Hey! I shield bashed my way to victory :P. I started the Darkness and I'm stuck at the part where the helicopter and the cops rape you at the beginning. Also I restarted Resident Evil 5 and I'm remembering why it sucked so hard and I stopped. Trying Split/Second today.

That part can be a little difficult. It's best to avoid the helicopter as best as you can. It's very hard to kill, if you can at all.

Just finished playing Stonekeep. The combat in that game has some unresolved issues, as evidenced by me killing monsters by throwing arrows at them. Not shooting them from a bow; throwing them.

Certain moves and special moves flow into each other as combos though. Like a FP, FP, low HK, MP+MK(cancel) into a Shoryuken.
IF you go through the training segment for each character to learn the moves it will kinda show you which goes into which. My Roommate is really good at them but anytime we get into an agrument he wants to play SF II because he has like a black belt in it.

The most valuable lesson to learn about Chris Redfieldīs Boulderpunch 2009 is: Never play it alone, it sucks ass in outer space. I think I played through that game about 6 or 7 times but never alone, itīs just not fun that way...
Still liking my bow-elf-dude in Dragon Age, nice to have some skills that do actual damage...problem is: Bowīs donīt have slots and most skills center around backstabbing, which you canīt do with bows...I also didnīt know what additional class to take, so I chose Ranger...maybe those summoned animals can at least draw the enemies attention while I needle them to death with unpoisonable arrorws (another flaw)...ranged weapons seem kinda half-assed...

Yeah, it's dumb to make yourself an archer. You can deck out Lelianna to be a badass archer and she ends up being a really useful support member with stuff like critical shot (or whatever the fuck it's called) and scattershot. With this game, you kinda need to look at your party members and plan your character around them. On my first playthrough, I was a tank, and I kept getting rolled because I didn't have any variety in my team until the end.

I know, I know. But I donīt wanna use Lelianna which is not effective since sheīs a decent archer and the primary idiot that wastes skillpoints on lockpicking...just donīt want to carry her around.
The whole game wouldīve been much better with decent and fun skills, not these boring-ass D&D stuff...never really got into the whole thing because of that...I prefer to play ONE character instead of babysitting a whole pack of guys that only survive because of synergistic effects...but then again, Iīm not a friend of tactial planning to begin with, I prefer to just...kill the shit out of Ogres and Dragons :D

Yeah, I was the same way when I started playing it; I didn't really give a shit about any of the tactics and kinda just expected it to be like Knights of the Old Republic, but it was way too hard to play through it with that mentality.
All you need to do is set up a few key characters a certain way, and it should be much easier. I had Morrigan in my party for like 85% of the game. She was just that effective.

Pretty much yeah, you slash up monsters with your gigantic sword from the other side of the screen while listening to immensly cooly Retro-Tunes. You descend into the dangerous temples of Dotnia, hunting treasures like...THE GREEN ORB or...THE BLUE ORB! Because, well, Sages need orbs and youīre the hero so get to fucking adventurinī already :lol
Itīs a really nice game...now I just gotta design my own hero...or royal...or scholar since thereīs 3 different classes...but Iīm SO bad at designing things with an optical component...Iīm more the writer type guy...not in english of course ;)
The game is also full of lovely little hommages to other games like the king in the beginning who warns you that itīs dangerous to go alone and he wantīs you to...take this..."SWORD GET!"
Thereīs also the Atlus HQ with some people complaining about how hard one of their games is...something with demons apparently ;)

Prince Of Persia TFS is pretty good. The controls feel a little stiff but that's because it was built off the AC engine. Otherwise, I really like it. RDR is aight. Playing Bit.Trip Runner today. It's probably the best in the series. Really cool graphics, and the music is just great. Plus, there's no game over in this game, so it's a little less frustrating, even though you have to start over if you fuck up. It's basically a rhythm platformer where you need to either jump, kick, slide, or bounce at the right beat.
The second world alone is worth it. So awesome. Everyone with a Wii should try it.

Just got the first 120 stars in Mario Galaxy 2.
Turns out there are 120 more stars that get unlocked after :lol They're really weird, too: they're tucked away in the levels and you have zero hints as to where they are, since the missions are numbered. Then if you even do find them, you usually have to exploit the mechanics to get them, like using Yoshi's tongue to fling yourself off of a flower then flutter kicking then backflipping off of Yoshi all in one go.
Fantastic game, though. It's reviewing like crazy.

I'm really thinking that's it because I really, legitimately hated them. They feel way too floaty, I guess. I'm sure with practice or whatever, I could handle it.
But then, I don't really like the Remote + Nunchuk controller setup for any game on the Wii, so I'm probably not the best judge.
Phoenix Gamma
May 25th, 2010, 01:57 AM
See, I think they're pretty precise. I usually end up making the game a lot harder for myself by finding retarded challenges like trying to fling a hammer bro into the lava with yoshi's tongue in midair (came close, but I accidentally stomped on him in the air before he could land in the lava :lol ) or landing precise triple jumps in Bowser's stages while narrowly avoiding everything and randomly busting out sideflips or whatever. That's why I love these extra 120 stars; they require my kind of dicking around to find.
Actually, I do that a lot in Mario games. I just like seeing what kind of cool shit I can pull off, but I get a lot more into it with Galaxy 1 and 2. And Sunshine too, though I liked fucking around in that game more than the actual missions. At least Galaxy and Galaxy 2's missions are fun, and you really don't repeat much in the latter. One mission, you're spitting Bullet Bills at shit, the next, you're gliding a bird through a crumbling space station, then you're drilling through a house while the direction of gravity changes.
The only changes I would make to the sequel is to bring Splatter Matter back, get rid of the Fat Luma character, and have Bowser only appear once, with the Koopa Kids filling in all of the main boss fights leading up to him. They made the same stupid mistake of repeating the Bowser fight 3 times, and while they do add twists each time (the finale is actually really cool), it just loses it's impact. But everything else is really, really solid. Technically, a better game than the original in almost every way.

Is boring, samey and tries so hard to be like Avatar.
It's also designed to be played online co-op, which pisses me off since I'm playing the game through with AI partners. I also really love how they gave us the ability to swap out our Perks....whatsitcalled...Mods, yeah Mods, love those, it gives you so much flexibility by fine-tuning certain powerups...the shield boost is really nice, let´s me drive through two EMPs instead of one and the whole thing is active for twice the time...good stuff.
Still, out of 34 races, I only made first place ONCE...I´m just not good at racing games... :D

Conker's Bad Fur Day!
At first I didn't care for it, until I realized it's not so much a Banjo Kazooie type platformer as it is a simplified version of a Lucasarts-ish adventure game. There's practically no combat in it at all, and the levels are teeny, as opposed to BK's sprawling, massive billion levels full of different stuff to do. Most of it is spent just running around, solving one or two puzzles, then moving to the next area.
It's ok, but not as funny as the internet would have you believe.

I admit, Alpha Protocol is pretty much shit in the technical department but I still like it, I just didn´t think they´d mess up the optics and part of the controls that much...I don´t really mind the whole "I can´t hit shit"-thing, since it´s an RPG, not a Shooter. Look at any Bioware RPG. People are hitting each other in the face with maces but nothing happens as long as the dice behind the scenes don´t say so.
But I can understand that most people will get some kind of seizure when they play this game ;) good thing I got it a bit cheaper...
They should do they same thing I proposed to the Nier-team: Keep their story-writers and gameplay-designers, fire the rest and get some grown-ups to program their game.

Other Games worth mentioning:
Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain (Rent), GOW3, The Ratchet and Clank-games, Uncharted Series, 3d Dot Game Heroes, Maybe Little Big Planet and Folklore too aaaand that´s about all the Exclusives I own...stay the fuck away from Resistance, especially the first one, horrible game. I like how he jumps over to the bomber, picks up a rocket and like does the Heisman before throwing a fucking rocket at you.
Now that's badass.

when you shoot the rockets at him and he stops them, you can shoot the rockets and theyll blow up in his face :O
I assumed that was the only way to kill him because that is all I ever did. Is it not? I also remember turning off some lights or something but it has been a while.

Check out the Sega stuff on Steam today. Yet another way for them to get more of my money.

Why are the games on steam so expensive? You don't get a physical copy, manual, case, or shelf space in a store so shouldn't it start off at 40$ or something. Or is all that just extra profit now that they don't have to actually give you anything physical?
Fathom Zero
Jun 2nd, 2010, 08:23 AM
They're MSRP, usually. I believe it's because that's what the publisher wants to charge. It's probably not Steam's fault. Also, there's the convenience of not having to keep discs, though I don't think that's really factored into the price. I think Valve uses up a lot of bandwidth and there's probably a lot of server overhead.
Plus, most PC games start at $50 usually, anyway. And the sales on Steam are very righteous.

In Europe, Steam directly converts $ to € which has pissed a lot of people off. $50.00 = ~€40.00 currently but it was a lot worse earlier this year.

They wanted 50€ for Dawn of War 2...I think they still do...not acceptable if you ask me. Downloadgames HAVE to be cheaper than Disc-Versions, especially if you have to be online to play them, something the Publishers like to try out right now as it seems.
Still, I got quite some games from Steam but only cheap stuff.

Yeah Dimnos, it's a ridiculous system that has not been changed to this day. I don't even live in Europe and it pisses me off.
Just started Metro 2033 and Call of Juarez 2 and I am intrigued. Call of Juarez 2 is honestly the most un-American game I have ever played. Not to mention, racist.

I liked Portable Ops. The PSP is no place for a "real" Metal Gear game in my opinion and it was fun building up your stuff in PO. Still, I might give it a try, not much else coming out in the next few weeks...I think.

Eh, Peace Walker's got some Portable Ops stuff in there; you can still capture/recruit guys and put them in different divisions, and everything is still mission based. The reason this game isn't bland like PO though is that the maps aren't shitty. PO was just a bunch of rectangular cubes, and a bunch of the same ol' missions. I remember one map might have had stairs and ladders? Woo! Ladders! It was more like Diet Metal Gear. This is Portable Metal Gear.
I wish more than two whole people in the world still played PSP games. I want to try versus and co-op. That Love Box I have will never get fully used :(

Got to the part in MGS:Peace Walker where it becomes a time sink. Not only am I managing units, building weapons, and sending men out on missions, I'm building my own Metal Gear. Freaking awesome. Also, two-player Tank Box is awesome.
Bosses are fucking lame (generic vehicles that spit out troops) but three of them are actually really interesting since they're weird robot vehicles. That sing. I've never seen a tank that was capable of punching me with it's treads while boosting out of the room, singing a haunting song, then shouting out a few more notes before leaping onto the ground from the ceiling off camera.

(skip to 4:00 to see what I mean. It's hilarious.)
Oh, and recruiting people is way more awesome. You strap a fulton balloon onto someone and they just shoot up into the air and get picked up by plane. It's great.

You build your own Metal Gear (METAL GEARRRRR ?!)?
Alright, I´ll buy it.
By the way, did I mention that one of my lifelong dreams is to build a fucking mech/mecha/frame/gear/bot/Angriffsrüstung (just so the japanese can use another german word for Mech) and lay waste to a city? :)
One day. Mark my words. One day. If not in this life than in some other, preferably in one where I´m actually able to build...something. Right now, I´m just moderately good at breaking stuff...

I'm not sure how customizable it is. You salavage AI parts from three of the robot bosses, so I dunno if you can make drastically unique Metal Gears. The parts you get do depend on which ones aren't damaged when you fight them, so I don't know.
You CAN change what it says, though. (If the name "Vocaloid" rings a bell, that's the exact software the Metal Gear and robot bosses use.) You don't get it till you finish building and beat the main story, though, so I haven't tried it out. But full control over your talking mech's voice is pretty fucking clutch.

Oh, it doesn´t have to be customizable for me to like it, it´s just a nice thought, Snake (the good one, don´t like his "son" that much) building his first (?) Metal Gear.
For custom robot-carnage, I´ll wait for the next Front Mission or a good Armored Core (but I somehow doubt they´ll ever create a really good one).
Still running around in Fallout 3 and the Doc finally got his hands on the Blackhawk-Magnum-Thingy and the Fire-Chinagun (which sucks balls too sadly) He´s also very fond of his homemade mines and likes to blow Yao Guis and Deathclaws to bit with them. Coming along quite nicely.
