High with. He was a pretty ugly kid, not very bright, but he always tried to join in on stuff with my friends and I. Normally, we might've been willing to let him hang out with us, despite all of his obvious flaws, but this kid was ALWAYS talking about how great fucking Nike is. It was so annoying, but this kid never fucking shut up about it and he always tried to steer the conversation in that way. Eventually, he must've wised up and realized that no one liked him, 'cause he fucked off.

The rule about ranting fanboyism is that it belongs in this damn thread.
And Micro, he raises a valid point: you keep going on and on about the PS3, but you've driven away any support you might have had with your fanatical devotion. At this point, everyone is more or less just saying whatever they can to annoy you.
Why even bother with this anymore? Are you hoping that the people who like the 360 will suddenly cave in and buy a PS3 because you finally wrote "the 360 has no games, the PS3 has powa!" enough times to break them down?

The point is, people say stupid shit on here like " the 40 plus percent of 360's that failed are obviously people that dont give a shit about their console, right? not shitty hardware or anything"
I don't think i've said anything wrong about the ps3 if im talking about purely hardware, my opinions like i think the games are better aren't facts.
And if i was a true ps3 fanboy, i wouldnt love playing on the pc as well.

I know the 360 has good qualities but it has so many bad qualities that it's just another Xbox 1 to me and i regretted having that because it had none of the great unique games that were on the playstation 2.
The games that are on the xbox 360 that are of any quality and EXCLUSIVE, is halo 3 and gears of war 2 and maybe even banjo kazooie.
This is just like the Xbox 1 in which it had Halo 1 and 2 and Chronicles of Riddick and Conker and whatever multiplatform games it had.
Read over what i write and maybe you will see that i do have a point behind what i say, get over yourselves

I know the 360 has good qualities but it has so many bad qualities that it's just another Xbox 1 to me and i regretted having that because it had none of the great unique games that were on the playstation 2.
So now we finally get to the heart of the matter: you don't like the 360 because an xbox burned you in the past.
Seriously, though, here's the deal: your points about the PS3 having great hardware are irrelevant. Hardly anyone can work with them, and even when they do, the difference is negligible. It costs the most of any console. It no longer has any backwards capability. And sixaxis is a silly gimmick. And you, you talk about hating console shooters like Halo and Gears of War, then you turn around and heap praise onto Killzone 2.
But you know what? Everything I just listed is irrelevant. It's irrelevant because console war threads are intractable and dull, and you are incapable of even talking about the PS3 without devolving into a defensive annoying little twit. For you, the 360 is a machine that plays Halo for 5 minutes before bursting into flames, and the PS3 is a machine that converts nuclear waste into a cure for cancer.
That's why your posts on the issue deserve no more than an emoticon and a derisive remark.

Micro, I'm sure if you sent a transcript of your posts (and some of our replies) from this thread to Sony, they'd see what a great asset you are to their further advancement in the field of gaming and would undoubtedly send you some free stuff. Stuff that you can use on your amazing console.

We should argue about this in the "argue about videogames" thread :D
FFXII has the least amount of characterization. The story was garbage. I liked the fact that it took place in Ivalice but the majority of games that take place in Ivalice were bad.
Good ones:
1) FF Tactics
2) Vagrant Story
Bad ones:
1) FFXII
2) FF Tactics Advance
3) FFXII part two...the one for ds.
FF9 was really awesome. Only horrible part was the end boss.
For FFXII I really enjoyed the first 30 hours of it because I played it like it was FFXI. I solo'd till I got till level 25....then I got my second character.....the blond girl.
FFXII was just so bland. I would like to try the international zodiac edition because it looked like they actually individualized each char.

My main gripe with 12 was the fact that there was no fantasy in the game (for a FF-Game). "There´s these bad guys here and the have these...you know...ships and stuff and they wage war and all that jazz". So? Where are the fucking demons? Where´s the suspense? Okay, it had a Dragon, I´ll give it that. Oh and the main character, that little halfnude bastard Vaan...I HATE that kid, honestly. Worst main character in a RPG ever.
I actually liked FF Tactics Advance 1 and 2, but not because of the story, I just love the job-system. FF9 on the other hand...IS good, I know that, but it´s not fun for me. I try to play through it for 10 years now but I always cancel the whole thing after about 10-15 hours (maybe because it runs 20% slower here, curse you, old PAL games!)
Oh and I actually liked FF8. Weak story, sure, but you got freaking powerful after a while, that makes up for any weak story.

I didn't think it was possible for anyone to actively dislike FF7 unless they were pulling guitar woman shit where they just try to go against the grain.I played it sometime in 2002 for the first time when I borrowed it from a friend. Never got past the first disk. Story was okay, but the combat was slow, and random encounters felt too frequent. Once I left Midgar, it just wasn't interesting anymore; the game's introduction was really gripping, but got less and less interested as the story started to slow down.
Compared to Chrono Trigger, an SNES game, FF7 felt dated as fuck. Why would I want random encounters, slow battles, overly long attack animations, and ugly Popeye graphics when Chrono Trigger has none of that? Sure, the graphics complaint is a bit unfair, but still...
To be fair, I really wanted to like it, because zomg it's FF7, but it didn't jive well with me. Don't get me wrong, though; I see why people make a big deal over it, and I'm not saying people aren't allowed to like it or some shit; I just think that, as a game, it's not very good, even for the time it was released.

I liked the political story, and I liked that the leading female and the leading male were already taken, meaning they weren't going to fall in love with each other at the credits. Basch and Noah/Gabranth's relationship was interesting, particularly at the very end, and Balthier was one smooth motherfucker. Larsa was surprisingly awesome too; I was certain that he'd double cross my party, because he seemed shifty at the start, but he ended up being pretty damn cool. And totally loaded with X-Potions :D
Also, a lot of people really dig Tactics Advance. It sold a lot of copies and has a really strong following. Meanwhile, I'd argue that the original Tactics is pretty flawed; I can't see precisely where I place my units or who I'm fighting, so it comes down to luck at the very start. The story requires sparknotes, and the Calculator or whatever is so fucking broken. Tactics A2, while having the worst characters and story in the history of strategy RPGs, had some deep gameplay and the job system was pretty damn addicting.

I really reccomend you getting past disc of FF7. I've played through it at least 4 times. It's not the end all be all game it's really solid. I hated FF8 the first time through but began to appreciate it after playing through it a few more times.
Same thing the first time I played FF tactics. I rented it, didn't come with instructions and died really quick because I didn't know what I was doing. After MUCH MUCH MUCH insisting by my friend to pick it up again and try I did. He showed me some pointers and I'm really appreciative of the fact that I was fortunate enough to get back into it. FF tactics blew my mind. It took a little whilte to follow the story but it's still really good. FF tactics advance was fun to play for a while, I liked the Vierra more than the other classes because it seemed they could get the best jobs. storywise though was a crock. I didn't even bother with FFTA2 so I can't comment on it.
FF6 is by far the best in my opinion.
I've been playing FFXI on and off again since 2004 and it has a special place in my heart for wasting the most time on a single game.

I pretty much hate it to be honest. I just don't care for that kind of thing. The art style, the story, the characters - it just makes me think "Mehh fuck this". The Japanese-ness of it is the main problem for me. Damn Japanese.

FF1, 6, and 7 are my favorites, and I don't hate 8 as much as everyone else seems to. I generally regard everything after that as an abortion, but now that I have a PS2 I might give 12 a chance if I ever happen across it.
I played Final Fantasy 2 and liked it, but couldn't be arsed to get very far because the leveling system was completely fucked. Props to this one for being the first to have set characters, instead of MAGE, FIGHTER, THIEF.
Final Fantasy Tactics is the most boring game I have ever played in my life.

Actually, I got Tactics for PSP, and my experience consisted of:
-Picking random units because I can't see the map I'm fighting on
-What do you mean "you can only bring 5 people"? Why give me, like, 30 slots if I'll never use them?
-Waiting for my turn
-Special attacks LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG
-Oh god please let it be my turn now
-Another special attack is killing the frame rate again
-Oh for fuck's sake when's my turn?
-Okay I can go now. I attacked a guy.
-The enemy I just attacked ran away and healed.
-It's still not my turn yet.
-My lunch break is over now.

Yeah, you have to get tactics for a console or even emulate it. The first battle is kind of bland because you don't really have any abilities yet. I couldn't even imagine playing it on a lunch break unless it was later on in the game. Battles generally take a long time. I would end up making Ramza a Warrior with Dual Wield from Ninja and Ignore Height from Dragoon, then give him an excalibur for +Haste and just go and woop on people in no time.
FF Tactics enemies also level up with your characters so the game is continually challenging.
This glitch only happened on my friends game but later on you come across a battlefield where he had to fight around 12 Monk enemies. Normally not that bad if there's a few of them but anytime you would attack one of them, two others would come over and chakra each other so they basically had almost a regen effect on.

Actually, I could usually get one battle done over the course of a 15 minute break. But then I got stuck on the map with the guillotine, and that battle's such bullshit that, when combined with all the other crap I hated (not seeing where exactly my units are going, waiting forever to input a command, random battles, isometric maps) made me stop playing the game. I tolerated that stuff to a point, but once I got stopped at that map, I pretty much had my full.
I'd give it a C, only because I'd like to think that buried somewhere in that whole mess is a compelling game.

There's so much to do in Tactics. You just have to put up with it for a little while to really get good. I was stuck on the warehouse battle for quite some time because of the black mages. The Velius battle wasn't too bad for me but I was forwarned about it. That's the one with Ramza and Velius by themselves at the start where you can steal the Genji equipment right?

No, it just ate the disc, but LaD needs GTA4 to run itself because it's still set in Liberty City and downloading the entire city over again when you've already got it on a disc would be retarded and probably take up half the hard drive. I sort of wish they'd have made an entirely new city and released it as a seperate game, but the plot is way less angsty than GTA4 and brings back all the glorified violence hilarity of the other games, and feels like a "proper" new-age Grand Theft Auto. Again I highly reccommend everyone get Lost and Damned who hasn't already. It's awesome.
My favorite mission was when I had to assassinate some naked politician's greedmonger uncle when he got off a helicopter at an airport. I rode over there with a rocket launcher, shot all three cars for his convoy, stole the helicopter, and mowed him down with the blades as he was fleeing across the tarmac. He went soaring into the skybox and I flew off into the sunset.
HUGE SUCCESS.

Guitar Woman
Apr 10th, 2009, 06:55 PM
I've been a fan of the series since 2?
One thing that makes me shit my pants over GTA are those missions. You know, the completely retarded, iconic, too-hard-for-their-own-good missions that you have to re-do a thousand times before you finish them, and that Vice City seems to be entirely comprised of. I might have been referring to that.
GTA's progression also being mission-based, the narratives usually feel sort of disjointed or something, but that's really not a big problem and the spectacular writing more than makes up for that.

That was after the first time I had played GTA4 and couldn't wrap my head around how handbrake turns don't work anymore. That's sort of made up for by how hard it is to flip vehicles over, which I am very fucking thankful for.
The AI is still retarded, and every GTA has been loaded with bugs and weird inconsistencies (by which I was able to kill everyone in some bar in the desert in San Andreas, leave, and then come in and find they had all respawned so I could do it again), the PS2 version of Vice City in particular.

I'm debating whether or not to get a Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder arcade machine for my house. It's between that and new furniture.

Jul 10th, 2009, 01:31 PM
Depends on what your furniture is like at the moment I suppose. I would love to have a cabinet in my basement or something, but the novelty would probably wear off after a little while.

I have a green couch that came with my apartment(it's not comfy.). I'm looking to get a love seat, couch and chair though that actually looks nice. I live on the 2nd story though so getting the arcade machine up the steps would be a bit challenging. Maybe I'll look into getting a standard machine I can assemble and buying a circuit board for Golden Axe.

That sounds fun, actually. DIY projects are always satisfying. :D
I wish I had room for something like that. Maybe when I move out in a year or two.

Guitar Woman
Jul 15th, 2009, 08:23 PM
There are two or three Smod packs, but they're basically just collections of fixes and tweaks and aesthetic changes along with Oblivion Lost.
If you've modded your game considerably you probably have most of the good content from them.

I am going to laugh like hell if the animal dies. Funny since I've felt emotionally attached since I saw the trailer.
That brings up a question though, am I just easily impressed or does it seem like the graphic designers are actually doing an amazing job with not very much for polygons?

This coming from the person with all the silly anime avatars  I've probably played the game 8 times through with all the gold gems. I know the game's good.
I didn't like Terran's stages, though. I thought I did, but when I replayed it, his controls felt pretty rushed, and the boss fight was stupidly easy.

Phoenix Gamma

Never tried to juggle her because I assumed she had I-frames like a lot of bosses do. But even if you let her hit the ground, which is what I always did, you can just uppercut her again before she can do anything.

Hey, you know what? I need to vent.
Brawl sucked.
No More Heroes was great.
MadWorld was too easy and didn't have as many interesting characters.
Final Fantasy VII sucked.
WoW sucks.
DAoC sucks because EA deleted my character.
Ultima Online sucks because the new client runs like ass but the game used to be good.
BlazBlue is too weeaboo.
Street Fighter IV has a fantastic combat system but I lack the drive to play it.
Yuzo Koshiro is second only to Masafumi Takada when it comes to composing game music.
I think this does it for me. Anyone may troll or argue or whatever now. I just needed to voice my opinions, regardless of my lack of actual evidence.
