I have tuesdays and thursdays off this semester, and when I wake up on those days, I kinda lay in bed for a bit and wanna play video games but I'm too fucking lazy/tired to get up and go play xbox on my good tv. I'm thinking I should put my wii in my room and start playing some virtual console games again :O

I downloaded link to the past, harvest moon, and a couple others without beating em (on VC!) and that just seems wrong somehow.

I repaired my PSP this afternoon after royally fucking it up and ordering replacement parts from Hong Kong sometime last December. Got back to playing Dissidia, because it's still rad. I really want the US release, though. I have no idea what half of this shit does.

Also, I never knew Everyday Shooter came out for PSP, which is awesome. I'm really diggin' it.

Man, Zero Mission blows your mind when you finally beat the Mother Brain. I won't spoil it, but it totally flips the game on its head at that point.

I liked the new areas, and the totally reworked bosses were pretty rad. Super Metroid is still better, but ZM was pretty close.

I got crash commando 2 days ago and it's basically team fortress 2 and soldat combined.
I haven't really gotten into it since i played for an hour after i bought it and didnt even turn on my microphone
Even the text seems like its taken from TF2.
I also kind of want magic ball , it's pretty much breakout or arkanoid but you can play it co-op online with voice chat, 10 dollars seems a bit too much for it

I know someone who took three months to beat it.

...ahem.

Someone came over my house today with some drum master game for PS2. It's this incredibly japanese game where you hit this drum controller with two sticks and a cartoon drum dances around and shouts at you.

Shit's fucked up. But I liked being able to beat the shit out of a drum and not feel bad for hitting too hard. I have a habit of getting carried away with Rock Band.

Finally, FINALLY, beat Persona 4. 68 Hrs and 40Min, about 10Hrs less than the previous game.

I can't decide which I like more. P4 improves so much of the combat and social aspects (actual role playing?! In a videogame?!), but it dropped the ball so many times (two hour introduction?!). I liked P3's characters way more, but I was really sad at the end of P4 too.

I didn't know they still released PS2 games. Atlus :). I might look into this.

Heh, no, his name is Vince Offer, and he's a Z-List actor. He's selling Shamwow and other kitchen stuff to pay for a new film. I saw some clip of a movie he was in, which involved dropping a baby into a pool. That should give you an idea of what his resume is composed of :P Got into a huge fight with the Church of Scientology too.

Anyways, yea, Atlus still releases PS2 games. Even the Gamestop clerk was confused when I reserved it. Atlus is the king of niche games. The problem is that their games are hard to find after a few months. If you look into either of the Persona games, you should get them soon.

Speaking of which, I started playing P3FES, because I never explored any of the bonus stuff. Anyone ever get all fuzzy inside when they pick up an old game? I love playing an old RPG and seeing everyone I know. It's like seeing old friends, except you get to kill shit :D

Someone told me that in RE on the Wii you dont get to move your character. The game moves you forward when you are done shooting all the enemies in an area, like the old arcade shooters. Is this true for RE4? Or were they perhaps talking about the Umbrella Chronicles?

I agree tryign to play tekken or anything else on the psp sucks cause the litle nub isnt worth shit, but i was goin through my old games the other day and found a little gem of a title called Legend of Legaia for the old Playstation, it came out before FF7 and it works pretty well actually...yeah the graphics are suckish...and the storyline is the same as almost every other rpg, in that your a young boy you has to fght off raping rabbits...or soemthing like that, but the combat is cool, instead of just pressing an atack button you input different commands like a fighting game, like left, left, right, left, up, down. And in you input a special sequence you get a special move different for each character....even though you only get 3 characters its still cool if only for the combat alone.

I hired Resistance 2 to play though with a friend the other day. Turns out it doesn't really have a co-op campaign mode like the first but the co-op is pretty cool anyway. It's like a weird amalgam of HALO and World of Warcraft. I guess the only problem with it is that it's difficult with only 2 players as you need at least one of each class (medic/sniper/heavy) to do the harder parts of the levels.
We took it online and it's much better. With a full server (8 players) you get an insane number of enemies and really need to work together when the shit hits the fan.

I had a breif play of the single-player campeign and don't really like it. Kind of reminds me of Blacksite:Area 51 or something :/

Played Metal gear Solid 4. I understand now why Hideo Kojima never attempts to tie up loose ends, his terrible at it. Explanations for past questions are presented in long, unbroken monologues which are extremely unsatisfying. I'm not sure if it's the way they're presented or whats being presented or both but whenever some aged character starts off I have trouble staying focused on them.

It's weird how much screen time Kojima gives to all these secondary characters, I hardly remember most of them and I certainly don't care about any of them. I'll admit I always get a few chuckles out of Otacon's whimpering and Ocelot is alot of fun but my main focus is always been Snake and, I don't know, it seemed to me like he got kind of shafted.

The games main function is to be an absolute conclusion to the series. Kojima makes the story more and more convoluted so every character can be addressed and have a happy, or totally final, ending but Snake cannot have a happy ending, he is going to die. This was the only part of the game to succeed in bringing out any pathos in me but in the end Kojima turned gutless.

I thought that he was going to do something like when you send The Boss onward and upward in the third one, Snake would place the gun in his mouth and then you, the player, would be forced to pull the trigger. Instead you have all that nonsense with Big Boss - longest last words scene since Buzz Buzz with almost the same humorous effect - then it's over and that really left me wanting. Snake is going to die, but it'll happen off screen and probably of old age and that's the conclusion were given to a series we'd invested alot of time and attention to.

What a fucking buzz kill.

Castlevania Chronicles was a fun remake of the original. The Dracula X Chronicles was pretty good too, despite being on a shitty platform. And Judgement... the less said the better.

And you can unlock Alucard in Dawn of Sorrow.

OoE's areas are too short with very little secrets to find. It is the best metroidvania, though. Who knew it'd only take 13 years to make another game that's nearly as good as SotN.

Yeah when I played it offline the medic and spec-ops combo seemed to be the only one that really worked.

Retro Game Challenge came out on the DS. It's cute, but it's still old games, so you have to be in the mood to play games that are dated in every sense of the word, from graphics to controls (why am I stuck with only two directions of movement in a shoot-em-up? Are four directions too much to ask?)

I heard there are only 5 games and 3 sequels in RGC, which is kinda disappointing, but one of them is supposed to be a full-blown RPG, so that's kinda neat.

Guitar hero 2 wasn't bad, but I got sick of that shit real quick. PDZ was the first game I got for my 360 and while it wasn't amazing, it wasn't bad either. I still have no use for it now though. I kinda wanna finish fear, but I'm not gonna be feeling bad about trading that in either.

Yea, basically.

I mean, if you just want to play the damn games, it's fine, but if you're playing a PS3 on a good TV (why wouldn't you?) then the PS2 games won't look as nice as a PS2 with the right cables.

Which is kinda stupid, really. But whatever, I got a PS3 to play PS3 games, not PS2 games, so it doesn't bother me none.

Speaking of which, played more Valkyria Chronicles. I wish it had some kind of multiplayer, because I think this might knock Fire Emblem 7 off the top of my list of favorite strategy games. The mission variety is really solid, and the story's finally starting to be not stupid.

Yea, but I used a bullshit strategy where I threw all of the enemies on a floating block and stabbed at them for a good 30 minutes while they drained their SP healing themselves.

Then for the actual boss, I had four mages running Braveheart every turn to keep Etna's Atk at 2X, otherwise I couldn't do more than 0 damage. I shouldn't have stood a chance.

I can't repeat the strategy for the next uber boss. There's no floating islands to trap her on :(

Also related to awesome Capcom games, I'm gonna start up the Phoenix Wright games that I skipped over. I liked the first one, and Apollo Justice was really good, so I figured I'd play the inbetween games.

Aladdin is actually probably one of their best games. Amazing gamplay and kick ass layouts.

Reason being why I pointed out Capcom is because their ability to make something good from what little limitations their provided with, such as making kick ass NES games. So yes, they barely make shitty games.

Some other amazing games the have are of course Megaman as well as Darkwing Duck, Ghosts n Goblins, Bionic Commando, and Little Nemo.

You understand how everting works right? Here's a badly drawn picture to show you where you can evert during the first part of level three.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v444/foxamess/hellp.jpg
(red dots are where you evert)

Also two more things: First, you can jump off enemies to reach higher areas, jump off, not just bounce off. You need to do this a few times in order to collect all the gems and once to actually progress through the game. Second, you do get something for collecting all the gems. You'll notice when you get to the last level there's a counter floating at the beginning of the level, you evert under it once you get all the gems.

Phoenix Gamma
Mar 3rd, 2009, 06:36 PM

King Hadas
Mar 3rd, 2009, 08:09 PM
Getting those last gems is a monstrous pain in the ass. Basically you have to evert "good" until you can walk through clouds and then you have to evert "bad" until those blocks crumble under your feet (or you can do it the other way around). What makes it difficult is every time you die blocks you crumbled or knocked gems out of go back to normal.

bought re5 today and played it for about 3 hours online will my friend. wonderful experience!

and i beat dead space today and am proud to say that i'm returning it tomorrow because it was absurdly repetitive, isaac was an awful character, and it had the zero G element, which was amazing and extremely fun, but they fucking ruined it

I was wondering when Europe was gonna get it :D

Near the end of Valkyria Chronicles. I love mowing down foot soldiers with my tanks. And the class upgrades made me replay a few skirmishes for experience. I can't wait for the DLC.

Yeah, it´s been almost a year since you got it in the US, right? Anyway, I´m just glad we got it at all. Now they just have to port Persona 1 and 2 for the PSP and I´m a really happy guy.

We only got P4 in December :X

Also, P1 and both P2 games are playable through popsloader or whatever the hell my PSP does when I load modified PSX games. I tried the translation of Innocent Sin, but the combat was awkward :(

Anyways, Henry Hatsworth came out, and that game is pretty funny. I wish the puzzle and the platforming were more simultaneous, like The World Ends With You, but I think this is probably a more casual title. Either way, it's pretty good.

Someone also reccommended me this Animal Crossing knock-off for the DS, called Enchanted Folk. Instead of running around and collecting clothes, money and furnature, the game lets you do that and learn spells (a student used a fart spell on me randomly :( ) and take part in different quests and shit. And the campus is pretty big and has lots of shit to do.

I'm kinda impressed by how much stuff is in it, even if the game is too fucking cute for its own good. If anyone here actually likes Animal Crossing, you might like Enchanted Folk.

P1 is being ported to the PSP this... June, I think? It's getting a retranslation and the Snow Queen quest has been re-added, which will only make sense to you if you're a giant faggot into sorta-obscure RPGs like I am oh god

For P2's combat, change the Battle Mode to Single. That way you get to choose new actions every turn instead of having it just cycle endlessly. I don't know why it isn't set that way to default.

thread-relevant content: I am playing Alundra.

I finally beat all the planets in Arcade in Super Stardust HD and wow, what a fucking frustrating game.

It's 5 phases, and if you lose at any point, you have to repeat all of those phases even if you reach the boss, and i was playing on EASY MODE!
I also played it co op and my friend liked it but fuck, i hate games that frustrate me like prince of persia's broken combat system

So I finally beat Valkyria Chronicles, meaning I'll finally shut up about it :D That game seriously ups the ante at the end; parking tanks on inclines to aim high up? Luring a dreadnought through a minefield to stop it in its tracks? Hijacking a battleship?

Man, why are other strategy games all about fighting on the same grids? This is the kind of stuff the genre needs. Damn developers and their copy paste formulas :(

Now that I put enough hours into my PS3, I think I'm gonna buy Pikmin and Madworld when I get my paycheck tomorrow. I haven't tried Pikmin on Gamecube, so I'll have some fun with that. I also reccommend GTA:China Town Wars to any DS owners here. All the cool shit from the 2D and 3D games, plus this neat drug dealing system; a fun way to kill time and teach children the art of selling dope.

re5 is done, doing it again in co-op, but not online, in veteran mode. mercenary mode is so fucking hectic i love it

made it out of the vault in fallout 3, then in megaton killed the sheriff. later reloaded because it turns out that the people of megaton don't like when someone kills their sheriff because he just wants to wear his hat. otherwise, making my way to... can't remember the name, but killed my first super mutant (or brute, fuck i can't remember right now) and it was quite a challenge. i feel like this game presents itself as super complicated and doesn't really introduce you very well into all of it's open endedness, which at first turned me off, but now i think i pretty much understand everything (except my radiation reading or whatever the fuck that is in the top right)

oh, and my game got stuck when i went to take the GOAT so i had to read online that this is a fucking bug that still hasn't been fixed >:

edit: that that that that that that

But i do really like all the modes css has.

I bought Watchmen: The End Is Nigh, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, and Crash Bandicoot Warped yesterday off of the PSN. All badass. Watchmen was better than I thought, though it's still monotonous. I didn't hold that against it, though. It is a beat'um-up. It's actually very pretty.

It's actually better than I remember. I wasn't too crazy about it, but I'm kinda diggin' it now. Some of the scenes remind me a little of Mother 3.
