I don't watch lots of movies.
The recent I've watched was District 9.
While I watching the film, I immediately wanted to view it again.
It is very intriguing and highly entertaining, with a dynamic characters and rich in both humor and action. Once it ended, my friends and I chattered excitedly about the numerous aspects we liked.:eek

Tonight i'm going to see Paranormal Activity. I have heard so many good thing's about this flick and i'm pretty damn excited about it.

I don't agree. I think the Video Game was one of the best Movie-Game adaptions in a long time. I know Wolverine got alot more hype and attention, but I enjoyed Wanted a tad bit more.

So I just got back from Paranormal Activity, and I have to say one thing about it. OVERRATED! It was definiatly a good movie, but the fact that everyone says it was the scariest movie of all time, is bullshit. I got home and popped in Tales from the Darkside and got more scared of THAT movie, if you've seen it then you can get what i'm saying. It just seemed like the director fell in love with the scary Youtube Videos and made a movie out of EVERY...SINGLE...ONE of them.

Check it out anyways. It was still a damn good watch. Just not the "scariest movie of all time".

Wanted, the movie, was awful. I hate Angelina Jolie so much, too. You can't curve bullets and this movie had nothing to do with the comic, which I hated just as much. That young Scottish lad in it was so good in The last King of Scotland, why do this tripe?

Anyway, I just got back from watching Van Diemen's Land. It was brutal.

Paranormal Activity. How is this tops at the box office right now? It is the most terrible, nothing-happens POS that I have ever seen. I might go out on a limb and say that it is the worst movie I've ever seen, and not worst in any sort of entertaining way.

Think Blair Witch, except with more annoying dialogue, and less happens.

Kitsa
Oct 30th, 2009, 09:02 PM
there are tons of good, low-budget indie films out there. This was not one of them. They must have a whole brigade of people pumping out positive reviews on IMDB and such, because I can't imagine how this movie is universally raved about.

They must get all their box-office on people curious about the commercials ("scariest movie ever made") and whatnot.

Seriously, it's an annoying couple talking for an hour and a half.
There is no atmosphere, no building tension. The "scary" stuff is not that scary unless you're ultra-susceptible to that sort of thing, I guess.

It's like the entire nation got Rick Roll'd.

Srsly, here is Paranormal Activity.

Guy and his girlfriend live in some house in San Diego. Guy has gotten a camera because "weird stuff" has been happening in the house and he wants to capture it. The first twenty to thirty minutes of the movie, NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENS. You just see the guy and girl hanging out and talking to the camera, him doing various douchebag-hipster things and her knitting and making jewelry (she claims to be in college, but you never see any books or papers at all).

So every night they go to bed and they hook the camera up to his laptop to keep it running all night. Various not-that-scary shit happens. Sometimes they even sleep through it. Other times they run around the house OUT OF THEIR FUCKING MINDS, demanding to know who's there. Between the sleep sessions, there is more boring talking and interaction with the camera.

The girl gets a psychic to come to the house and he tells her that there's a demon that's been haunting her since she was a kid. She can't get away from it and trying to contact it will only make it worse. You never see the demon. At one point the douchebag boyfriend spreads baby powder on the floor and when they wake up there are "demon footprints" in the powder. OOOH, SCAAAARRRYYY.

Eventually the d-bag boyfriend pisses the demon off by getting a ouija board and everything escalates (if you can count knocking, swaying chandeliers and opening/closing doors as escalating). At the end of the movie, depending on which version you see, either the girlfriend dies, the boyfriend dies, or they both die. But you were never inspired to give much of a shit about them anyway so it doesn't matter. And then they try to make it out like this is actual footage confiscated by the police and the movie is dedicated to their "memory". Like that hasn't been done before AT ALL.

As I said, it was the WORST movie I have ever seen and I think the biggest utter-fucking-waste of time I've ever seen. It was like Blair Witch except nothing happened. It was awful.

akira kurosawa's dreams
gorgeous film and I'm absolutely shocked I've never heard of it before.

Run-down: eight short segments, each based on a dream Kurosawa had at some point in his life. No overall plot, just a few short films all containing an actor portraying Kurosawa. The focus of the film is more on visuals and music than it is on dialogue. It is very slow paced, but gorgeous (the Peach Blossom dance, the funeral procession, and the Van Gogh segments come to mind).

Most of the dreams have a very flagrant message, and that is that we're destroying the earth and act irresponsibly towards nature.

Some of them are nightmares, without any hope, while others leave a more optimistic footprint.

I found it hard to pay attention to the subtitles as I was lost in the visuals of the film.

We rented it, and I loved it so much I bought it today off Amazon for six bucks. Definitely recommended.

Kurosawa Warning: No Samurai.

Thank you. Because it really did suck just about as much as anything could suck.

I mean, I guess if you're one of those people who gets all pumped up in advance, "OMG THIS IS GOING TO BE SO SCARY" and then your brain makes it scary so you don't feel like a total fucking schmuck, then maybe it could be scary then. Or if the very thought of a ghost or demon scares the everloving hell out of you, maybe. Because that was all it really was, a thought, and a vague one at that.

And in regard to the "MEECAH, MEECAH" thing....I have known several people named Micah and all of them pronounce their name Mike-uh, like the mineral. Maybe the actor pronounces his name Meek-uh and that's where they got it, but the actress constantly screaming "MEECAH, MEECAH" was annoying as hell.

I continue to be pissed off at that movie for misrepresenting itself and being a total waste of my time.

I think people just mainly like using, "So, did you hear the world is going to end?" as an icebreaker/conversation starter.

My grandmother used to have a Nostradamus tape that she played when I was a kid. It scared the hell out of me because I thought it was being presented as some sort of fact. Nope, it was just a bunch of idiots with access to production equipment "translating" quatrains that they had no hope of understanding in the first place.

I hate the History Channel this time of year because it's all Nostradamus end of the world shit all the time.

Fact: The world ends for approximately 155,000 people a day. It'll come soon enough, don't go looking for it.

I found these movies very hard to follow (the first had white subtitles without any drop or shadow, and they would frequently be overtop of light images. The video quality was also pretty bad, so the subs were useless. The second had excellent quality and legible subs, but the translation was horrible and the subtitles would show up before they were spoken--significantly early, actually). Doesn't help to be on drugs. Anyway, I still liked the movies, they were fun to watch.

I thought it was excellent. Visually stunning and the acting is great. There are some hauntingly awesome scenes, like the inevitable assassination scene or a certain supper scene, which had me at the edge of my seat. Not too much gunslinging involved, but the few violent scenes there are, are pretty brutal.

No, not the classic Metropolis. This is the anime, based on both the classic German film and a pretty old manga. Some of the backgrounds were fucking cool looking, but most had that "this is computer animation 3D cartoon" stuff and some scenes look like the type of computer animation used in Futurama (but less "cartoony" I guess).

Like I said, some of the backgrounds were cool, the snow was cool, but the movie as a whole was boring. I don't really care for anime in general, so that doesn't help.

And it had a robot-human love story, which is something I used to joke about frequently.

"In addition, a 35 second cut was made to the concluding scene of the film which showed Wong blinded and mentally crippled as a result of drinking industrial alcohol during the film's ultimate fight. I don't remember Mulan being that awesome. Eddie Murphy kinda spoils some of it, but it's got some pretty intense stuff. Really awesome fight scenes, too. Puts Hercules to shame.

I just wish Disney put as much energy in their animation now as they do in the Jonas Brothers. I hear Princess and the Frog was lame (it need to piggy back off of Geico now?!) and I haven't heard anything about Rapunzel other than the concept art they posted awhile back.

Had another movie night last night; we watched Pan's Labyrinth, The Strangers, and Signs.
I really liked The Strangers, but it could have been so much scarier. The biggest problems were that they WAY overdid the 'See someone, turn around a second later and they're gone' thing, the husband was just GONE for half the movie, and the ending was a huge letdown.
But, it had a lot of parts that were pretty terrifying. My favorite was in the beginning, when you first see him in the house; the camera doesn't focus on him at all, and it made it a lot scarier when I noticed him about ten seconds later.

Finished watching District 9 on Blu-Ray just a little while ago, having seen the movie twice in theaters I must say that it still manages to hold up even on the third viewing. It had an excellent HD Transfer too. The special effects really pop on screen. There was such a good attention to detail, especially in the alien technology. Watch closely and you can see little trails of smoke, and like parts of the guns will heat up and cool down after being fired. Haven't had a chance to watch the special features yet, but there looked to be quite a few of them. You also get a free God of War III demo for the PS3, which totally fucking ROCKS and is worth the price of the disc in the first place. There is also a free digital transfer for the PSP as well. Sony is really backing this movie!

буратино- The Russian version of Pinocchio. It's really weird, the plot is completley different, I have no idea what's going on, and they combine puppets and live action and creepy make up. Oh, and it's a musical too.

I've been watching the Star Wars marathon on Spike. You ever see that episode of Futurama where Zoidberg's uncle is directing a movie and he advices his extras to do a little comedy in the background. Was that a stab at George Lucas's remastering of the original trilogy? Because I'm seeing alot of burping frogs and bigger robots konking littler robots on the head in scenes where burping frogs and bigger robots konking littler robots on the head are not called for.

My friend imported a BluRay of Ponyo, which had the original english voices, so I was totally down for that. Miyazaki makes awesome movies, and while this one is definitely more child friendly, it was still charming as hell. The animation for the ocean is phenomenal and the story was genuinely interesting. Probably not my favorite, but still really good.

That's usually how it is. In the time between now and this morning my friend at work noticed I was reading it and was like "Hey, did you get to the part where this happens?" Oh, you're not there yet...oh....that's actually the twist ending."

>:>:>:Wow, what a huge douchebag thing to do. Why would you ask someone if they got to the twist ending while explicitly stating what it is.

I remember that Iwas late reading the final harry potter book compared to the rest of the fans and I had to basically threaten people with violence in order to not have the book ruined for me.

Its one thing to be like, did you read anything involving roasted chestnuts and monkeys and its entirely different to ruin key plot points. I feel your pain :(

I thought Zombieland was okay. My mother keeps getting it confused with Adventureland and that makes for comedy when she's telling some people about the girl from Twilight fighting all the zombies.

I got the star wars trilogy (with the GOOD, NO STUPID SARLACC TENTACLES VERSIONS) on DVD, although with the recent Spike marathon I haven't cracked it yet. Also got my own copy of "Hated", which is always a good time. My favorite part is where GG Allin shoves the banana up his ass, shits it back out, and throws it at the college students..."Who's hungry? Who's hungry?"

I reccomend it ANT if you like bad action movies
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/aa/Action_Jackson.jpg

It has Carl Weathers, Vanity, Sharon Stone and !!!!!Craig T (Coach) Nelson as the kickboxing corporate villian.

There's so much defenestration in this movie. At least two different people get thrown through two windows in one heave.

Terminator Salvation
Probably my favorite in the series. I hope future sequels are like this.

King Hadas

I watched Terminator Salvation recently too. I like how that cyborg guy basically does the opposite of time travel. The movie was pretty good but it lacked something. Terminator movies are a lot of things but at their core, structurally, their about one dude being hunted by another dude who does not sleep, does not eat, and will not stop until he dies at the end of the movie in a pretty cool way. This movie really didn't have an antagonist, Skynet I guess but she came out feeling pretty generic.

The scene where young Arnie actually makes an appearance, wow, that had a strange effect on me. I'm sure a lot of people got a chuckle out of it but the improbability of him being in this movie and then, through the power of movie magic, there he is. I thought it was pretty cool.

Tadao
Jan 5th, 2010, 04:15 PM
Yeah, that was my main complaint about Salvation.

I just watched Drag Me to Hell. I was pretty cool except that maybe my version had a sound problem, but the "scary" parts were way to loud. Oh and anyone could have seen that ending.

Marky Mark is great in that movie but only if you think of him as being my father :(

"UUHHHH NO, GOSH!"

my favorite part of that movie is its profound understanding of human nature. If you remove people's inhibitions, all of them will kill themselves. they won't eat and eat and eat, or like i dunno do a bunch of drugs, fuck endlessly, turn into serial killers or be completely undescribable due to entirely irratic behavior from pursuing whatever thoughts enter their head; they smell some shit in the air and instantly try to off themselves.
Beneath all of our inhibitions is the one desire to kill ourselves, according to m nyte shamalame
