hahaha oh god I completely regret trying to take this game seriously after Palumpolum
The sad part is that you can see a great story trying to get out, but ultimately floundering and suffocating underneath awful writing. It feels like they turned in the first draft of a script and then nobody bothered to send it back for editing.
Shit also got fucking hard; the mid-game trash mobs are capable of completely flattening you if you don't take buffs, status effects and staggering serious as a heart attack. Final Fantasy hasn't been this mean since the NES, it's wonderful.

Still playing Day Z. It's a wonderful study of human behaviour. For those of you, who don't know what i'm talking about, Day Z is a free modification for ArmA II. It's in alpha stage still, but completely playable and has skyrocketed the sales of ArmA II.
The idea of the mod is, that you have about 250 square kilometers of post-zombie apocalypse world to explore. If you ever played any of the Stalker games, it pretty much looks like that. There are zombies everywhere and they are hella dangerous. The only goal you have is to survive. You scavenge for supplies and weapons, and if you are lucky, you might even find a vehicle. Everything in the game is made in the terms of realism. You can brake your bones, bleed out, pass out from dehydration, panic etc. and day and night change in real time. You don't have a map of the area, but you can find a compass or even a gps to help you. You can hunt animals and build a fire to cook the meat. Of course, building a fire at night is risky business. It attracts nearby zombies, but more importantly, other humans.
Even though zombies are dangerous, you eventually learn how to avoid them. Humans are another story. The game does not have a global chat (thank god) and there are no name tags hovering on top of the players, so you have no idea if a player is aggressive toward you or not. I usually choose to hide, if I see another player and he/she has not seen me yet. On some servers, there are organized "killing squads", that move in teams and their goal is to hunt other players and steal their shit. You are fucked if you run into these and they see you. There are friendly players too, of course, but I wouldn't trust anyone. Once, a player handed me water and let me stay in a barn he was occupying. Then shot me in the back of the head once I was comfortable.
Highly recommended game, even though it still buggy as hell. You sometimes get stuck in narrow doors, zombies can sometimes see you through walls and the inventory system is just awful. But it still alpha, so it's to be expected.

The Secret World. For an early access-peroid, there´s a lot of people around already. I don´t think, the game will last more than a year before going F2P but it´s pretty okay or even good. Realtime-Battles, interesting world and kind of creative quest-design for a change.
Wanna access the laptop of an Agent fronting as a normal Businessman but you don´t know his Password, only a hint? Look him up on the corporate website (which is on the normal net, the game has an ingame-browser) and put together the clues you have. There´s a lot of these quests along with stealth and dexterity-quests too, it´s pretty refreshing.
You can also mix an match all powers in the game since there´s no classes (but there ARE levels, no matter what the Devs claim) which is nice.
Negatives...Zones are seperated by lenghty loadingscreens, some quests are still buggy and for a game that values it´s outfits so much, there´s ONE clothing store in the game and you can´t even get a fucking tie there. I´m an Illuminati, alright? The others may be powerhungry partyanimals, but I wear a fucking suit in the field. Really now.

Persona 2; never played any of these before. I'm glad they give you the option of just talking to monsters until they go away because A) the battle system is fucking awful and B) the conversations are generally hilarious. Shame you can't do it for boss battles.

I think Emu told me in this thread that there's a way to make Persona 2's combat less bad. I didn't try it because Persona 3 Portable came out a little later and that game is way better.
If you want to play a good Persona game, either play the PSP version of Persona 3 (or the FES version if you don't have a PSP), or play Persona 4. Your mileage may vary on Persona 4 depending on how much you can tolerate Slice-of-Life bullshit and a really slow story (it literally has a two hour introduction before you get into the first proper battle. Not "exaggeration literally", I mean "literally literally".) Persona 3 is my personal favorite, but bought all three versions so I'm kind of a P3 whore.
I think I'm gonna play Arkham City. I never bought it and my coworker and I got in a big debate about the Nolan Batman films and now I just want to hear Mark Hamill laugh :<

That DS remake of Final Fantasy 4 is fucking awesome. I didn't really care for this game before because the SNES version was kind of a trainwreck, but this shit's easily in my top three FFs; it's basically the same game with everything that was initially wrong given the boot or reworked to be less shitty (the script especially is no longer shallow Engrish tripe). It's gorgeous and the voice acting is great, the combat isn't patronizingly easy any more, the remixed music sounds fantastic, and shit even the math minigame for Rydia's retarded new Eidolon is fun.
I'd say I'm surprised by Squeenix suddenly remembering how to make good games, but it turns out this was outsourced to some company called Matrix Software. huh.

I got Dragon's Dogma a couple weeks ago, and I can't stop playing it.
Complaints include the awful quest system, wherein 95% of the quests are kill/gather quests, the lack of a modern fast travel system (spending a fortune on ferrystones is bs), and Capcom's stilted approach to storytelling that makes all the characters seem like robots and psychopaths.
The thing that's just started to bug me, though, is the companion AI. Even a simple ME-style command wheel would have been appreciated when my mage continues to put fire enchantments on my weapons while barking that fire is useless against an enemy we've fought maybe 30 times before.
The best came during one late-game battle where we took on a dragon: I had kitted out my mage servant with a bunch of potent ice spells for just such an occasion, but he seemed to be having some trouble pulling one off. So, I and the other two had to peck away at the thing because he kept putting fire enchants on our weapons. Then, all of a sudden, he decided to take his own advice and fire off one of the big ice spells I gave him. Half the dragon's health instantly disappeared, and the other half went a second later, and I sat there wondering why a mage who keeps asking me how he performed could be such a worthless fuck at times.
I guess I'm just glad the game is like Dead Rising, in that it starts off pretty tough, but you can level your way through the toughness. Otherwise, shitty AI might be a bigger problem.

It does get better over time but the Mages never get the buffing right which is why I mostly played classes that were not reliant on external buffs, like the Mystic Knight or the Magic Archer (best class imo).
Sure the game has some flaws but I can't remember when I last played somerhing that had 'Adventure!' written over it like that.
...okay, well Dark Souls, of course. But other than that...Dragons Dogma is still my Game of the year, easily. I don't think Borderlands 2 will be able to take the title away from DD...and X-com...I'll have to play that first ;)

Played through Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. A decently-fun Metroid-style game that you can tear through in about 3.5 hours, and then never play again.
Then went for Hack Slash Loot. Imagine a Rogue-like game where all you can do is attack enemies and pickup individual pieces of loot. No leveling, no skills, no inventory, no healing, no strategy whatsoever.
It might be the only time I've regretted paying $3.50 for a game.

You are right. There is a lot of walking. Or driving, if you manage to obtain a vehicle. But what the videos don't show you is the atmosphere and the feeling of "being there". As survival games go, this is the shit. The learning curve is kinda steep and you are going to live for maybe 20 minutes at a time at first. But once you get the hang of it, there is no going back.
For those intrested, basic tips: trust no one, deer stands and barns are the places to loot in the beginning, Lee Enfield is also known as the "dinner bell" so careful with it, never run when standing up if near a village/town, avoid open fields, avoid airfields, learn the horrible inventory system, study this map http://dayzdb.com/map

As for the playing in a group part, you have no way of knowing where the other players are, so you'll need Mumble/Ventrilo/Skype whatever for communication. Then just set up a meeting point. To navigate, just alt+tab from time to time and check the map I posted earlier. You can find a map in the game as well, but it is pretty rare.

Escape from Butcher Bay. I was all expecting Thief with guns and shit, but really, this is just a shooter where you can turn the lights out and hide; sometimes there are boring shitty hub worlds full of lame sidequests to do when the game feels like it doesn't want to be played for a while, too. I do love the atmosphere in this game though, Butcher Bay looks and feels like a totally legit fucking hardass prison ought to.
Also playing Street Fighter 3 a shitload. I like Makoto, hate Ken and Akuma, and have a strict policy of disconnecting whenever someone decides to be a fucking ass and pick Yun. Also, for everyone talking up Chun Li as the best character in the game, I've never seen anyone using her even once online. I know it can't be an honor thing because the people who play this game are smug fucking sacks of shit. I've never seen players stuck so far up their own asses as the ones in this game. Example: http://www.gamespot.com/street-fighter-iii-third-strike-online-edition/forum/rank-0-60474860/ A completely innocent question thread devolves into trolling and youtube comment style dick-waving in literally four posts just because one guy felt the conversation had a dire shortage of smacktards.
This must be something that just inevitably happens with fighting games, MK9 and Skullgirls had people like this too. In Skullgirls they'd make unranked rooms marked as "Practice" or "Beginner," i.e. the lowest difficulty settings, then immediately bust out 50-hit combos on the first poor newbie schlub who wandered in trying to find someone to train with; there are only about five people who still play this game because of shit like that. People with thousands of matches under their belts will hang out in noob lobbies in MK9 and spam challenges at people, or hold King of the Hill matches where they sit in the champ seat beating the shit out of everyone in turn. Thankfully, unlike Skullgirls, that game's matchmaking system wasn't designed by a retarded bonobo and actually lets you see their win/loss ratio before a fight starts, so you can tell them to get fucked if they come knocking.
The only possible reason to fight people who are thousands of matches worth of experience beneath you is being a complete fucking cunt; I don't see how you could gain anything from one-sided squash matches other than the ability to say "I was an enormous prick to someone today," so I guess that's what they're after. Basically people who play fighting games are Kefka, without the charm.

That's why the AI exists and has varying levels of difficulty! Or, you could, you know, practice on people who are at your level, since they're who you're going to be employing these strategies against anyway. Using novice players trying to get into the game as essentially practice dummies is insulting, alienating, unnecessary, and, in fact, a pretty massive dick move. It's like using 5-year-olds as target practice; it's not gonna make you any better at tactical firearm combat, they can't even fight back. They're not mannequins, they're people trying to enjoy the game like you, but you don't give a shit because they're "just noobs" from where you're standing.
Maybe I'm not at the same HIGH LEVEL PRO LEVEL as you are, but when I want to try out new shit in Third Strike I wail on a training dummy until I've got the motions down, then get into a ranked match and start doing it for real, learn by trial and error. Sure, I'll get my ass kicked for a while, but that shit builds character and you'll sure as fuck know what not to do when it's over.
I think I'm probably doing something fundamentally wrong by playing to have fun though. This game is really fun and I don't really care whether I win or lose as long as my fights are close as shit; when either of us has an equal possibility of winning a fight, when we're both learning each other's strategies on the fly and adapting to circumvent them, that's what makes it exciting. Getting shut out by some tourney prick who's just looking for someone to practice his infinites on, or doing likewise to someone who downloaded the game an hour ago, that's just boring and frustrating to me.

I've been playing Persona 4 Arena.
It's both the easiest and hardest fighting game I've ever played. All the specials are quarter circles (with one charge character), but there's so much fucking stuff to know. Like, every character has a sweep (crouch and A+B), a launcher (standing A+B), a dragon punch (B+D), a roll (A+C) a hop (crouch and A+C) a grab (C+D), two kinds of bursts (ACD), and that's not even counting shit like status effects (like, actual RPG statuses, like poison and paralyze and rage. I think there's like 8 of them).
Once you actually learn that shit it's really fun, but the barrier of entry is fucking weird. If you're good at combos and want a really strategic fighter, P4A is super intense, and the tournaments so far have been pretty insane.

Planescape Torment is hands down one of the best games ever created and that almost exclusively because of the writing. Sure, the gameplay is okay but nothing special. Itīs the world, the story that makes it such a timeless classic :)
Not classics but Iīve tried out Sleeping Dogs and Darksiders 2 yesterday, both really really good. Iīm especially suprised by Sleeping Dogs. If you have ANY love for Hong Kong Action Cinema (think Hard Boiled, etc) in your heart, you will love this game. I plays good, the characters are nice, the game sets the right mood, Hong Kong feels great, even though the map is much smaller than your typical GTA.
Darksiders 2 on the other hand, while playing really really great seriously botches its own opening. Now I know youīre supposed to play the first one first (and I did) but the game almost seems to forget that it had a predecessor.
Itīs like "Yeah, thereīs War and he must prove his innocence but Death tries the same so letīs just follow him now, ok?" It just throws you in there, strands you on the first (and hopefully not only) world and letīs you figure the rest out yourself. Players that skipped the first Game will be very lost in the beginning.
It also doesnīt help that Death doesnīt narrate what heīs doing, I kinda imagined he would do that.
Still, itīs a VERY good game. Takes the strengths of the first one and build on them. The loot-system is satisfying, you have shops and even a Townportal, the levels are bigger, the controls are tighter, Death has more moves and way more weapons than War and apparently the game is also quite a bit longer than the first one.

Gaping Maw looked cool but yeah, his attack patterns were really simple. I fucking hated that red bridge dragon. I wasted a lot of arrows and time trying to kill him before I realized he was healing himself and I wasn't doing enough damage to kill him.
Did you guys notice that if, after you died, you turned your system off while the game was loading, when you turned it back on you'd respawn next to your bloodstain (dying during bosses respawns you right before the boss). This saved me alot of time against Bed of Chaos.

I started playing Dark Souls on PC. Kinda sucks cause I had to download a fanmade fix to make the game's resolution look right. Also you need to play with the gamepad because hoooly hell are the keyboard/mouse controls awful.
Just rang the first bell and now I'm kinda stumbling around right now in the forest-y place. I'm in pretty rough shape because I accidentally killed a merchant who could have sold me some better armor, so I'm still in my starting Knight armor. Also fuck the Gargoyle bosses. That was some bullshit.

Honestly, if you had a lot of trouble with the gargoyles, PREPARE TO DIE (get it?) a lot and get really angry, because they're pretty simple, comparatively speaking.
Gaping Dragon might've been the easiest boss, probably followed by the Taurus demon or maybe Sif. Really, once I figured out how to properly equip and upgrade my stuff--and got skilled at dodging and parrying--it seems like only the ridiculously overpowered guys gave me much trouble. Before that, though, the part of the game that I absolutely despised was the top of blight town or whatever the fuck. All of those falls, archers, and I had no fucking idea where to go. I didn't realize I could just skip that part until I'd sorta cheated my way to the bottom and found another exit, and THEN I just ran past everything in my ninja gear, trying to get to a bonfire before those fuckers with the poison blow guns got me.
Seriously, haaaated that entire section of the game.

Holy shit. I must have repressed that memory. I haven't been close to smashing a controller in years, but that shit was damn near impossible and I was on the verge of going nuts. I must've died about twenty times before I even got to the first guy. I think I eventually just decked myself out in stone armor and used that one big dude (Havel?)'s shield the entire way up. I don't recall even being able to just dash all the way up. The worst part was, dying meant having to go through all of the dudes on the fucking WAY to that spot, so if you fucked up there and didn't have enough health, forget about it.

No, those ninja guys were pussies; I'm talking about in the painting itself, where those big crow-men fly over from the towers and can gang up on you. One or two could be handled fairly easily, but it became a bit harder when I managed to piss off a murder of them.

Day Z is on hold, because of all the hackers, so I decided to play trough some games that have been gathering dust on my shelf. Moving alphabetically, Alpha Protocol was the first on the list. It's actually a really cool game. A bit like Deus Ex and I like the RPG elements. My character is a suave field agent who replies sarcastically to everything. Everyone hates him, and rightfully so.
Guitar Woman
Aug 30th, 2012, 07:17 PM
Played Day Z for the first time last night. After I spawned in Cherno and got run over by a pickup truck (>:) I called a few buddies up and we spent about 5 hours dicking around, raided the northwest airfield among other places, and I got a DMR out of it (:D). We only got into one firefight that entire time but it was intense as fuck, some guy started taking potshots at us from Cherno with an M4 and probably a thermal scope. That was definitely the highlight of the evening, because it sure as fuck wasn't fighting the 4000 glitchy, horribly programmed zombies that are fucking everywhere.
Is there any particular method you'd use to safely locate/sneak up on other players? From what I understand Cherno, Elektro and NW are complete deathtraps because everyone goes there, and I don't want to lose my gun before I put a few notches in the handle, so I was thinking I could just stalk up and down the coastline about 150 meters from the shore and look for people combing the beach for noobs to murder. Ideally I want to waste some bandits and get all of the loot; plus I'd be killing people who just kill other people on sight, and that's great because fuck those jerks, they hit me with a truck

The best way to find other players is to get thermal googles. They are very rare, so good luck with that. I'd say that on every server, about 70% of the players are either in Cherno/Elektro or at the large airport. Just use that to your advantage. For instance, the fire stations draw players like ants to a carcass, so just camp in a place where you have a clear shot at the tower windows. Hospitals and stores are other good places to watch out for. If you ask me, that's the asshole way of playing the game, so I don't personally do it.
The beach is really not a good way to find anything. No one cares about killing noobs, 'cause you only get a bandage and a box of painkillers.
If one is against killing other players, the best way to start a new game is to run into a Store and a Hospital and just grab whatever you can. You have nothing to lose at that point, so dying isn't much of a problem. After you have some medical supplies, food, bigger backpack and maybe even a weapon, just head north and loot deer stands and high value barns. After that, you should have a decent weapon and supplies for days.
There are some fixes on the way to remove some of the trolling and hopefully the hackers. They are not on every server, but the number of hackers is increasing. It is not uncommon to run into a player with the best weapons and godmode.

1. Buy ArmA II: Combined Operations (includes ArmA II & Operation Arrowhead add-on)
2. Install and run the game once
3. Install Beta Patch:
http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/How_to_install_DayZ#ARMA2_Beta_patch
4. Download and install Six Updader/Launcher
http://www.six-updater.net/p/download.html
5. Run Six Launcher, select a server and play.
Apparently, there is a way to download ArmA II Free, which is sort of a light version of ArmA, and buy just the Operation Arrowhead add-on. So in short, you can't pirate this.

The Mechromancer. It's not in the full game, but if you preordered it, you get it for free when it comes out a couple weeks later.
Apparently they called it "the girlfriend class" because it works for people who suck at FPSs so they don't feel left out of the game. Later, the designer who said that had to quickly recant his statement on account of people not liking "girlfriend" being used as a euphemism for sucking.

Going on the classics side of gaming here.
I had been playing Castlevania : Portrait of Ruin. The main reason I got it was to see how they work as a team, you have to control both if you want to succeed at certain parts. The other reason was the Orchestra .With many areas of the game where the theme of it changes like in the Dead Pyramid level .The team done pretty well in most series of the music like in Tortured areas,Dark Woods and Rich Corridors .It never sounds the same unless they want to sound original at certain areas. But we like to live in the past sometimes.

There's plenty of Asian stuff in the environments. Temples, markets, graveyards, etc. And the radio stations play some traditional Chinese music, along with what I assume is modern stuff. Plenty of kung fu movie stuff, too.

The main interaction with the enviroment are the Enviroment-moves you can pull off in fights. Just grab a dude and smash him into stuff. It starts harmless enough with windows, telephone-booths, things like that. As the game progresses and the story becomes more and more visceral, you actually seem to kill your enemies by throwing them onto spikes of shove their head into a circle saw (no gore though, it´s only implied that they might be dead).
And concering the asian enviroment...the game takes place in Hong Kong so...yeah, just look at pictures of the city and you know what the game looks like more or less. There´s a lot of places, the map is pretty expansive and feels very alive with a lot of pedestrians, merchants shouting and the occasional goons hanging around in dark corners.
There´s also some side-activities you can do like racing (of course and also of course, I ignored it completely), cock-fighting, gambling, Streetfighting-tournaments and the ever-present collectathon along with quite a few pieces of clothing you can get that gives you certain bonusses when you wear a specific set. Also you can run around and bust drug-deals, help civilians and do cases for the police.

Zero is...okay I guess, still I feel like he´s the char with the most restrictive skillset. He´s clearly built around slow-firing weapons with small magazines and the melee-attack (I still think it´s a weird design-decision to do anything with melee in a game that has no melee-weapons at all...which is why I never played with Brick in the first one).
So basically he´s a shotgun-sniper-pistol guy...huh...not THAT bad, I admit.

Beat it too. Itīs not your Zer0 that makes it hard, my Axton had a lot of problems too, even with his Über-Turret killing guys left and right. The Missile-Pods are fucking amazing.
But having played Zero to 18 and Axton to 31...Axton plays way better, at least for my kind of playstyle. I still canīt shake the feeling that all characters are good, all but Zero, his Actionskill just plain sucks, even though it can be used offensively and defensively.
Then again, maybe Axton is just a good beginner-character, I mean he can basically do everything and spec in at least three viable ways without gimping himself (Turret, Offense, Defense).
I went and beat the final boss again this morning just to see what heīd drop, I really like that gigantic loot-pinata that goes off after you kill the boss, canīt wait to see what Terramorphus looks like and what he drops :lol

Me too, I played the demo this morning. It does feel streamlined (though some reviewers apparently claim that it´s MORE complex than the original which is hard to imagine for me) but in a good way. Must-buy for me.
I also got Tekken TT2 on a whim and...I think it´s total crap. To me, Fighting Games have to be Pick up & play, newbies have able to get results. That is not the case with TTT2. Not only can´t newbies get results, they can´t even fucking PLAY the game because you first have to learn a shitload of stiff systematics instead of actually pulling off some moves. I´m immensly dissappointed, gonna get rid of the game as soon as possible. And it´s not like I´m too stupid to play games like these, I enjoy a good beat em up, but this...it´s just not right. Seems to depend a lot on the characters. I started playing with Leo but I couldnīt do too much with him.
Hwoarang or whatever his name is on the other hand is a lot easier to play because his combos are easier to pull off.
Concerning the direcrtions-thing, every character has different moves, depending what direction you push per button, eight moves per button sometimes.
Anyway, on to Tokyo Jungle. I played about an hour this morning, stupid PS3 took about 10hrs to download those puny 4GB...
Itīs interesting, thatīs for sure. Simple in the way it is designed, but then again, the life of an ordinary animal IS simple. Eat, stay alive, mate, die, thatīs it. And thatīs what you do in the game, you run around, you forage or hunt, depending on what type of animal you are, you do challenges (like "find the Chicken-Boss"...cracks me up :lol ), earn points with which you unlock new animals and you find hints on what happened and why all humans are gone.
Thereīs 2 modes, Survival and Story, sadly you have to find specific things in Survival to unlock Story-levels. Also sadly, you play the Story as a Pomeranian.
I...I hate little dogs, thereīs a reason we call them Fußhupe over here...(Foot Clown Horn...doesnīt translate well)...basically, you step on it and it honks for bit.
Anyway, itīs not the dogs fault I donīt like its specific breed (animal racism?). What else...there seems to be not too many areas, just around Shinjuku I think, along with some sewers and maintenance tunnels and I donīt think thereīs much difference between playing a Gazelle and a Doe but hey, the gameīs 10 bucks, Iīm not gonna complain.

I beat Dishonored yesterday. Took me somewhere in the realm of 9 1/2 hours being moderately stealthy and finding most of the runes and bone charms.
People really talked up the Ball and because of that I felt let down. It's not as good as anything in Hitman: Blood Money. The other level designs are really good, though. The Golden Cat stands out to me as one of my favorites, as are the last three levels or so. Really challenging.

Xcom and Dishonored.
Xcom is something I´ve been waiting for for years now, the industry needed a game like this, a almost perfect example how to implement classic elements into a modern game and do it right. It´s so much fun, I don´t even care that I fucked up after 6 hours and lost the game. Every single mission is so tense and writes its own little, highly dramatic story. So fucking good.
Dishonored kinda falls into the same lane for me, reminds me a lot of Thief and the first Deus Ex and that can never be a bad thing. I actually thought the first real level was tremendously easy but along came the second and BAM - I had to kill 4, 5 people just to get across the street. Gonna try that again later. Very good stuff. But 9 hours? I spent 7 just on the first level (Order HQ) alone, how can it be 9 hours long? How many Missions are there, three?

My review of Dishonored. To more enjoy Dishonored, you must first go back in time seven years and prevent yourself from playing Hitman: Blood Money.
OxBlood
Oct 12th, 2012, 06:06 AM
I don´t think Blood Money is a good comparison to Dishonored, they play totally different, their focus is different too.
Blood Money is the better Assassin-game of course, but then again, Dishonored is more like Thief, crossbred with Deus Ex and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
To me, the game would be pretty bad if you couldn´t teleport, it´s the defining move in the game. The thing that kinda breaks it for me is nightvision, or should I call it by its real name: Detective Vision, because that´s what it is. Get it, turn it on, never turn it off, see where everybody is, all the time. If you could only get two powers, those would be it, you don´t need any other feature in the game as it seems.
I´m also suprised how many ways to kill Corvo has when he´s cleary not supposed to kill anyone (it´s not as blatantly obvious as in Deus Ex but it rewards you for playing like that so in my book, that´s the preferable way to play the game).
I´m actually planning on doing a "kill everyone"-Playthrough with this, so basically the feeling is reverted with this game, as I would normally try not to kill anyone but that´s the way you play the game by default, at least I do. Sure, I HAVE killed enemies but...maybe 5 in the whole game so far and just because I was too lazy to load.

Back on RE6. Is it just me or does anyone else think its dumb that Ada has a grappling gun? Idk why this bothers me so much; they can have bio engineered zombies but not grappling guns? I guess I feel its just lazy writing or something. Oh and she has a flashbang twice as thick as her arm that she pulled out of her lightweight scarf that even billows indoors. :rolleyes
Still a super fun game though.
Fathom Zero
Oct 12th, 2012, 09:52 AM
Then it's a pretty shit assassin game yet, because I've already got one. People everywhere are crowing about how awesome the Ball level is when there about 10 NPCs, discounting the patrolling guards. It's very underwhelming when I know that there is a better "DISGUISE YOURSELF AND GO TO A CROWDED PLACE AND FIND THE TARGET" mission in another game. At the end of the Sokolov level in his glass palace, said "Wow, this feels exactly like a room out of Batman: Arkham Asylum." It's made all the worse when you get to use said Detective Vision.
And there is big difference to me between the Thief games and this one. Where I felt the intensity of having to jump out of a window to avoid someone or having to find a way to shimmy onto a roof to find a better way in, I can just teleport outside before someone turns around and back in again or leap up onto the roof with level 2 agility and blink. Everything requires far less effort, which begs the question to me "Why does it matter?" What is this offering me? It's certainly not challenge. I beat the entire game on the hardest difficulty, using non-lethal takedowns on every single target, killing maybe four people throughout the course of the game, and snagging almost every rune and bone charm.
I also unlocked every safe and completed most of the side missions. My favorite bit was the near the end with Granny Rags and Slackjaw. I knew that bitch was crazy.
All this in under 9 1/2 hours. Now I'm going back and ghosting the levels, which basically consist of me foregoing every single optional part and doing the mission as fast as possible, not bothering to set up elaborate traps or deal with sidequests or safes.
The world is well designed, but feels very sterile and unpeopled to me. I finished the game with feelings of ambivalence and wondered why anything mattered to me at all, not recounting a single "THIS WAS MY FAVORITE PART IN THE GAME" moment.
I'll never make a comparison between it and Deus Ex, though. They're nothing alike to me and there's certainly no feeling of "WHERE AIRDUCT?"

I can definitely respect the decision not to just throw everyone in; they already do that, to an extent (Sherry Birkin? Wesker's son?), and if they want to save a character or two for later, I see nothing wrong with that. Sheva only reminds me of horrible AI, so I'm not really missing her.

Some tips I found out.
If you dodge and lay on the ground you recover stamina quick. In quick time events you can use both analog sticks.
When climbing that fucking rope as leon chapter 5 hold both triggers down then alternate releasing them to climb fast without falling.
