I started up the Disgaea 2 remake for PSP. I put a shitload of time into the first game, and didn't get much time with the second.
That said, I've reached the point where I've broken the game over my knee and levelled up my troops over 100 Levels in two battles. In one day, I unlocked a secret character, and levelled it from 50 to 600 two days later.
I'm gonna see if I can make it to 9999. This game's got enough shit to abuse that it's actually feasible this time.

Took a break on the new zelda and rented the new game Darksiders for 360. Having fun with it so far at about two hours into it. Some very cool kills to be performed. The game borrows heavily from various games but it executes most of it well. Overall I'd call it an action adventure game thou.

Well according to what ive read it does run on vista (what i've read is about 100 people saying they have vista but it works) but fathom zero's the pro.
what kind of laptop do you have? What happens when it crashes? have you tried changing compatability mode even though that usually doesnt do shit? Is your vista updated? You got direct x updated/your video drivers updated? And some people say you need ageiaphysix but i dunno about that :O QUESSSSTIOOOONS. before you do all that i would try turning user account control off though.
WINDOWS VISTA OR WINDOWS 7 USERS: Launching “Mass Effect” from Steam requires the setting “Run as Administrator”. If the User Account Control feature of Windows Vista is enabled, launching “Mass Effect” from Steam will result in failure. For users with User Account Control enabled, launch Steam using the “Run as Administrator” option or launch from the windows shortcut.you should just turn run as administrator on the mass effect launcher, the .exe that actually loads the game AND steam i guess ;/ you're launching from steam right? :O
THATS ALL THE CRAP I WOULD START WITH IF I WERE YOU :( You can also turn off user account controls entirely which might make it easier for you. To do that open the microsoft security center which you can access through the control panel. Then click other security options or something and that should be one of the options. IF THAT DOESNT HELP ILL TRY TO GIVE YOU SOME OTHER SUGGESTIONS.

Supposedly the reason why bigtimecow is having problems is cause it edits the registry when the game runs the first time and user account control stops that from happening. Prolly the downloadable content might add the registry data automatically :O
but anyway regarding that some dude having the same problem was all, "THIS GAME EDITS THE REGISTRY? I DONT WANT NO GAME MESSIN WITH MY REGISTRY"
:lol
Fathom Zero
Jan 18th, 2010, 03:02 AM
Red Faction also had a problem with that. It edits the registry so that, at the end of the process, a patch is downloaded and installed for the game. Well, when a lot of people bought it off of Steam like I did, they found that it wouldn't patch itself because the update wouldn't download itself, and if it did, it wouldn't install. That means you couldn't sign into GFW and couldn't get any multiplayer on.
So I just found the address of the patch on Microsoft's servahs and manually downloaded it.
I'm actually having to do that with more and more games. I wonder what my computer's beef is.

I hate Vista. Sorry Kahl, I didn't notice you offered me good advice in my "installing xp" thread until recently.
Anyway, I downloaded the Bayonetta demo, and while I can see why people would enjoy it, and I can see why they see it as a good game; it's not really my type of thing. In other news, Darksiders is still enthralling me.

I only have the Swamp Fever chapter to beat before I have all the achievements for L4D2. I play through all the levels no problem; I only used maybe two medkits. So, I get to the plantation house, and hold up pretty damn well for a while.
Then, out of nowhere, another Tank comes in, beats the fuck out of me, and dies. So I figure I'll heal while I have a chance. Right about when I'm halfway through, all at once, a Smoker drags Rochelle across the field, a Charger takes Coach across to the other side, Nick outright got killed somehow, and I'm just running for the boat for my last bit of hope.
Then, I got flanked by three Tanks. THREE. I didn't even know the game could DO that.

I think it, Dead Space, should have been more "open world". Instead of the "Here is a section of the space station you can explore for now and these are the objectives for this section.". If the game had just dropped you off and then killed off most of your team, like it did, then just left you to hopefully find your girl friend or wife or whatever she was and a way off, it would have been much better IMO. Kind of like a 3rd person Metroid.

The game is so short, and the story so disjointed and rushed, that I didn't even realize I was playing the final level until the jetpack was destroyed in the final cutscene.

Pretty fucking fun, despite the fact that I have no idea what a "Yatterman" is. Frank West is totally fucking awesome and really fun to play. Whole game's really good; fast and crazy, but more tame than MvC2, which is a pro and a con.

Pfft, you two are both lame. Secret of Mana is amazing. You just need to play it with two or three people. We used to rent Secret of Mana and then Super Bomberman because it came with the multi-tap so three of us could play SOM at the same time.

Policenauts was fan-translated recently and I'm playing it now. I like it. Though, I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that your character is given the option to grope and harass nearly every girl in the game. The scene with Chris and the massquito is just embarrassing.

Another leak: No More Heroes 2.
Pros: still silly. Actually, they crank the silliness up to 11. The second boss is a mech fight. Blowing up the other mech results in assassins #50-26 being killed. Woops. Also, no overworld and no mandatory jobs. The jobs are all optional. Oh, and Classic Controller support.
Cons: You're still mashing A to win (unless playing with classic controller. Then high and low attacks are mapped to two different buttons). Game still feels janky, and really dated compared to the recent Bayonetta. Lotta closeups on ugly textures and inconsistent framerate during cutscenes. Plus, I'm at a point where OMG8BITGAEMZ has lost its novelty and feels a little like pandering. Also, no cellphone conversations yet?
Eh, I'd give it a C, maybe B- at best.

I stopped at 18 or something. Had a bunch of friends with it, so it was fun for a while. I'd be an asshole and use the Moisin Nagant for everything and get all stuns with no kills. Stuns put the enemy out of the game indefinitely, whereas, if one kills them, they can respawn. I loved getting headshots with it. LIGHTS OUT, MF.

Okay, nevermind. NMH2 is starting to be more fun now. Fuck yes, dual wielding light sabers, ninja chick with a jump button, and crazy Irish jedi. Some of the bosses require stupid amounts of hits, though, and the minigame to increase your attack has some weird collision. I like that they're mixing up the ranked missions, though, even if Revenge Missions have absolutely zero reward to them.

Been playing the pc-version of Mass Effect 2 while I wait for my 360-version to get shipped. Yes, wanting to play a game can make you drive over to the store, walz through the games-section angily mumbling to you self, and then you feel bad for the rest of the day because you essentially payed another 50€ just to play the game NOW instead of next week.
Thanks to my rather old PC, it looks and performs like the 360 ME1...rather bad, but what the hell.
Concerning the game itself...AWESOME! Not sure I like some of the changes they made but still, there´s so much soul and heart in that game, I do think I already have my GOTY 2010.

I can't find fault with it's graphics but I hated Mass Effect's game mechanics.
Thinking of Mass Effect, when you make your character do you try to make them as ugly as possible? Since I can't make a character that looks like me I tend to make them either stupid looking or real frumpy.
Guitar Woman
Jan 28th, 2010, 02:19 PM
I'd spend like 15 minutes in the character creator making someone I thought looked like a babe capable of kicking substantial ass and garnering much wealth and respek knuckles, only to find out once I actually started playing that she looked fucking retarded in cutscenes and had developed a severe case of Librarian's Turtle Lip in the two seconds between exiting character genesis and the game's opening.
Getting past that, I still fucking hated playing the goddamn thing.
I did try to make a ridiculously ugly character at one point, but it's not nearly as hilarious as Oblivion where you can distort the sliders so hard you end up with something resembling Jar Jar Binks after having his head flattened like a Chinook child.
This abomination was made twice as terrifying when I opted for it to be a female character that ran around in undergarments punching people in the face.
OxBlood
Jan 28th, 2010, 04:54 PM
I never said that ME1 was ugly, it just had severe framerate-issues AND the second one looks a little better. Take my weak PC that shows me about 80% of the details of ME2 and you get something like ME1. Nothing to do with ugly.
Trying out the Vanguard right now, my class of choice from the first game...but I don´t really like him that much this time. Too strange somehow and that charge thing is just a test to see if you are stupid enough to actually charge into more than one enemy...

As much as I love Jade Empire...ME2 is WAY better in a lot of ways. One thing that JE does better though is this little feature in the conversations. In JE, you can see the emotion that is tied to the response before choosing it by looking at your character´s facial expression.

Good game. Not as original as the first one, which was to be expected, but good nonetheless. The whole "protect the little sister"-mechanic is WAY less annoying as I thought, Weapons and Plasmids are fun too, of course, the Rivet Gun is a very nice replacement for the Revolver.
Only the graphics surprise me, they seem worse than in the first one, especially the time it takes to get textures on some things can he cruel sometimes. Ready the drill-weapon and sometimes you get a bland, untextured object and the game takes about 6 (SIX!) seconds to apply layer after layer of textures and bumpmapping and whatnot to it in front of your eyes. VERY disturbing.

Kinda like Mass Effect, then?
OxBlood
Feb 10th, 2010, 02:17 PM
It´s the same effect, yes, only much worse at times, the drill is about the most horrifying example, you just...stop and...gawk at the bleakness of that strange object while it slowly takes shape in front of your eyes, like some blob of interstellar slime struggling to take on a familliar form, so it can attempt cross-species-communication with you...horrible I tell you.
The level-objects and walls have that problem too from time to time, not as much as ME1, but it´s still noticeable. Also, many of the textures, even if completely loaded just look like shit, I can´t remember BS1 looking that cheap...it´s not everywhere but it´s there.

You can always start without them. Gotta play arcade a lot to unlock different characters.
I think getting 4 Capcom endings = Frank West. Which is really all you need. He's awesome :love
Oh figures, haha. I played it once through to test it. Which controller do you use to play? I just used the WiiMote but it almost feels like cheating.

Classic. But I play lots of fighters. Playing the simplified controls is for people new to the genre. I actually hear it's pretty good for learning the mechanics without getting fucked up by button inputs. Even though the VS. games have easier inputs for moves.

So a possible interpretation of the ending to Shattered Memories is that Heather/Cheryl is a fucking delusional psychotic who created two games worth of fantasy in her head to cope with her dad dying. Basically, Silent Hill 1 and 3 never happened, and the entire thing was just an invention of Heather's to pass her dad off as a big hero, and to re-assign blame from herself to forces beyond her control, followed by revenge in 3. Presumably she was imagining all of this while she was in a fucking straight jacket.
It's sorta like how in Silent Hill 2 James is so traumatized by killing his wife that he invents a bunch of shit about getting a letter from her saying to meet her in Silent Hill after she's been dead for 3 years, when in reality the game takes place about two or three days after she dies; if I remember right, there's a part that implies Mary's corpse is even in the trunk of his car. Although I think the "Heather is fucking completely insane" angle Shattered Memories might or might not present is pretty creative and dark and awesome, I'm not sure whether to consider it canon or not.
Yeah, it's sort of a stretch, but fuck you, half the fun of Silent Hill is reading into it too much.

I'm playing Army of Two: The 40th Day.
Because they couldn't call it Army of Two 2.
I enjoyed the sillyness of the first one, if not the weapon customisation. Plus, it was good fun two player. Playing through the sequel by myself is alright, but it seems like it's going to be a really short and easy game; I already have the "Finish half the game on Hard Mode" xbox achievement after about two and a half hours play.
This time through there are less weapons as well. Which sucks, but seems to be keeping up with the trend of sequels at the moment. Another thing missing unless I am mistaken is selecting your armour (heavy, light etc) and having different face masks for each of the characters; replaced now with a few to select from for both, and a "make your own mask on the EA website" thingo which doesn't seem to let people without a gold xbox live account use it.
I do like the character design, however, and some of the enemies look especially cool. In fact the concept art is the best part of this game. A lot of it reminds me of Akira.

All the scripted sequences where you have to snipe two people at once, or tactics where you have one guy distract and the other flank are difficult to pull off in single player. It's much more rewarding with two people; you can even play paper, scissors, rock!

Is $60 the usual price for a new release game in the US? Here it's $AU99, which is $US87.40. :(
Big name games that people will buy no matter the cost (Modern Warfare 2 for examaple) are usually $AU119, which is $104.

So with Sonic 4 probably going to suck, I decided to play all of the 2D Sonics until I got pissed off and moved on to the next game. What I learned:
-Sonic 1 wasn't all that fast. It was just a platformer with bad controls and sometimes you went fast but you usually got hit for going too fast anyways.
-Tails was a totally useless addition, whether you played with someone or not.
-Chaos Emeralds are the worst thing to happen to the whole franchise.
-Sonic Advance was the last good Sonic game, period. Sadly, the graphics are ugly.
-Sonic Advance 2 is pretty horrible in terms of gameplay, since all you do is hold right, but dammit, the game gets you so excited to start holding right. The music builds up, Sonic does a warm-up stretch, the announcer counts down, and bam, you're running. And it's awesome. Until you realize you haven't done a damn thing the whole level.
-Sonic Advance 3 is pretty horrible until you get to Sunset Hill, which is a Green Hill remix right down to the music. Then the game goes right back to being horrible.
-Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure have great soundtracks. Too bad boosting ruins the entire game and anything it aspires to be.
So really, Sonic hasn't ever been that great, but if you're 8 years old and stupid, he's pretty cool.

Tails wasn't useless. He was very useful for boss battles if tails was being controlled by a human since he could die unlimited times.

Tails ruined the minigames in Sonic 2 if you were playing solo. And the bosses only last 30 seconds anyways. The rest of the time, he pops up on screen then falls behind.
And holy shit the rank 8 assassin named shinobi in 'no more heroes' was very difficult!
Yea. Probably the hardest boss in the game for me. I really can't think of any other that pissed me off as much.

I'm pretty sure we've talked about it a lot before. Shit's a perfect Batman simulator. Won a few GotY awards. Must be a pretty thick rock you've got there :P
I'm waiting to play Mile Edgeworth Investigations. I have no idea why; I skipped Phoenix Wrights 2 and 3 because the new characters were annoying and the music wasn't as amazing. Apollo Justice was pretty great, though. And the first one was pretty good. Admittedly, I hate adventure games, so I'm not sure if walking around will make the investigating more or less enjoyable for me. It was definitely my least favorite part of the games.
