BIT. Trip Void is out. Game's pretty cool, but not as exciting as the first two games. They insist this is a major release for them, though, so I'll keep playing.
On world 5 of Yoshi's Island. I forgot that the game is legitimately challenging. I can't wait to fight Raphael the Raven.
Also, I beat Little Big Planet PSP a few days ago. It's awfully short, and since you need to update the firmware to use PSN to download the levels, I won't be playing it for awhile.

Got Ikaruga working on my Dreamcast emulator. Never played it before, but I love me some shmups. Very, very cool game. The color mechanic kinda fucks with me, but I think I'll get the hang of it.
Also, downloaded The Mighty Jill Off. It's Bomb Jack, starring a masochist who needs to climb a tower to earn the privilege to lick her queen's boot. Very hard, but fun and cute. The S&M thing isn't too forced, so the few little winks in the game are actually kinda funny (To quit the game, you need to use your safe word: ESC.)

Zelda: Spirit Tracks was leaked. I beat the first dungeon.
It's a lot better than Phantom Hourglass. Some people loved that game, some people hated it, but this game at least addresses some of the issues (touch controls are a lot better, the graphics are slightly upgraded and are actually taken advantage of).
They have a lot of creative ideas, like standing on top of the big iron suit zelda and having a game of chicken against a small enemy riding an exploding statue. The instrument is gimmicky as hell, but I love it. The train is less cool, but it's got a rope you can pull to toot the horn...
Also, the game's funny as hell. It almost comes close to Paper Mario. Most of it is from Zelda, though there's some great in-game moments that were really funny, like when you have to distract the guards by talking/staring at them.
B+ so far. First item was kinda silly, but at least it's being used a lot.

Cursed Mountain.
Imagine Silent Hill in Tibet with less grimy otherworld shifts and more ghosts and incense burning and you'll probably be thinking of something pretty close to Cursed Mountain.
I think the only things I don't like so far are the Wiimote finishing moves and door unlocks, which register cleanly about half the time, and the silly slideshow cutscenes. If they had just rendered them in 3D or animated them like Thief has they'd be more interesting, but it's not really a deal-breaker. I'm glad there's a subtitle option, too, because the main character tends to mumble a fair bit of his narration.
Combat kind of reminds me of Killer7 or a really slow-paced Resident Evil 4. The sound effects are fantastic, and the developers seemed to realize that they weren't making a PS1 game and actually put work into making the game look nice.
Anyway, I love the game, and y'all should check it out if you're in the mood for a slow-burning horror game. It's not really scary, I think, but it can get harrowing if only because the controls aren't very good.

So, I'm about halfway through the third dungeon in Spirit Tracks. I'd like to talk about the train whistle, though.
The train whistle is used by pulling a rope on screen with the stylus while you're traveling around the map. This is pretty cool, because you can make a "CHOO CHOOOOOO" sound, or one long "CHOOOOOOOO", or a bunch of short "CHOO"s. Sometimes, I randomly pull the rope to annoy anyone in the room, pumping my fist in the air as if I was actually pulling the rope.
But the whistle is also, like, the best thing in the history of forever. Animals blocking the track? Scare those fuckers with the whistle. Spider dangling from overhead? Whistle his ass out of there. Is Beetle flying overhead in his balloon? Why not call him down with a whistle? The bunnies hiding behind rocks love whistles so much that they jump out whenever you toot it. The warp points are also activated with the whistle, which is cool, because the actual portal you drive the train into gets bigger and smaller depending on how loud you're blowing the whistle.
Once, I had to take a bridge builder to another part of the map. He told me I had to follow the signs along the sides of the track, and sometimes, the signs would tell me to blow the whistle. There wasn't a reason to; I just had to because the game said so.
Did I mention that you can get different whistles? Because you can totally get different whistles. I haven't noticed any difference in gameplay when you equip your train with different whistles, but I need to get all of them.
It's an amazing whistle and really sets the bar for future video games. If I was asked to score this game for Metacritic, I'd give it whistle/100.
(The rest of the game is good, too. I can't remember the last time a Zelda puzzle stumped me for more than a minute.)

:|
Well, in any case, I beat it. What an awesome ending. I was confused by what was actually going on in the therapy sessions. I'll probably answer him differently now that I know the twist.
I did some reading up on the original game to compare it. This game kinda pulls a "Star Trek" to explain why this game doesn't follow the original very closely.
Basically, Harry dies in the car crash in the beginning. Cheryl clings onto the idea that he survived. You're Cheryl in the therapy sessions, and the stuff you see Harry go through is based on your personality so that the whole sequence is Cheryl's nightmare, which is why different characters look and act differently. The game ends with Cheryl accepting his death after "Harry" walks in during the end of the session, followed by different video footage of the real Harry depending on the ending you get.
Overall, a really good game. I didn't mind the lack of ass combat that horror games like to cram in. Yea, they're bad for a reason, but here you're running from the monsters for a reason. As someone with no expectations on what a Silent Hill game "should" be, I enjoyed it a lot.

Chubby people underwater THATīs what it plays and looks like...in FF X I could tone that down by changing my TV-Settings around but FF X-2 is handled SO weird...never can you get a circle to look like a circle, either its a vertical ellipse or a horizontal one...and I canīt get it to run on my PS2-Emulator because apparently itīs almost impossible to emulate 3d-PS2-Games correctly...I think Final Fantasy 13 will be the first one that I can play as it was supposed to be played...
One funny thing about FF9 though. The german translators tried REALLY hard to make it original this time. Ruby talks like someone from eastern germany, one of the Tantalus speaks...I think itīs supposed to be bavarian, we have sachsian accents and most of the enemies have different names too...my favorite is the "Bettelcat" which is the "Gimmecat" in the english Version...I really like the He-Man reference on that one (and "betteln" means to beg, so itīs rather fitting). Definetely one of the best unique Videogame-translations ever.
Also nice for non-german-speakers: The grand dragon was renamed to "Tatzelwurm", a wonderful old word for dragon :lol

There's 5 temples, and you get more floors after each one, including the 5th temple. Except when you reach the end, each Tower of Spirits segment is about as long as a whole dungeon. Especially your last visit. After that, you unlock the last area of the map, which takes a few minutes to clear, followed by three bosses.
I got an assload of hours from doing sidequests, though. I almost got everything, but the bunnies are a pain the the ass, and I need to spend 5,000 ruppees in Beetle's shop for the last heart container.
Oh, don't forget to do the mini-dungeons in Hyrule Castle Town. You know, where you fight a shitload of enemies? The third one is hard as balls, but the last fight is pretty damn cool.

Do you like the old school side scrolling mario games? If you do I have no idea how you can't have fun with the DS or wii versions of side scrolling mario. Sure, nintendo might have been lazy with the games but they are both alot of fun and I can't see how if you enjoyed the old school mario games how you could be disappointed with these new versions. Oh and have you played the multiplayer coin game on the ds version? Def one of the best multiplayer experiences on the ds.

New Mario DS' multiplayer how btc and I met.
New Mario Wii is definitely better, though the single player doesn't bring any real improvements that are associated with Mario sequels.
Trying out Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers. It's weird. Not like any of the Crystal Chronicles games, not like any of the FF games. The hero isn't fucking lame, Bon Jovi's upcoming album is featured in the promos, the combat is all action (using telekinesis?!) and the story is just weird. Not sure how I feel about it yet.
I'm also playing Echoshift on PSP. Echochrome was one of those games I refuse to take off of my memory stick. It's great for portable sessions, and I loved the music and graphics, and the gameplay was really cool. This one isn't as cool as the first, but the mechanics are solid, and the game's structured so that you kinda have a score to aim for. The music is still awesome, only now a new instrument is added for every "cast" you use. So you start with one set of notes, then build up to a full fleshed song once you have around 3 or 4 clones of yourself working together.

The games that Steam offers that use Games for Windows LIVE, (Fallout 3, Dawn of War II, Kane and Lynch, Red Faction, etc.), do, but there are a few games you can only get from Microsoft's service, like Microsoft Studios games, (Shadowrun, Viva Pinata, Gears of War). If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that if Fable II was ever released on the computer, it'd have to be on there. It'd go without saying that digital distribution of all their games would happen on THEIR platform.

For example, does RE5 on Steam have achievements? Well if it didn't and the GFW version had GFW achievements that integrated with Xbox achievements, that'd be a much nicer incentive

That Black Mage sidestory sure was sad. That, and that the last chunk of the game is terrible garbage, are the only things I really remember about FF9.
For the last two months I've had this weird, intense urge to play something Nintendo-y. Ultimately, I had to settle on the only Nintendo game I own that I've not played, Animal Crossing for the grandpa gamecube. I turned my nose up at this game a few years ago, I didn't get the appeal then, but that was 'cus I was cheating at it. Endlessly tampering with my gamecube's internal clock and using codes to get any item I damned pleased. Now, playing it the way god intended, I'm finding I like it a lot but I'm curious why everyone in the game keeps calling me a human when I'm obviously some sort of bull monster.

I did all the Chocobo-Digging and got Zidanes Ultimate Weapon. Most of the other stuff...nah, too much work for stuff I donīt need...the last bosses were far too easy already but thatīs just the way FF is I guess...and yes, the last hour or so was a bit...strange, true, but all in all the story was a LOT better than the crap FF8 pulled.
I tried playing FF12 but...I canīt. I just canīt take it, itīs too bland, it feels soooo unimportant...and yes, the Characters of course...
I find it funny how the game teases you with Rassler in the beginning and you think "Oh, nice, he would make a good Main Character, look at that Armor!", bam-dead.
Next is Basch. "Oh well, he looks cool too." No-not the main Character. Then we are presented with Reks, already half naked. "Oh for Hasturīs Sake FINE Iīll play him if it really has to be!"
BUT NO! We get Vaan, his 8-year-old, sounds-like-crap, goes-to-a-swimsuit-contest-or-something-little brother. "GODDAMNIT GAME! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"
An old story, I know, but I felt the urge to tell it again. Oh and the leveling-system sucks balls too.
So I might try to play through Vagrant Story instead, which is sadly not yet on the US-PSN (it is on the european PSN but I donīt want to switch around my PSP-Accounts, itīs too annoying)

It's pretty damn good if you like light gun games. I'm not familiar with Dead Space, but I played for an hour with a friend and had fun.
I tried Uncharted 2 the other day. I got it for my dad for his birthday, and he hasn't stopped talking about it, so when I finally came home for the holiday, he made sure I tried it.
I don't like it all that much. The cinematics are cool, and I love how they integrate with gameplay (see: the opening sequence. So fucking cool). But the combat frustrates me, especially when it feels like you're stuck camping while the game throws out more and more enemies out of nowhere until it decides you can move on. The part where you get grenades and have to keep throwing them made me want to shut the game off. I'll try it again in a few days, but I'm not having "Game of the Year" levels of fun with it.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

Framerate drops to about 5 fps whenever Harry approaches doors, likely due to his crippling fear of them; in fact, he will sometimes simply teleport through the door to avoid having to come into contact with it
FUCK quick-time events
Fuck Wiimote quick-time events that aren't fucking responsive
Westerners trying to imitate J-horror, but not doing bad at all
Harry is still retarded
I like that you can open doors slowly and peek out from behind them, although so far the game has divided itself into two modes: Walking around looking for shit, and running the fuck away, with no in-between that would require cautious treatment of doors.
Can't hide from the little goblin bastards very often, so it's less Clock Tower and more that boulder level from Crash Bandicoot
Frantically running away as fast as I can doesn't exactly leave me with a good impression of where the fuck I am, although that's probably the point
How the fuck do I get more health after I get dry-humped a billion times
Protip: Flashlight goes fucking off in the iceworld
So far the Wii controls are fucking horrendous; I've died twice in the first chase thingie because it took me a billion tries to shake the little bastards off the way the game wanted. As a three-year Wiimote flailing veteran I should be used to this sort of shit by now, but I'm really not

Harry gets his "health" back by not being attacked for awhile. He'll stop limping and start running.
As for the controls, I didn't have a problem with them. If you do short, calculated swings, knocking off enemies is easy. They're not perfect, but big, crazed gestures don't help.
I got an iPod touch for Christmas, and part of the reason why I chose it over the Zune was the App store. $1-5 games with considerable production values is very attractive. So far, I've played:
Space Invaders Infinity Gene: Fucking sick shmup with good controls, awesome levels, and a game mode that makes levels based on the songs you play from your library. And it's constantly throwing new abilities for your ship.
I love Katamari: I had no idea this came out for iPod touch/iPhone. It's fun; you control it by tilting the iPod, with a few touch screen commands for turning around or speeding up.
Canabalt: Loved the flash version. This is basically the same thing. Which is fine, because it's addictive as hell and can suck up a minute or two of your time.
Rolando 2: reminds me of Loco Roco, but with more ideas but less charm. And tilt controls replacing the shoulder buttons of the PSP.

i loved the new silent hill, it's probably my favorite SH game...which is weird, considering it doesn't really do anything.
i mean you're either walking and exploring or sprinting and escaping with nothing in between. it does cause an "oh shit" sense of dread when the ice comes up, though, and that sense of dread is something i haven't felt in SH games for a long time. i felt it all the time in homecoming, but that was less that i had no means to combat enemies and more that i had the means to combat enemies but it fucking sucked.
i'm a big pretentious whore for introspection and psychoanalysis and scripted events and neat scenes though, and this game had all of those, so it's probably why i'm so hard for it. probably in my top five of all time, honestly, but that's probably just because i finished it a little under four hours ago, so i'm still high on life.
oh and
that princess was totally the most guilty for her death, was i the only person that thinks so? i was doing it with the idea that she shouldn't have run into a fucking field with a bull and kauffmann's all "YEAH, WHAT AN IDIOT, TRYING TO ESCAPE."

I think they could have gotten away with no chase scenes at all if they had padded the normal parts out with more puzzles.
It doesn't feel like much of a Silent Hill game, really, so I also think they could have just made a new IP with new characters, but kept the game exactly the same. This would avoid stepping on the toes of raging japanophiles, since Shattered Memories really has fuck-all to do with the original game as far as remakes go. It's great, though, I even caught myself enjoying the chase right after Lisa's apartment.
Anyway, I'll probably finish it tomorrow, then get all of the endings like I've done with all the other SH games. And do the UFO challenge, and hoarde all the mementos. It's a shame that there's no difficulty setting for the puzzles because I loved 3's retarded convoluted poetry deciphering marathons.
I said Celestine was the most guilty too, Schimid. Then the prince, then the bull, then the king. On reflection I think I did it backwards from what it should have been, since it's probably a "you're a horrible father" metaphor.
I fucked up pretty royally on the Sleeping/Dead test; I think I only said two or three of them were only sleeping. I hope that doesn't reflect poorly!

Tried Demon's Souls today.
I don't see what the big deal is. Yea, it's challenging...great. Plus, the hints from other people so far have been fucking useless. Like "Hole ahead!" right next to the hole, or watching another player die by facing the wall, not playing. Then I ran into some executioner-like dude in the first level or whatever, and he killed me in two hits. I took another path for about 30 minutes, and ended up back at the beginning. Basically, the hour or so I spent playing was totally redundant.
Regarding Silent Hill:
I said the Bull was most guilty, since he was the one that actually killed her, then the princess for being a moron, then the king for knowing she'd be miserable with the prince and making her marry anyways, then the prince. Or maybe I said the Prince was more guilty. I can't remember. I did realize you could knock them all over, though. Next time I play, I'll try that and see what he says.
My roommate said all of the photos were "sleeping", the psychiatrist laughed and said "figured you'd think it was a trick question" and immediately, his character got a black jacket, popped collar, and unbuttoned shirt with some chest hair. Basically, a total douchebag. Fitting, really.

This year, I have 25 Shurikens on me, and I'm about 5 levels higher than I usually am, so if I don't beat it tonight, I'll never finish it.
EDIT: Holy fuck, my Ninja was about to get killed, but my knight leapt infront of him, took the hit, died, and the Ninja finished the boss off with a Shuriken. Fucking close call. Now I can finally put that game away for good.

Team Fortress Classic.
Spy is a lot easier than it is in TF2, holy shit. This game puts in perspective how much horse shit I've put up with. Killing sentries with grenades is way fucking easier than with sappers, you can actually fool people with disguises, playing dead is a surefire way to hide in plain sight, and the Tranq gun is massively sexy. If they came out with that shit for the TF2 Spy I'd use it in a heartbeat.
I was thinking Soldier would still be the most overpowered class, but it seems like it's the Medic. They can fly across half the map with conc jumps, and they've got a double nailgun, a super shotgun, and can poison people.
Every class having grenades is a little annoying, especially when you think you've gotten a clean kill but they fucking explode when you go to pick up their dropped ammo.
The thing I like most about it is probably all the CTF maps; TF2 has about 3, and only Well is really any good. The lack of motherfucking Targe demos and the uselessness of Soldiers is also very, very, very refreshing. It's just a shame Demoman is total crap, since I lurve him in TF2.

Most people are awful at Max Payne until they figure out that you can go into bullet time without leaping into the air like a gazelle
Then the game becomes incredibly simple and posts like yours make us Payne vets do this -> :|
Also on the harder difficulties they limit the amount of quicksaves you can use. Not that you should ever need them.
Guitar Woman
Jan 3rd, 2010, 04:29 PM
in Max Payne 1 I just shootdive'd everywhere and did fine; I actually never used the "just bullet-time" thing because it made the game go way too fucking slow.
Max Payne 2's shootdiving is worthless, though, so I mapped bullet time to my middle click and would run into rooms in slow-motion, pump lead into everyone unfortunate enough to be standing around, execute BALLET TWIRLS as I reloaded my gun, and then go back into normal time as ragdolls rained gaily onto the floor around me. Good fun!
Both Max Payne games more or less have a difficulty curve that shoots directly upward for final collection of chapters. I don't know how many fucking times I had to re-do the end segment when the mansion was burning, or the shitty part where you play as Mona in the construction site.
It was a pretty good game, though, worth the 3 dollars I spent on it. I didn't think it was TOO HARD WAAH; I'm perfectly fine with games like Megaman 9 wherin you are constantly assaulted by barbed-wire baseball bats the entire time, and have enjoyed such experiences, I just hate it when moderately difficult games get insanely bullshit difficult right at the end. Especially good ones, since it ends up leaving a bad taste in my mouth and makes me feel like a trusted friend has betrayed me and kicked me in the bollocks. See also: Sands of Time
Chojin
Jan 3rd, 2010, 04:51 PM
I didn't think Mona's part was any harder, especially since she starts with a dragunov which is a guaranteed knockdown on anyone regardless of where you shoot them.
The mansion also isn't very difficult! Maybe you are bad at video games!
Also you get a SECRET ENDING for beating it on the hardest difficulty!

Being able to create things is a valuable skill in my opinion. I can´t build anything, except if you want to call wrinting stuff "building" something...ah well, I´ve always been better at destroying stuff I guess :D
Concerning the languages, I´ve always been glad to be from a non-english-speaking country. Essentially that gives me one language for free since english is pretty easy to learn after all. I think if you are able to speak english, you´re pretty much set in most of the western world. Okay, french and spanish are pretty handy languages all around the world (thanks, colonianism) but apart from that?
Take german for example. What good would it do an american to learn german? It´s not like you can speak it in that many countries. Okay, it´s probably more useful than learning...hmm...croatic for example or maybe polish.
Funfact: I always feel bad when I speak german in the netherlands. Almost everyone there seems to speak german (with that adorable acent :)) but I somehow feel bad about that they understand my language but I can´t understand theirs.
Ah well, at least german is a good shouting-language thanks to Hollywood.
ACHTUNG! SCHNAPS! or simply VERBOTEN! (which doesn´t make much sense all by itself).
Anyway, what language would you have liked to learn, Ghost? If you had the time and motivation. I don´t even know what they offer you over in the US. French? Italian? Spanish I guess...hm.

I hit points where I bulldoze everyone out of my way, then suddenly reach enemies that clobber me in the next dungeon. And I haven't run from any battles, either. I can tell you about it if you want, bought it yesterday for 20 Bucks (thanks Gamestop for buying my old crap nobody wants anymore).
Anyway, Darksiders. I guess itīs what you would call a suprise. At first it feels like a Devil May Cry-clone in terms of combat (all of Danteīs signature moves are there, the stinger, the sword-uppercut and so forth). After an hour or so, the world opens up and you get to venture through big Dungeon-Areas, get specific equipment like in Zelda and fight bosses with said equip - like in Zelda.
Storywise, youīre War, one of the four Horsemen of the apocalypse who has been summoned to earth because the seventh seal has apparently been broken and all of earth is full of angels and demons beating the crap out of each other (looks really nice, they fall from the heavens while punching each others face in and thus become a deadly meteorite :D). And so War does his job: Judging all of Heaven, Hell and Mankind on earth.
But OH NOES! War was summoned alone, no other Horsemen are there and there has been no calling for him. So his Bosses (the balance of the universe) punish him by stripping him of his awesome power and binding a Watcher to him (Mark Hamill) and send him investigating why Heaven and Hell act all Apocalyptic.
So, you run around, you whack the shit out of Zombies, Demons and Angels which all look really awesome. War can collect all kinds of stuff, can transform into a chaos-demon-fire-giant-WTF-thing for a short time, he has Rage-Magic, he can combo around like Dante, glide like Raziel, he later can summon his trusty Horsey to get around faster, and he can exchange the souls of the fallen for upgrades (provided by a cranky old demon who looks a lot like NerīZhul from Warcraft).
There really seems to be a lot to do and to collect. The Dungeons are not just fighting but also have a lot of jumping and operating mechanisms, finding treasure, Artifacts and new equipment.
I played it for around 5 hrs (of 20+ apparently) and I really like it, very nice game that I had not on my radar until last week or so.
Would really recommend it.

It's not that bad. The load times are a biiiiiit much, but the gameplay is totally fine and still superb. Frame rate dips aren't at all noticeable when you're actually playing because, well fuck, everything's going batshit insane.
I mean, I did a breakdance on my back (while shooting my new foot-mounted shotguns, of course), spun on my knees (nearly ducking under a giant's swinging axe), lept into the air, made a portal, dove through it, reappeared over the boss, kicked him in the head, struck a slutty pose when I hit the ground, then continued my 600+ combo by shooting him with my pistols and moving towards another enemy, whom I promptly tortured by kicking his ass into a guillotine.

What really got on my nerves was, that nothing ever happened. True, we played it with easy combat because we wanted to concentrate on the story but still, 90% of the time the game makes you run around empty buildings with WAY too many doors to find some parts for some puzzle that doesnīt make sense in the first place, even less than a Resident Evil-Puzzle :lol
The main gripe for me though is, that the game has essentially nothing to do with Silent Hill, the town itself doesnīt play any important part in the game, it just happens to take place there and the other world that the cult created, with the whole messiah-thing isnīt important at all anymore (okay, thatīs why they made 3 I guess)
The ending we got was the "Leave" Ending but we watched the other 3 (there are four apparently) on Youtube, none of them was very satisfying.
1. James sits beside his wife and apologizes for hating her, she says itīs okay.
2. James sits beside his dying wife and apologizes that a part of him hates her, she says itīs okay.
3. James rows around with a boat, meets Maria and they leave
4. The Dog was behind it all!
those were all the endings we saw.
What Iīm trying to say is:
I never played through SH2 before but I heard about the twist, canīt avoid reading a spoiler for a ten-year-old game I guess. But still, after we finished, I just thought: "Thatīs it? THAT is the epic masterpiece the people praise to this day? Are you kidding me?"

Maria is so terrified of Pyramid Head she is unable to run past James to escape from him. And if she dies, it will give you a game-over, despite the fact that she dies as part of a fucking cutscene 2 seconds later.
Also the point of the Maria ending is that James is just going to repeat what happened with Mary :<

The main gripe for me though is, that the game has essentially nothing to do with Silent Hill, the town itself doesn´t play any important part in the game, it just happens to take place there and the other world that the cult created, with the whole messiah-thing isn´t important at all anymore (okay, that´s why they made 3 I guess)
The town is the game, you think if James got an imaginary letter from Kearney, New Jersey he'd still be fighting mannequin monsters. They give you some interesting Silent Hill history in SH2 but they never explain the nature of Silent Hill in any of the games. That bit you said about the cult creating the other world is bullshit, those fags can't even create one good blasphemous devil-god.
Silent Hill 2 is my favorite Silent Hill because the story is the most mature one in the series. James Sunderland was in a real bad situation with his wife that could happen to anyone. No psychic god-children or satantic cults or crazy serial killers which makes me feel less silly analyzing it in great detail. Like, James' Silent Hill is not all bloody with mutilated bodies everywhere like Heather's, it's empty and decrepit. Even his dark Silent Hill is just more decrepit buildings. James vision of hell is nothing but the ugly world around him.
Dog spelled backwards is god. It's all coming together now.

As far as I remember, they explain it all pretty well in Silent Hill 1, parts of it in 3 too.
Part 2 is just the one SH that doesnīt have anything to do with Silent Hill itself, even 4 has more to do with it and that one isnīt even a real Silent Hill Game ;)
But thatīs not the point. My point is, that for me, SH2 was really boring. I didnīt like the story, I really thought there was something great coming along the way, as People around the net made me believe all those years.
But there wasnīt. James killed his wife for one reason or another, thatīs really all there is to it.
Sure, there are some monsters he might imagine, maybe he imagines the other four human beings as well, maybe not.
But none of that gets any spotlight in the game, apart from the Maria-aspect, which in the end didnīt make any sense either. Eddy is not important, Angela is not important though I thought she was, the annoying girl is mostly just that, annoying and has one rather stupid thing to add to the whole story... (correct me if Iīm wrong though, itīs not like I donīt WANT to get the story, I just get the impression that there is nothing to get).
Wow, Iīm really ranting on the game. That was never my intention actually but the more I think about the Story, the less I like it, itīs just so...so...meaningless compared to the other Silent Hill games, maybe thatīs why so many people liked it, because itīs just about some insignificant lad and his insignificant deeds that have no impact on anyone but himself. Itīs simple and bland.
Oh, and Pyramid-Head? I actually thought he was supposed to be a key-figure in the game or the story. But again: Nope, he has no meaning at all, just another enemy. First thereīs one and you think "oh, he must be important". Then thereīs three in the end, one vanishes and the other ones kill themselves and give you two eggs that for some reason open a door.
Maybe Iīm just really lazy, but does any of that have ANY meaning at all? Is it supposed to be symbolic? Are the P-Heads supposed to be a figment or rather an aspect of Jamesī mind in all of this? And even if so, there is NO evidence for that at all in the game, which makes me rather sad.
Anyway, this is long enough as it is. Itīs not my intention to bash the game so much but I just canīt help it, sorry about that :\.

The two eggs are symbolic of James' murders; red for Eddie, new blood, and brown for Mary, old blood.
The symbolism isn't really hard to pick up on, here.
Pyramid Head is definitely a letdown, though. He shows up something like 4 times and it's the easiest thing in the world to take absolutely no damage from him.

Guess I WAS just lazy then ;) Still kind of a strange way of presenting the whole thing. Ah, whatever, enough of Silent Hill 2, I´m happy for those who like it. My favorite is still 4 I guess thanks to the awesome feeling of dread it creates. Only Fatal Frame 3 came close to that as far as I remember...

oh shit, I guess they did explain it. That kind of pisses me off >:. That's probably the difference between opinions. I'm not interested in whatever they've concocted to explain the town "It was Alessa, she's psychic!" Hell I don't want anything in the series explained to well. I like that they leave everything disjointed and expect you to put them together.
The games twist is not that big of a surprise. You'd probably have figured it out before it happened even without it being spoiled. What it does is completely change how we see James, everything said and done is thrown into a completely different light. I was 14 when I first played this game which makes it easier to admit I teared up when you walk down that long hallway. You hear how his relationship with Mary was like near the end, James was trapped in a complicated emotional scenario and it did not end well for him. Silent Hill 2 is sadder than it is scary.

Youīre right about one thing: Itīs hard to appreciate certain games if you play them "later". The classic example would be Final Fantasy 6 and 7. If you never played them back then and play them now, you tend to say "What, THATīS it?" Itīs some kind of you-had-to-be-there-thing.
Iīll try to explain my relation to Silent Hill a little differently:
I really love alternate, twisted realities, compact pockets of chaos, chunks of hell, glimpses of the screaming insanity of the warp, the mind-shattering horror of the void as it thickly drips into our normal reality and brings with it the beauty of total insanity (I canīt describe it much better in english). Maybe thatīs why I like the original premise of Silent Hill so much, it has this glimpse of madness in it that Silent Hill 2 lacks. 2 on the other hand HAS a certain comfiness (can you say that?) to it, since James really isnīt phased all that much by anything he encounters. His sadness and denial weigh heavier than Silent Hill itself, which is impressive.
Though I was dissappointed that James was really just a sad slob in denial rather than...I donīt know, I just thought his state had more of an impact to the town, if you know what Iīm trying to say.

I think I understand what you're saying, sort of like some immense Lovecraftian horror that once seen cannot be unseen. Personally, I like to think of Silent Hill as more like a phenomenon where a person's psychological disposition has a physical effect on the reality of the town. If a person with a good state of mind came to Silent Hill I imagine they'd find it very pleasant. Basically the town is just an unthinking psychological mirror of those inhabiting it. Everybody in Silent Hill 2 is self-hating so naturally they're treated poorly but notice they don't try to leave. Unlike other Silent Hill's there are no huge gaps in the road, James is free to leave but refuses to do so.
This interpretation breaks down with the other SH's but that's okay. I love all the Silent Hill's except for Homecoming (I haven't played Shattered Memories yet).

The town reflecting the visitor´s mind-thing is about what I think as well. When it´s in its "normal" state at least.
And imagine how much fun "Daisies wonderful vacation in Silent Hill" would be as a game :D

Silent Hill 2 is essentially a non-terrible Halloween 3 of the SH series. Well, it was until SH4. It's just a really solid stand-alone game. The town is the antagonist and everything that James sees is a manifestation of his own guilt. You can even explain the scantily-clad nurses in that way, even though they pop up in every other game in the series. It's all about confronting one's demons, and that's what every character trapped in the town is doing. I agree with Hadas in that it's cool that there's no stupid child-God or anything over the top like that.
While we're on the subject... I didn't mind SH4 as much as some people seem to. It was pretty shitty compared to what I'd played in the series before, but it's not entirely unplayable based on its own merits.

Huh, that's kind of weird. I played some SH2 just the other day. Granted, it was only for an hour or so. After reading some of your comments, I can definitely back up the comment regarding empty buildings with too many doors.
But, as said, I only played a small part of the game.

Left 4 Dead.
I like it less than I did when I was playing the demo. If any of you chumps want to hit me up, I haven't played Blood Harvest at all yet.
Versus mode is fucking bad. Playing as the Infected is like being the Spy in TF2 if you couldn't cloak or disguise, and if backstabbing people didn't result in an instant kill. And if you made horrendous amounts of noise while walking everywhere. And could only use the butterfly knife against a team of Soldiers.

New version of Brawl Plus came out the other day. Ness got a nice set of tweaks, though his Lightning is a lot faster, so I have to get used to the new timing. Still, he's got way more options now.

Is Nintendo re-releasing Brawl with tweaks every year like Street Fighter now, or are you doing some dirty Homebrew shit
Edit: so I looked at Brawl+, and I was intrigued until the "stage freeze" option came up, along with "Rumble Falls is the Online Waiting Room: When picking Rumble Falls in offline VS. mode only, it will be replaced with the Online waiting room stage." Is this backed in any way by Dylan TNGA? :lol
I hope the complete removal of items is present in the changelist, I can't stand Super Smash Bros not being completely free of pesky random elements!

Items are still something you set yourself. Rumble Falls is ass, though. I leave almost all of the stages turned on, but I'll let fucking Electroplankton be turned on before I play that stage. It's just not fun. Stage freeze is also optional, though off by default. Which is good, because Summit fucking rocks :rock
The only major changes to the game are:
-slightly faster. Not immediately noticeable
-no tripping (unless by banana, or Dedede's forward smash, which now shakes the stage)
-you keep momentum after you jump, which was in Melee. In Brawl, jumping slows you down. This is mostly to help Capt. Falcon have more control of the stage and recover better. Helps Yoshi a lot too, actually, since his Up B becomes viable.
-some changes to the move sets (i.e. Ganon's down B in the air gives him his second jump back, Lucario can attack after using his Up B, Mario's Fludd has more knockback for both the opponent and Mario if he's in the Air).
-no bullshit chain grabbing from assholes like Falco.
-custom skins (Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtle! :rock)
-unlimited time for replays
-the pause camera can go anywhere now
I think it's a lot more fun. Falcon, Ganondorf, Yoshi, Link, and Sonic probably got the biggest improvements. And of course Metaknight got toned down. They really didn't add anything stupid like wavedashing or whatever. And since it runs off of cheat codes, you can still boot up the game normally and play regular Brawl.
At least try it out before you knock it. It's not as retarded as you think. At least, not as retarded as Brawl Minus. But I kinda want to play that...

Heh, so I spent around 2 days downloading the Star Trek Open Beta-Client, and Darkvare was nice enough to provide me with a key, thanks again for that :)
But guess what? The key is just for the closed beta, the open beta needs a new one :(
Let´s try this Amazon-preorder-get-the-key-then-cancel-your-order-again-thing...
Apart from that and REALLY wanting Mass Effect 2, I just can´t play much right now somehow...tried Fallen Earth for a few hours but as it seems there´s only one way to play that game and I don´t like MMOs that have one golden way and many inferior ones.
