but.. but the story's actually GOOD in dead money :( from what i remember the holorifle kicks some heavy ass once you get out(it's basically a laser sniper rifle + damage over time with a nightvision scope) and i think i used the police revolver a lot after i was done too

Ohhh...Revolvers...there can never be enough handguns in a Fallout game...I remember trying to play F3 with the Chinese Pistol only because I fucking love the design of the Mauser C96...but sadly it´s the weakest gun in the whole game.
I did play a lot with Lucky in FNV though that was a lot of fun :)

Someone completed a no-kill playthrough of it some time ago. It's pretty close to the original Fallouts, as opposed to Fallout 3.
Was it a totally no kill playthrough? Or did he let his companions kill some bitches? Is there video of this shit? I was thinking about trying it myself on hardcore as a merchant type character with no combat skills. I was just going to take Boone with me so I wouldnt have to worry about anything. :lol

With companion murder. I don't know how you'd get through some parts without someone shooting someone else. My guess is that you'll need a lot of sneakiness and a ton of stealth boys. The finale alone comes to mind when I think of it, let alone any other incidental fight.

Ah, finally, the Mortal Kombat Demo is free for everyone.
Played it very briefly this morning and I really really like the simplicity of it. Not that many moves, Combos consist of 3 buttons max, easy to pull of specials and fatalities...mix that up with the three-stage-supermeter and you got yourself a really fun game it seems.
Day 1-purchase for sure.

Homefront:
I had high hopes for Homefront. It had a lot of potential; the first thirty minutes had my blood pumping and ready to KICK ASS. However, it started to fall flat pretty quickly. The first thing I noticed was that you can only carry 90 spare rounds for SMGs and assault rifles. This isn't much ammo even before you take into account that enemies take more damage in general than in, say, Call of Duty. The weapons also don't have much weight behind them; none of them feel particularly powerful, and there's little difference from weapon to weapon. Also, when you throw grenades, you don't get any sense of the fuse like in CoD when your crosshair pulses, and the grenade magically leaves your hand before you even complete the throw.
The environments aren't much better. You spend less time in iconic American settings, like baseball fields and malls, than you do in random, bombed-out suburbs and unrecognizable holding areas.
As for the story: It starts off with you getting your apartment busted into, and you getting arrested, thrown down the stairs, and carted away in a bus. On the way, you see quite a few honestly touching horrors of war, which got me ready to kick some ass. The bus then gets hit by an SUV, which kills everyone inside but you. A resistance member takes you (the exact pilot they were looking for, conveniently.) to their hideout, and you begin a plan to steal three tankers of fuel and take them to the Army. This mission will take up about 2/3 of the four-hour gameplay, by the way.
The characters are all pretty much useless. None of them have any development, and I couldn't relate to any of them at all. I honestly wouldn't have been affected in any way if any of them ended up dying.
As for multiplayer, I can't say, because the SERVERS WOULDN'T WORK.
tl;dr Bad/short campaign, boring gameplay, bad characters, non-functioning multiplayer (for me).

I got Homefront too but only for the multiplayer.
I don´t know what exactly was going on in THQ´s heads when they marketed that game. They only advertise the Singleplayer Mode with the oh-so-great story. Advertisement for the online-modes? None as far as I can tell.
That wouldn´t be so much of a problem...it´s just...well, the Singleplayer is utter bullshit and the online stuff is pretty great. It´s just that no one knows about it :D
Seriously. I played online for about 2 or 3 hours yesterday. Yes, the servers don´t work well right now cause even THQ themselves didn´t see what kind of game they released there aparently.
Anyway, Ground War is a really fun mode. It´s basically Capture and Hold with three objectives and two rounds of play (the objectives are moved after the first round). While there don´t seem to be many weapons, those that are there seem to be pretty unique and each seems to have it´s specific use. There´s one attachment-slot which can take unlockable scopes, grenade launchers and so on. There´s camo for the weapons (useless of course), a special grenade Slot (for flashbangs of EMPs etc.).
Now it gets more interesting. Next up are the perks we all know and love though here they give you three points you can spend on 1, 2 and 3 point-perks so you can either have 3 weak ones or one powerful and so on.
Where Homefont gets unique is the Battlepoints. Apart from earning XP while playing, every action you do for your team nets you BP which you can spend on two kinds of things. First are the buy-slots of which you can assign two to each Equipment-Set. For example, the Assault-Set has a Flak Jacket and an RPG as it´s default setup. If at any point in the game you have 300BP (about 3 kills for example), you just press up on the D-Pad and voila, a Flak Jacket to make you more resistant to enemy fire. There´s many other things you can buy with BP. Drones (more on those in a bit), Ammo Refils, Airstrikes and, most importantly: Vehicles. From Humvees to Tanks and Choppers, if you have the neccessary BP you can just spawn in a Tank if you want. Gotta unlock them by leveling though.
Finally a quick word on Drones. There´s at least 4 kind of Drones in the game and they all make sense (A drone takes up a BP-Slot so choose wisely). Most Drones work by just pressing a button, spawning the thing in front of you and then taking direct control of it until it is destroyed or you are killed.
The basic Drone is the Robot-with-a-gun-Drone, it´s nice for taking a cautious approach when it comes to storming buildings or scouting out the battlefield ahead since dying is usually not that advantagous caus you have to run quite a distance to get back into the action most of the time. The next Drone is the...Parrot I think, it´s just one of those little flying hover-thingies. It´s unarmed but you can use it to scout from the air and mark targets and enemies for your allies which in turn nets you more BP so being a Scout can pay off too if your secondary BP-Slot holds an Airstrike for example. The third is some kind of Anti-Vehicle Drone but I haven´t played around with it yet.
Anyway, to wrap this up, the Online Modes really have potential. They´re fun, they feel less hectic than Modern Warfare, it kind of feels fair most of the time, the whole Dronestuff and BP-Concept is really nice, the verhicles add another layer of complexity since it can really be a problem if someone walzes through your defenses with a tank an no one has any countermeassures.
Good game, but only online.

I don't suppose you'd be interested in Team Fortress. Minecraft is nice, (if a little "in," if that's something that matters to you.) The Fallouts are okay. I like the Witcher, myself. But I dunno. Mount and Blade is aight. And you should try and play Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I really dig it.

For the beta, yes. The classic version is for free but itīs just an editor more or less.
But Minecraft is worth every $ if you ask me. I paid 10 bucks for it, Iīd pay 30 without hesitating too. BUT there should be some kind of demo. And yeah, there's no real story to Mount and Blade, except there might be a little backstory behind your character that you get to pick. Most of it is randomly generated, I believe. You can become almost anything you want.

Now, I donīt care about the hostess-stuff either but Iīm gonna take a look at it, especially since I just read Tokyo Vice which explains the whole thing along with most other Kabukicho/Kamurocho-related activities quite well.

I'm digging Call of Pripyat off and on.
One thing I noticed is that there aren't any artifacts, or if there are they're really shitty and pump you full of radiation, which is never worth it.
I read something about having to use that weirdo flip-up sensor thing to find them, but I'm a hardcore shootin' motherfucker and Call of Pripyat is a lot less brutal than Shadow of Chernobyl, so I don't think being a superhuman death machine via radioactive magic is really necessary. It also makes artifacts seem like more of a commodity among Stalkers when you can't just walk outside and pick up a ridiculously good one while tiptoeing through the tulips.
I do miss being able to sprint forever, though. Even if you have an energy drink IV drip going you still have to stop for a breather every 40 feet.
Also, there's one mission early on in the game where a mob boss hires you to gun down a camp full of innocent rookie Stalkers, and you can opt to betray him instead and kill his whole hit squad. Buuuuuuuuut after I did that I went back to the place where he was chilling to see if I could kill him, too, and take all his mad mafia loot. He proceeded to amiably chat about the weather to me, despite the fact that I had just murdered all of his goons and exposed him as a royal dickhead to everyone else at his camp. So, yeah, maybe still a few bugs to work out, but it wouldn't be STALKER if everything worked like it was supposed to. Speaking of which, the dialogue is still at the mercy of Google Translator.
Dr. Boogie

You use the detectors to find artifacts in the field. The starting one just beeps more frequently the closer you get to one, but the more advanced ones show you dots on a radar screen for where it is and how rare each one is. You can find some pretty good ones right off the bat, like in that big cave complex near the burnt-out village. Lot of anomalies, but also the potential to score some phat loot.

Been playing a lot of Black Ops and now Batman: Arkham.
Zombies on Black Ops is fun as hell; when I paired up with a good team that kept close and talked to each other, we got to wave seventeen, and only died because one of us got greedy for a powerup and we lost the firepower. However, for every good match, there's a bad one, where some asshole who doesn't even have a mic will run around to other people's windows the first few rounds and kill the zombies, so HE can get the points. In later waves, it becomes completely terrifying; even having to reload can very well be a death sentence. And there's not much worse a feeling than wen you're backing away from a horde, wasting them left and right, then get taken out the instant you start to reload.
As for Batman, all I can say is FUCK. YES. I was pretty neutral about it at first, but got a friend to loan it to me, and I'm having a blast basically scaring the everloving shit out of random mooks; grabbing them and suspending them from gargoyles, throwing remote batarangs into groups of them from a hundred yards away and around a corner, and (my favorite) spraying a bunch of explosive gel on the walls and floor, luring them into it, and blowing them all across the room, leaving them in stunned heaps.

And yeah, sailing around sacking towns and shit in any order you wanted ought to be re-used in some sort of pirate RPG. It's awesome. I could see how some people wouldn't like it, though, since there aren't really a lot of encounters to spice up the traveling a bit. Some of them don't work right, either, like how those sharks that follow your boat will never, ever attack you as long as you're moving. I finished AlternativA, thank god
Honestly, if it weren't 25 dollars, I'd have considered it a fun little point-and-click nostalgia trip, but it's just too shitty to pay for. The one part of the plot that was interesting, the murder that gets the conspiracy investigation going, gets swept under the rug after you break into the morgue and steal the dead guy's eye.
And what the fuck, at the very end they find out that it's a conspiracy to invent time travel from Brazillian indian technology? This is literally never foreshadowed anywhere, and since you accidentally sabotaged it the game ends directly after this, so any paradox fun they could have put in gets completely ignored
Also, even with all the puzzle padding, where you have to talk to the same person over and over each time you make a little bit of progress, the game is something like 7 hours long. That was just me, though, and there were one or two times where I had to leave the game running while I watched a Let's Play of it to figure out what the fuck I was supposed to be doing. So, it's probably even shorter than that if you have a PhD in Ukranian moon-logic.
Not that I was expecting the game to not be horrible. Actually, it's slightly better than the trailer makes it look, but that's not saying much.

In other news, hey, Mirror's Edge is actually good. Also definitely one of the prettiest games I've ever played.
Actually, I wouldn't really call it a "game," it's more of a super-glorified tech demo. A linear series of seamlessly-connected scripted events, where the enemies exist to provide the illusion of threat rather than anything tangible, and because of this are such fucking horrifyingly bad shots that they would make a squadron of Imperial Stormtroopers double over and collapse in laughter. Except for when the game feels like being a fucker and has 5 of them hit every clip from their machineguns on you in about 1 second, although it only seems to happen when I don't go the way the game wants me to, so I guess it's just a more assholeish way of keeping me on the train tracks. It almost feels like if you took all the police officers out of the running sequences you'd just inexplicably drop dead if you went the wrong direction.
It's entertaining, I guess, but the wall-running flat out does not fucking work, and the combat with real actual NPC police is the most horrible and offensive use of QTE spam I've seen since the knife fight with Krauser.

"Why don't you just shoot everyone?"
"I didn't sign up for a third person shooter! Not to mention that your gun mechanics aren't much better!"

I couldn't even get past the fucking tutorial level, because it wouldn't even tell me what to do. It just said I needed to distract the guards, without telling me how. I had a coin or something, which I flicked out the window, and they didn't even budge. btc took me there for my belated birthday. This place was off the fucking hook. Huuuuuge pinball collection, every version of Street Fighter, a giant Blazblue cabinet, this really funky SNES cabinet that let you play Mario, F-Zero, and Super Tennis, and a shitload of other games. Seriously, it had every arcade and pinball game I've ever seen as a kid, except now I'm an adult so I can spend as much money as I want on tokens ($25 lasted me about 2 and a half hours).
btc apparently NEVER heard of REVOLUTION X, which means I had to show him the best Aerosmith Rescue Simulator known to man. I don't think I've ever seen him that happy to see Steven Tyler.
Seriously, there were so many games and pinball machines I haven't seen in ages (or haven't seen period) so this was a fucking treat. And I had enough tickets for a Mario shirt. I NEVER got to leave with prizes as a kid. We're definitely going back there again.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
The single player is pretty much Ass Creed 2 with a better city and a less interesting story. Still good, but it's not as engrossing the second time around. The multiplayer isn't anything to write home about, which is a shame, because Ubisoft were probably hoping it'd justify charging 50 dollars for what's functionally an expansion pack.
It reminds me a lot of Bloody Good Time's Hunt gamemode, only you can't really fight back against your pursuers; you just have to run your ass off and hide. Then when you do hide, you can expect them to pinpoint your location immediately and stab you in the face, since everyone has a compass that points them directly to their target, and anyone with a working brain can tell who is and isn't an NPC with only a cursory glance. You can also expect to kill a lot of people, but it's so fucking easy to do since they can't resist or really escape with any reliability, why bother?
I thought the concept of a primarily stealth-based multiplayer game wouldn't really work that well, since sneaking games generally rely on retarded, legally blind enemy NPCs, but Ubisoft fumbled it worse than I imagined they would.
Nobody talks, either. I guess silence is preferable to a middle-schooler girlishly cooing the word "faggot" at you over and over again, but it makes me feel like nobody really gives a shit.

Protip: The second key you need when you're stuck is in the room where you float up to meet Ruto, mid level.
Also, don't forget that there's loot underneath the room inside the middle spire; if you raise the water up a bit, that weird brown platform floats up and there's a passage under it.

I was beaten to a pulp by a Scorp-player yesterday after I destroyed his Jax with my Jade...turned out he knew how to play Scorp way better...then again, he didnīt have that much of a chance against my Smoke afterwards :).

Just beat Portal 2's singleplayer. Fantastic story. Level design was a lot harder, and there were a lot of moments outside of the test chambers that had me stumped, though a few times the solution had me thinking "how was I supposed to know to do THAT?" after staring at a room for awhile.
Aside from that, the puzzles were really good, the story was a lot different from the first one, and then it turns out there's a store for items in co-op, so you can make a living off this game now too.

You can if you want. But if you use the other viewing-mode (just press select to switch back and forth) you see the two combatants´ avatars standing on little pedestals flailing their arms while the waiting crowd cheers down below. After the fight, the crowd and the loser can rate the winner from 0-10...a nice way to show spammers what you think of them :)

I´ve only played King of the hill once though and the lag was really horrible which seems to be a location problem again. Against some people it´s 90% like the singleplayer in terms of lag, against others it´s about half a second to a whole second of lag. Almost unplayable. I am able to anticipate games like this to a certain degree and do certain things even with a second of lag but I can hardly win that way ;)

Two Worlds 2.
I wanted to like the first one, but there were just too many things wrong. That's why I was glad to see they fixed pretty much all my complaints in the sequel. Mostly I didn't like that monsters leveled up with you, but there were other issues, too.
There's less of the random dungeons, but the flipside is that the ones they have are better designed, rather than just a bunch of clone-stamped dungeons with mediocre loot.
The new upgrade system is nice, too. Instead of slapping together two similar items, you have the option to break down weapons and armor into their components (wood, iron, etc) and use those to upgrade your equipment based on your upgrading skill.
I've been going through the game as an archer. There was some struggling on the very first island, but I eventually realized that that was because there's some monsters that are your level, but there's also a bunch of those same monsters that are 8 levels above you on that same island. Now I'm getting through combat without too much trouble, plugging enemies from afar with slowing poison arrows and leveling them with multiarrow when they get too close. It's not too easy, though, which is nice.
I can honestly say I'm looking forward to my next playthrough. Maybe I'll try to get a handle on the complex magic system.

Well I made it to Novac and only had to run from one group of viper gunslingers and a single radscorpion. The second group of gunslingers I came across apparently forgot about the mines they planted on the road. As I was cowering behind a truck trying to think of where to run, I hear a loud boom followed by the silence of no one shooting at me.

New Vegas is some good shit, even if it crashes hourly on me.
As per usual with Bethesda, it's horribly buggy; NPCs will regularly get stuck in tables, the ground, and buildings, usually while they're fighting you, making shooting their ears off at point blank doubly hilarious.
I think my favorite quirk is how sometimes, generic townsfolk NPCs are supposed to take part in scripted events, and when the event is over and they start their "wander around staring at walls" routine again they'll all perform a certain action before they take off: light up a cigarette, say "HI THERE," etcetera. The problem is, when there's more than one NPC involved in the event, they tend to do these things in perfect unison when it's over. It's really fucking unsettling to have a group of like 10 guys all turn towards you and go "YOU WILL BE UPGRADED; MAN WILL BECOME CYBERMAN" at the exact same time when you finish a quest, I've had it happen like 5 times already.
The stealing system still seems to be wonky as fuck, too. I picked up a cigarette butt at the Primm casino, and everyone in the building turned around and shot me in the face for it. Not that it matters, since my stealth skill is so high that I can basically crouch in direct sunlight 5 feet away from the Pope and nobody will notice me. Not even when I'm wearing a spacesuit with reflective fishbowl headgear.

My biggest problems with the game are tat it seems to be a lot harder to find decent guns and ammo than in Fallout 3, to the point where I was stuck with generic, weak guns until the very end, and that on the extreme opposite it's REALLY easy to get tens of thousands of caps later in the game with no trouble at all. I'd basically go kill a shitload of high-level enemies, take their weapons, and sell them to merchants all over the place. By the end of the game, I had something like 20,000 caps or something around that figure.
Also, the Fat Man seems like it got nerfed a lot.

Yeah, it's almost like the ability to launch multiple tactical nuclear strikes might be a bit unbalanced.
One thing I'm worried about is the nerfing of unarmed combat. It's been overpowered as all hell in every Fallout game so far, but I haven't started my traditional "Fist of the North Star" playthrough yet so I don't know whether they kept it the same as the other three. I'm seeing a lot of boxing aids that cause "fatigue damage," which sounds like some bullshit. When I punch a man in the face in Fallout, I want that face to explode into a fine mist and fertilize the plant life.

At least in Fallout 3, the Fat Man was like a 'Oh fuck this shit, I don't want to deal with this bullshit' weapon. In New Vegas, it's just a really expensive and impractical missile launcher.
The unarmed is buffed compared to Fallout 3. I used spiked knuckles for a while, and was doing a pretty nice amount of damage, even without buffing my unarmed stats at all. I'm sure if you take Bloody Mess and raise your unarmed a shitload, you'll be popping torsos to your heart's desire.

Weapons a problem to find in New Vegas? No no no. They are rather easy to coem by early. I think somewhere in Goodsprings or somewhere right around there is a hunting rifle you can get almost right from the start.
The Fat Man and mini nukes do seam WAY underpowered. My last playthrough, when I was working for the Legion, I was down in the BoS bunker and they have some turrets all over the place. Shot the turret as close range as you can be without killing yourself and it barely took any damage. After three nukes it still wasnt even half dead. WTF!

Unarmed in New Vegas is insanely overpowered. Without even getting to many of the unarmed perks even. The only one you might need is the piercing strikes or whatever where you punch through armor. Get that and kill the guy outside Caesars tent to get his ballistic fist, that doesnt take shotgun ammo, and you will kill just about anything in one punch. If you crit you will even punch deathclaw heads off in one punch.
Oh and the Legion slam ability is balls awesome.

Niffy tip about unarmed and those pesky turrets in the BoS bunker if you dont have the science skill to hack them... If you walk up to them and start punching, none of the other turrets or the BoS guys will give a shit. Only the turret you are attacking will fight back and if you just sidestep around it while you punch it will never be able to target you.

I just started an unarmed specialist character. Her name is 'ME RIKEY PUNCHY'; her strength, endurance, and agility are 10, her luck is 7, and everything else is 1. We consider her functionally retarded, and she is completely chaotic neutral. Every single living creature she encounters MUST be killed. No excuses. I've been giving her stats in unarmed, medicine, lockpick, and stealth.
So far, the starting town, Primm, the NCR tents OUTSIDE Primm, that outpost down South, and Nipton are now completely devoid of life, ever since that teenage girl with a mohawk bludgeoned all their inhabitants and anything along her way to death with her bare fists.
This is really fucking fun. I failed the main quest within five minutes of getting control of her in the game; the only thing left to do is kill.

You could make an exception for specific vendors. Or you could have invested in repair instead of lockpick, I mean, who else but you is gonna repair your stuff when you kill the whole planet?
You donīt rely on the Gunrunners, not on the Energy-Chick either, it should be pretty easy keeping your weapons in shape and stockpiling a mountain of unarmed weapons and normal armors, right? Of course your caps are useless if your policy is to kill everything on sight :lol

I pretty much made it her thing to kill everything on sight. She bludgeoned the doctor to death the instant I got control of her weapons.
The lockpick was so that I could get into safes and stuff, because those tend to have some pretty good loot.
It really didn't help that I had the NCR Rangers stalking me, and none of my weapons were good enough to do any decent damage. I was finally able to take one out when I circle-strafed and punched her into unconsciousness with boxing gloves. :lol

Phoenix Gamma
May 10th, 2011, 09:15 PM
Brink's been getting some really iffy reviews. I'm avoiding it. Looks really sloppy.
Sword and Sorcery for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad is required playing for anyone who owns one of those devices. It's like if the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus guy made a game for the app store, except a teeny bit funny, and with an emphasis on music.
A coworker of mine has no friends, so I did Portal 2's coop with him even though I beat it. It was kind of frustrating, but I think everyone needs to experience the puzzle where you slam into each other.
I think I might start up Mega Man X again. I just got this (http://www.xl-shop.com/xlshop/product_images/BAN/D-ARTS-ROCKMAN-1.jpg) in the mail yesterday and it's the bitchinest Mega Man figure ever. Brink seems to have technical problems mainly, the bigges being constant freezes. I really hope they fix that soon.
Apart from that, the only thing that I really don´t like about the game is the aiming. It´s that fucking accellerated aiming FarCry2 used, it´s horrible for me. Why can´t they use the COD-aiming, about the only aiming that is perfect on consoles.
Anyway, those two things aside, I like Brink, especially the interaction of the different classes. You´d think that ammo is not that big an issue so the Soldier is just there to blow stuff up, but no, you only have about 3 clips of ammo on you so without a soldier around, you´re pretty much fucked.

I was excited for Brink; now that it's out, it looks like crap. The HUD is covered with too much crap, the characters look stupid, and the gameplay looks... boring. I like that it encourages teamwork, but I've heard the only way to make decent points is capturing objectives, and that sounds annoying.
I'm looking forward to Rage, though...

I think making kills mostly worthless is about the only way to get the people to focus more on teamwork which is what Brink is about ;) It doesn´t encourage it, it´s absolutely mandatory if you want to get anywhere in the game. It´s pretty clear that, unless your main task is to defend a spot, you WILL lose if you don´t work together in a senseful manner.
What´s wrong with the HUD for you? Looks fine to me, all the info I need.
The thing I don´t get is that reviews describe the game as complex or sometimes even complicated...honestly, what the fuck? It´s just a normal objective-based teamshooter, what´s complicated about that? People like that must think Deus Ex is a work of witchcraft :D
Rage on the other hand...looks boring. SO boring. 7 hrs of mindless shooting. Again. Thanks but no thanks.
LordSappington
May 11th, 2011, 02:00 AM
From what I can tell, you get little to no points for kills in Brink. If your teams sucks, then how are you supposed to get good EXP? At least with decent kill points you get something to walk away with.
And Rage looks pretty awesome to me; a tad generic, but it looks pretty as hell to me.
Oh, and as for the HUD, it looks WAY too damn crowded.
OxBlood
May 11th, 2011, 02:17 AM
The idea is that you can´t rack up decent XP with a bad team so your´re forced to be not as bad ;) You can always grab a friend to play with, form a fireteam and try to do something useful like getting supportstations or something like that.
I still don´t see the crowded thing in the HUD, looks normal to me. Life, Objectives, Weapons, Equipment, Kill-Log, Minimap, Messages. Nothing special there as far as I´m concerned and you do need all that info anyway. Which parts would you get rid of?
The main thing with Rage is the graphics, right? No wonder it doesn´t do anything for me
LordSappington
May 11th, 2011, 02:33 AM
Only problem with that is it depends on your friends having the game, too; none of my friends are ever online, or really buy many new games.
I'd put the objectives, kill-log, and messages at least on a separate page, like most games. I also constantly see icons popping up everywhere, which bugs me.
The graphics look great, but the environments are what really have me hooked. The Dead City trailer looks like a real city for once, not just a bunch of random cement skyscrapers. The buildings all look different and unique, and have decayed differently from each other. The guns look neat, too; I like how it looks like you can hip-fire with decent accuracy, but still have iron sights. I hate that in most games now; if you fire from the hip, even from five feet away, the bullets go all over the damn place. This is even worse when sniper rifles have a area the size of your screen without aiming, causing your bullet to go in the ceiling when you're inches away.
Didn't mean to rant there...

Ok that is a problem but they went through all that stuff to make the game enjoyable with strangers too...Iīll find out how well they did once more people have the game I guess.
The kill-log is pretty useless, on that I agree but the objectives and Icons are highly useful because they constantly keep you up to date on what has to be done. The objectives thing in the upper right shows you how far a repair or hackjob is and the time limit itself is pretty useful to know too because you only have a few minutes to fulfil a primary objective (which adds time again). The constant popups are important because they help your class do its job. You see the ammo-count of people when youīre a Soldier for example so you can tell when they run out. If they do, the game assigns you a little task to refill your comrades and if you do, you get bonus-xp.
A quick word about the progression-system. Itīs quite different from what most games do. XP is only for levels and levels only unlock new Outfits (which serve no purpose other than looking nice on you), the two other body-types, both of which are unlocked very early on and skill points of which you get 20 total in your whole carreer.
Weapons and all weapon-attachments are gained exclusively through Challenges which are pretty easy and short Singleplayer-Levels. This is strange but good at the same time since weapons are mostly the same anyway and this way you can unlock every gun before even playing the campaign or any online match.
The hard thing is deciding which perks to get. I personally am more a Medic and Engineer type of player so itīs pretty simple for me but all classes have extremely useful skills for the team. Even the Operative can help out if thereīs nothing else to do for him by spotting mines, hacking turrets and firewalling Supplypoints.
The things you say about Rage make me once again realize that I have no eye for details. It really gives me nothing if that city is realistic, Iīm all for gameplay normally. The only optical style I really love is pixel-art :) Do Rage like that and you got my interest.
I totally agree on the Sniper Rifle though, I know why they do that thing with the Zero-Accuracy from the hip but it makes no sense at all thematically...
LordSappington

The gameplay looks pretty neat to me, as well; I haven't been reading up on it, but the trailers show a bunch of cool stuff like alternate ammo types, a bunch of neat gadgets and sub-weapons, like a spider drone that hops around, shooting things and making cool nosies, a sort of boomerang blade wheel thing, and a deployable turret. There'll probably be more.
Trying not to be some sort of pre-release fanboy, but I'm excited for it. I might also get Duke Nukem; I'm just trying to decide if I want to just go ahead and buy it, or wait a while. Only problem is every time I wait to buy a game, by the time I get it hardly anyone plays it.

Alright, played some Brink the past few days and enjoying it a lot.
It´s apparently unplayable if it pairs people from different regions of the world but SD is working on it. Played it with two to three guys from here and there were no problems at all, not even freezing. When it works, it´s a lot of fun and my initialy horrible aiming is getting better too ;)
Right now, I prefer to play Engineer or Medic like I always do but those are also the classes I bought the most skills with, plus one of the guys I play with loves his soldier so much that we got that class covered anyway.
Still, I think Brink would fare better if they hadn´t invested any money in the SP-Cutscenes and writing and it cost around 20, 30 bucks retail.

Itīs more like I know my Bosses pretty well and they donīt mind as long as I do my daily work. Plus, Iīm working in the gaming industry more or less so it kinda comes with the job. I have to try out so many games on this PC anyway, one more really doesnīt matter.

How far into it are you Vare? I started the 2nd part when it first came out but didnt get to far before getting distracted by something else. It didnt really seam like a game so much as a story you just clicked the mouse button to progress. No options, no exploration, nothing. Just click click click. I hope that changes. But yeah good story so far.

...still having fun with Brink though I´m pretty sure I won´t be playing it a lot in the coming weeks once I trade my stuff in for L.A. Noire, RF Armageddon and Hunted...there´s so much worthless Shit in my collection that GS is taking in...I think I can live with that.
And I suppose I should continue Cthulhu saves the world, it´s really nice :)

I'm guessing you're trying to play on the PS3? Same issues here trying to play Black Ops online.
Oh, well. At least we're getting a bunch of free stuff, right? :)
Also, I'm playing through Infamous as evil Cole and it's disappointingly similar to good Cole. :\

Who's excited for Dark Souls? Because after beating Demon's Souls numerous times and seeing the neato footage for it, I'm getting jumpy with excitement.

I was but after reading one of the interviews...it seems their only goal was to create "Try and Error - the Videogame". Didn´t sound like fun at all, having everything at once thrown at you all the time.

It sounds like Demon's Souls, but harder. I dig it because I thought Demon's Souls' difficulty was extremely hyped. It was my favorite game in recent years, though, even after that.

Just beat Assassins Creed 2. What a shit pile of a story. Who the fuck were all these people and why the hell were they all involved? You need an army of conspirators to move a small treasure across Italy? I bet you would have a lot more success with that if you just hired one guy who could keep his pie hole shut about it.
Gameplay was alright though.

Played some Terraria today, that thing people know as "Minecraft in 2D". It´s pretty nice, more geared towards action and exploration, less towards building though you can basically build anything you like on a 2D-Basis of course. 10 bucks well spent if you ask me.

Long story short, I'm in the endgame and want my other game back.

The latest Fallout DLC is a pile of MEH. It's the most boring of the Fallout 3/NV DLCs. Dead Money is absolutely excellent, though. Really fucking sad, too.

L.A. Noire. Propably the best Rockstar game so far. The atmosphere is spot on and the cases are very interesting. It's one of those games that sucks you in like a good book.

I've heard that it is like a good book, in terms of linearity.
I'm planning on going through it then selling it before interest completely drops off, just like I did with RDR.

Yeah, I'm guessing there's not much replay value, but I'm just happy to play a game where you actually care about the characters and the story.

Also playing LA Noire. Very nice atmosphere though I of course know neither the late 40s nor L.A. but still, itīs quite enjoyable. I am having problems with the questionings though.
Now itīs not that I canīt tell when theyīre lying, my english is good enough for things like that, itīs linking the lie to a piece of evidence. Like the very first lie in the tutorial with the woman in the shoestore, thereīs no relation between what she says and the evidence presented to prove that she was lying.
I donīt get it. The same thing happens later in the first traffic-case too.
You know Mr. Morgan bought the Pig because the reciept was in the back of the car but that doesnīt mean he was at the scene, again, no relation. He mightīve bought the pig, put it in the trunk, drove the car back to the suspect and left while forgetting the reciept. Heīs involved, no doubt, but thereīs no proof whatsoever that he was at the trainyard.
Am I expecting to much logic here or is my own logic just flawed?

Also playing LA Noire.
Yeah, that spoiler bit baffled me too. There might've been a date of the receit though and since it was in the trunk, it was propably thrown there after taking the pig out. Still, it's all circumstantial.
It's best to choose "doubt" when you're sure the suspect is lying but the evidence just isn't there.

Playing LA Noire here too. It reminds me a lot of point and click games, but with the whole interrogation thing added to it. It's a really great game. One thing that does bother me is how my guy can be talking normally to a person and then when I hit the 'doubt' button, he will sometimes get really dickish with an attitude. I mean, sure, I suspect they're lying, but I don't exactly know that they are for a fact and I'm just laying into them.
