Finished Poultrygeist last night. It was really good. I still liked Terror Firmer a lot better but I've only watched Poultrygeist once so far. Going over to my friend Niki's tonight so she can pinpoint the parts she is in.

I loved the line

"You look thirsty, how about some punch!" followed by a punch to the face. Not that it's amazingly witty, I just wasn't expecting it.

Foot Fist Way - Not bad. Will probably appeal to fans of Napoleon Dynamite.

The Dark Knight - What can I say? It's as good as everyone said it would be. Looks phenomenal in HD too.

Ghostbusters 2 - Caught this on TV for the first time in years and it holds up better that I expected.

Yeah it was on one of those channels that throws movies like that on TV after midnight to get the insomniac stoner demographic. I never noticed a Double Dragon arcade game, but then again I've seen this movie like 4 times and couldn't give a plot summary to save my life. Alyssa Milano is hot, though, so it's got that going for it.

:lol

Plot summary of double dragon from what I remember:

Two brothers and Alyssa Milano being hot. Some fight scene. Some meathead with a machine sticking out of his head steal one of the police cars from the Super Mario Bros movie. There's some radar tracking. Another fight scene. Double Dragon arcade machine. A chase scene involving some run down future hoods. Fight scene.

It's been a while since I've seen it but I think it's pretty close.

Replace the second fight with the brothers being chased by a bunch of gangs like a shitty neon version of The Warriors and it's pretty spot on.

Raging Bull. Got the DVD for Krismus. DeNiro is great as Jake LaMotta--who consulted on the film. I saw an interview he did a while back with ESPN and that guy is the first to say what a jerk he was. That's honesty. But LaMotta was the most fun to watch until Ali came along. The Bronx Bull was a middle weight but he hit like a heavyweight. He knocked Laurente Dauthuille through the ropes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lamotta_dauth2.jpg
and fought Sugar Ray Robinson six times. Too bad he got mixed up with the mob--that pretty much ended his career. The movie shows him knocking Sugar Ray through the ropes but you know Hollywood: the like twisting a story like they work in a pretzel factory.

The Pianist - Breathtakingly brilliant film. I loved this so much. It's an amazing testament to the human spirit that anyone could've survived the Warsaw ghettos which were so vividly portrayed in this film. My favourite part was near the end when a German officer, obviously aware that the Wermacht were losing at this point, discovers Wladyslaw Szpilman and asks him to play a song. Believing it to be the last song he will ever play it's as though he unleashes all the sorrow and anger that has built up within him thoughout the past 4 years in one perfect song. So taken with the brilliance of this the officer behins to help Szpilman to survive.

Finally saw The Wrestler. Great movie. Even if you don't like pro wrestling I'd recommend it. I'm not really big into it now, but I was in the 80s/early 90s and this movie had me thinking at times about the "whatever happened to him?" type guys. While it's got this dreary atmosphere, it's really a warm movie more often than not and there are some good laughs.

The Strangers - I'm pretty sure this is the spiritual sequel to When a Stranger Calls because they're both pointless, terrible and use the same basic premise that you never see the faces of the killer/s. It was so horribly clichéd I spent half the time groaning at the screen and discussing with my girlfriend how stupid the victims were being. For example at one point they discover a shotgun and a whole shoebox full of shells. Now what they should've done is gone into a room with only 1 way in and aimed at the door until morning. What they actually did was split up - one of them going outside with the shotgun into some dark woods. Urgh.
It has that stupid thing at the start where it says "BASED ON TRUE EVENTS" - presumably the true events were that someone died once and they filled in the rest with generic horror film scenes (Oh noes a shadowy figure is standing in the distance and in a blink he has disappeared!!)

Really really terrible shit load of crap. Never watch The Strangers

Bag Head - Though I figured out the plot before it finished it was still an enjoyable film. Check it out if you like independant low-budget horror/comedies.

Seven Pounds - This was the third film of the night I watched and by this point I was extremely drunk which hampered my enjoyment slightly. I think it's a good film, it has a decent premise and Wil Smith acts well. Worth a rent I'd say.

Ping Pong Playa' - Surprisingly enjoyable film about a Chinese teenager that wants to be a basketball player but ends up competing in a Ping Pong tournament. Some decent jokes along the way and a suitably heart-warning ending.

Taken - When an ex-government agent's daughter is taken during a trip to France he is forced to employ his skills to track down her captors and serve them some rough-justice. So far as action-thrillers go this was a really good one, basically if you liked Man on Fire then you'll like this.

I would've liked to actually see him die at the end and get some reactions from the other wrestlers etc. I don't know why but it just felt like it ended rather abruptly.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. They look at the camera too much (we get it, it's an intentionally shitty movie. We knew that walking in). Other than that, though, it's a funny film and a cool way for Kevin Smith to tie his little universe together. It's not a great film in the traditional sense, but where else can you watch George Carlin, Will Ferrell, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Shannon Elizabeth, Eliza Dushku, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart and many others ply their craft?

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I watched them back to back on a night where I had nothing better to do, but it was cool. They have a natural flow and evolution. The ending of Begins has to be given credit for the success of TDK because that Joker card gave people boners for another chance to see Batman vs. The Joker. Even had TDK not featured good performances and Ledger's untimely death, the movie would've made a shit ton of money. Nolan tossed up the baseball to himself with Batman Begins and hit the ball out of the park with TDK. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't helm number 3.

Revolutionary Road - Not bad. Kind of reminds me of Mad Men but that's probably just because of its setting. DiCaprio and Winslet are really quite good actors and this saves the film. Had two lesser actors been in the lead roles I could see it being rather crap because to be honest the story isn't THAT interesting by itself.
It also occurred to me that it'd be hilarious if this was the sequel to Titanic.

The Reader - Kate Winslet again, this time playing an illiterate Nazi war criminal that seduces a 15 year old boy and learns to read... so yeah it's kind of an odd story but it works. Much better than Revolutionary Road and actually quite upsetting at the end.

Wow was this ridiculous. It would have been better if I would have went when they were still showing it in 3d. All these other people in the theater were getting upset at me and my sister who were sitting toward the back.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop - I'm one of those crazy people that actually quite liked King of Queens and think that Kevin James is pretty funny, even when he's in completely shit films like Chuck and Larry. As such I was willing to check out Paul Blart: Mall Cop despite it's dubious reviews and I'm glad I did. It's certainly not breaking any new ground so far as comedy goes and there are some rather stupid elements to the film but overall I enjoyed it.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - Again I watched this film purely for the fact that I like Michael Cera. It reminded me a lot of Lost in Translation to be honest, which is good because I like Lost in Translation. I think it's a slightly better film than Juno, but that could just be because I don't like Ellen Page. Cera's performane is as good as usual. I don't know what it is he does but he has some strange ability to make lines like "I promise you sir, this is not a taxi" hilarious.
Anyway, it's worth a watch.

Where the Buffalo Roam- I'm not sure whose Hunter S. Thompson I like better. I think Bill Murray's is better going on voice alone, but Johnny Depp was better with expressions and mannerisms. Both actors' attitude problems reputedly date to their character study of Hunter S. Thompson. Great writer and interesting guy overall, but he spawned this disease of wannabes who can't differentiate drugged-out insanity from pathetic deliberate wackiness.

Burn after Reading. It had its funny points but was a little disappointing overall. A lot of the time, I thought Brad Pitt was trying to do a French Stewart impression.

I was completely unprepared when he got shot. Not that I'm against Brad Pitt getting shot, but it changed the tone of everything. I know the Coen brothers can go dark, but there wasn't a big "format change" like that in Fargo or Big Lebowski. A dark movie was a dark movie and a comedy was a comedy. Anyway, it was jarring.

Edit: My mother recommended "Delta Farce". I left halfway through. Wacky redneck hijinks are not my thing.

Into the Wild Green Yonder. The Futurama DVDs have all just been long episodes; there hasn't been a big focus on continuity between them or a story arch to tie them all together. They've introduced new characters and built upon the canon of the series without getting away from the strengths of the series. So, Wild Green Yonder is another hilarious episode of Futurama, full of references and jokes tailor made for videogame nerds and sci-fi fanboys. It waits until very late in the proceedings to acknowledge that it's the very last Futurama we're likely to see, and by then there's no time to reflect; probably for the best as a long goodbye wouldn't have been nearly as hilarious as this was.

watched Coming to America and Used Cars earlier, now it's late and I'm high, so I popped in Class of Nuke 'em High for a good time.

The X Files - I want to believe: Awful film. I don't like the x-files in general but this was so ridiculous.

Imagine heads being ripped off chickens, frogs being gutted alive, a man who looks eerily like Tadao masturbating into steaks he's cooking at a restaurant, and that same man raping a dying ebola patient.

I meant that some of the events sound similar. Divine wears a steak in her panties and goes for a walk to marinade it, then later cooks it. Her brother fucks that girl with the chicken in between them, and snaps its neck in the process.

Far Cry - The problem I have with most game-films is that they often completely change the storyline from the original game so the only people that could conceivably care about the film - fans of the game - get nothing from it. Far Cry is a text-book example of this. I mean yeah, it's a bad film and there wasn't ever any real question of this (being that it's a Boll film) but it has gone from being a relatively decent Island of Dr Moreau rip-off to being a generic action film about super soldiers or some bollocks.
The acting is some way between moderate and very very bad and it has quite possibly the worst sex scene of any film ever.

I watched part of "Still Waiting". It had its moments and I would have watched the whole thing had time permitted, but it was a lousy sequel. The majority of the original cast had the good sense to stay away; the funniest people were long-gone, and the people who remained tried to crank it over the top to step into those shoes.

The character who took over Ryan Reynolds' part (different name, same persona) was no Ryan Reynolds.

I kept thinking the new manager was William H Macy. It looked like William H Macy with dark hair.

All in all it was one of those movies that you know isn't any good, but it entertains you enough that you shrug and put down the remote.

Transporter 3 - Same as last two really. Decent action film but nothing special.

Religulous.

It was okay. It wasn't blow-you-away-fantastic and profound like it was made out to be, at least not in my opinion.

If religion is the opiate of the masses, I think that (in the case of the pacifists, at least), they should be allowed to take their opium if it makes them feel better. I don't feel inclined to ridicule people for not believing the same thing I do. If they're not hurting anyone, I don't care.

I realize that toward the end he was speaking more of the non-pacifist religions. But good luck eradicating religion from the world, Bill. If it happened it'd probably end up like the battling atheist (agnostic?) otters on South Park.

The Dead or Alive movie was actually pretty good. Other than that most VG based movies are terrible.

ok so it goes in this order

Story of Ricky (YOU KNOW I LOVE THIS GOD DAMN MOVIE)

The 'Burbs

Wet Hot American Summer

Shit, I'm starting to see a pattern in my movies now. I love this.

I've recently been getting the hook up on free movies too. Stores let me buy any VHS tapes for 99 cents no matter what price they are and 2 of my friends are managers at a pretty decent video store. FREE SHIT IS AMAZING ESPECIALLY WHEN GET TO CHOOSE!

lol i like how in the synopsis of Religulous it says, "Raised catholic but really half-jew" :lol

im sure movies like this appeal to dipshits about as readily as that one about creationism/evolution.

Marley & Me: I think it was Kitsa that said films about dogs are predicable because the dog always dies... well at the risk of spoiling this film...

the dog dies

anyway, the storyline wasn't really interesting and Jennifer Aniston looks old and portly. Wouldn't recommend anyone watch this unless they really like puppies (Tadao).

Killshot: Directed by John Madden...

John Madden, the American football guy?

John Madden?

Well needless to say this wasn't a good film. It did have a genuinely potentially interesting plot but it was ruined though poor direction and just bad film making. It was just "meh". Watch The Wrestler instead.
