All Hail Duke
Aug 1st, 2016, 01:48 AM
dr. no-meh
from russia with love-so much better
goldfinger-good, but the ending felt a bit anticlimactic
licence to kill-aside from the tanker scene and the happy felix ending, it was really solid
chinatown-great movie
revolutionary road-pretty good
All Hail Duke
Aug 8th, 2016, 03:42 AM
cowboy bebop the movie-not familiar w/ this franchise at all, but it was pretty decent
you only live twice-read the description that bond played dead and came back as an asian, so i figured an asian actor would play bond and would unmask and be connery again...instead he just put on a vulcan wig...other than that it was entertaining
the spy who loved me-not bad
live and let die-what a fucking goofy mess, jane seymour was nice eye candy though
mean streets-good, but underwhelming
the peanuts movie-it was fine
All Hail Duke
Sep 27th, 2016, 12:37 AM
anomalisa-really wanted to see this, then i saw it and wished i watched something else instead
All Hail Duke
Oct 27th, 2016, 01:15 AM

All Hail Duke

All Hail Duke
May 20th, 2017, 02:01 AM

All Hail Duke
Jun 2nd, 2017, 07:42 PM
prince of darkness-it was only the 2nd time i've seen it, didn't like it the first time, so i gave it a 2nd chance
it's just ok, the concept is better than the execution
most of the characters and a lot of the dialogue brought it down
All Hail Duke
Jun 8th, 2017, 12:47 AM
barton fink-thought it was pretty good
All Hail Duke
Jun 11th, 2017, 01:47 AM

I've been beefing up my collection and watching a ton of VHS lately:
Cobra - just as good as I remembered
Cape Fear - I liked it but had a hard time with Deniro's accent
Lost boys - Finally got around to seeing it, enjoyed it a lot.
Terminator and T2 - T2 is great
Detroit Rock City - so much fun in this movie, a true classic
All Hail Duke

All Hail Duke
Sep 2nd, 2017, 02:51 AM
westworld-a lot better than i thought it'd be
didn't really need a sequel (much like jurassic park), but they made one anyway
not much room for podracing
Tadao
Sep 2nd, 2017, 10:31 AM
you mean future world and all that? those are for sure important books and the movies aren't bad either.
If you mean the HBO tv series, that version of Westworld is awesome.
All Hail Duke
Sep 2nd, 2017, 03:35 PM
the movie, i don't have hbo
Tadao
Sep 2nd, 2017, 04:15 PM
Ah, I can see that the sequels to Westworld aren't that great movie wise, but there is a full over all story to the whole series. It's been a very long time since I've seen those or Planet of the Apes.
Where the Movie focus more on what can go wrong with AI, the HBO focuses more on what is moral and what does "alive" mean.
You should see The HBO Westworld. I put it off for the longest time, but I really really love it.
All Hail Duke
Sep 8th, 2017, 12:36 PM
IT pt.1-instead of being a faithful adaptation of the book, it's a cross between not another teen movie and krampus with parts of the book very loosely adapted sprinkled in here and there
it's a john hughes movie with cgi jump scares
if you like shitty modern horror like paranormal activity, you'll probably like this
richie and eddie were the best parts of the movie
All Hail Duke
Sep 10th, 2017, 11:25 AM

All Hail Duke
Dec 16th, 2017, 01:39 AM
disney's 3rd shitty star wars movie-it wasn't a rip off of empire, it ripped off all 3 in the same movie, and did it all poorly
shit villains (especially the obnoxious, worse than hayden lead and fake palpatine)
shit heroes (especially the robotic (and let's be honest, totally is a mary sue) lead actress)

Any y'all see Annihilation?
It's got a little of everything going for it. Really good unsettling tone, gorgeous sets and setting, really strong cast, shades of Stalker(both the movie and a little bit here and there of the game)
Tadao
Feb 26th, 2018, 03:54 PM
For some reason I thought Annihilation was a straight to VOD movie. I have heard meh things about it, so I'll wait till RedLetter Media say something about it.

Meanwhile, 3 months later
well, capitan, i tracked down a copy of the movie and tried to watch it about a week ago
it didn't work, like at all
the video was choppy and the audio was delayed by several minutes
so i'll try again at some point
i did watch tadao's movie
while that had some interesting visuals, the story (if you can call it that) was a mess
All Hail Duke
Oct 29th, 2018, 01:19 AM

All Hail Duke
Dec 16th, 2018, 12:42 AM

godzilla: king of the monsters
oh boy...
SPOILERS AHEAD
pros:the score
the designs of the monsters
the scenes with the monsters
the mothra "twins"
mothra's sacrifice
cons:the oxygen wounder, because it's certainly no destroyer; they should've just left the damn thing out if they weren't going to use it right
the unfinished looking cgi was really bothersome
outside of serizawa none of the human characters are worth a damn
the story-take some random plot elements from various old godzilla movies and slap them together and you get this mess
the score and the scenes with the monsters are pretty much all this movie has going for it basically
the movie is painfully average
10,000 Volt Ghost

the 2014 movie? i like it, but i do have problems with it (mostly uninteresting human characters and hard to see night fights)
i was a big godzilla fan as a kid, but after rewatching all the 50's-70s movies....that's a little hard for me to say
i still have the 80's-millenium era to try to sit through, but that's going to be a chore
i love the original and shin godzilla to pieces though, so maybe it's just the ultra serious entries that i like

jurassic world 2- a movie about dinosaurs shouldn't be boring, but here we are
a re-boot/re-adaptation of the first novel (i haven't read the 2nd book) that's closer to the story and more horror centric as a hbo mini-series would be nice
All Hail Duke

not only a worse adaptation (they could've done so much, with what the 80's version left out or didn't do correctly), but an overall bad movie
hell, i think it's worse than pet sematary 2
recent king adaptations have just fallen flat (haven't seen dark tower, but i heard it's bad)

just need to see final conflict to finish the trilogy (not going to bother w/ the remake or the 4th movie)

mortal kombat-i could go on and on about this movie, but i'll keep it brief
it's not a bad movie, just mediocre
sure it has blood and fatalities, but the lame new character, mishandling of established characters and the plot drag it down
the best thing about this was scorpion and sub-zero (though the latter was really over powered)
the 1995 movie, dated as it is, is honestly better (it actually had the tournament, liu kang was the lead, and shang tsung was portrayed so much better)
All Hail Duke

and it's about time the battles didn't take place in total darkness

but where do they go from here, destoroyah?

ghostbusters afterlife-it was ok
there were things i liked (egon's granddaughter, the cgi was pretty good, re-use of the classic score, the original ghostbusters themselves), but there were things i didn't (the kid from stranger things basically playing the kid from stranger things, that podcast kid (ugh), some really bad humor, a slow first half, ghostbusters 2 basically being ignored)
i'd rank them as Ghostbusters>Ghostbusters 2>the video game>Afterlife
i didn't bother with the remake

creed-being a rocky fan it was time i got around to watching these
the first one:not bad, stallone was the highlight here (hence the oscar nod), and a nice callback to rocky 1 with the match ending in a split decision loss
creed 2-rocky 4 was one of my favorites from the franchise, so bringing back ivan drago was a huge plus
duke's son being a trainer, the first fight being a flat out slaughter, drago given some real nice character development, viktor being even more of a monster than ivan (but being his own character)
i really liked it
