Well right now I'm playing "X-com: UFO Defense". I heard it was a brilliant retro title from various sources and I love strategy so I got a hold of it with much difficulty. It really is amazing to see such a complex and well thought out game engine in an early 90's game. Seriously, they should remake this NOW! The low rez graphics and buzzy sound effects are the only things hurting this game's perfection.

Guitar Woman
Sep 19th, 2008, 12:33 AM
Generally in Metroid style games there's only one or two paths open, and using them yields an item that lets you open up a blocked path in a previous location. Rinse, repeat, etc. Doesn't SotN also have a linear plot? So, if you're getting cutscenes, you're going the right way.

I'm sort of regretting getting Stalker. It's completely broken as fuck, like THQ just went in halfway through development and went "uh guys we're releasing this now ok"

I was instructed to download and install Oblivion Lost, which apparently fixes a lot of the vanilla release, but all I got was a folder with nonsense files and a readme that pretty much just says "lol now u have to install it"

The AI's really not too bright, either. I holed myself up in a barracks on a military research center and sat adjacent to the door while nearly everyone on the compound obediently shuffled into the room like shooting gallery ducks. There is a neat pile of bodies in the corner.

The game's still pretty fun, but there's a lot of wasted potential, here.

One of my favorite amusements involves stirring up alarm in a moderately sized enemy camp, sprinting away, and then hunting anyone who comes after me like an animal.

Finally? As in, it took you forever? That game is one of the easiest games I've ever played, never mind all the retardedly broken junk in it (Crissaegrim, Ring of Varda, Shield Rod + Alucard Shield). Then again, I've played it to the point where I've beat it in seven hours, 200%, with just fists, spells, and subweapons.

I'm still working my way though Uncharted:Drake's Fortune. The jumping puzzles are decent but I find jumping puzzles are only ever as good as a game's control system. Luckily Uncharted's is about the best I've ever used but occasionally it still breaks and causes some major frustrations.
The game also has a weird difficult curve. One minute you're fighting a few poorly armed guys and the next you're in some giant open area fighting a shit load of heavily armed guys that get re-enforced a few times during the fight. This also leads to some frustrating gameplay.
Decent game overall though.

And further proof that Bioshock contains no originality whatsoever.

Guitar Woman
Sep 25th, 2008, 01:22 AM
Ok, so Condemned has taken a trip to shittytown since I got to the school.

A minor complaint is how difficult to swallow everything's getting. I was like, "uh, what the fuck?" when the malnourished J-Horror kids in the subway station started crawling around on the ceiling. This sort of stuff belongs more in a Silent Hill game where supernatural shit is commonplace, but ok, I can dig it. Then in the school, I found myself face to face with a fat lunchlady wielding a meat cleaver and garbed in a blood-stained apron. It's ok, though, since it's an obvious homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and a classic horror element. What would drive someone to partake in such a dramatic display of psychoticness is beyond me, especially when everyone else has just been staggering around hitting me with pipes and shit. But I decided, "let's just go with the flow, here."

The big "fuck you" moment came when I was MAGICALLY TRANSPORTED to an alternate version of the empty pool I was tromping through, and while I'd be fine with that if they were going to implement more hallucinogenic mindfuckery like the furniture flying down the hall at that one part or your lab buddy crawling after you with a conduit, I actually have to fight this time, and the game starts spamming those J-Horror guys I mentioned earlier in waves of 5, unarmed.

In this game, unarmed enemies are about 20 times more dangerous than any number of bloody crazies with fire axes trying to lop off your head, since they can grab on to you and sap your health while holding you immobile. It's not that difficult to escape, but when there are three of the fuckers waiting for their turn at your throat after the current one gets shaken off, the situation is fucking retarded impossible to get away from. They latch on to you DIRECTLY after you shake free, too, and to make things even more ridiculous your vision is seriously impaired for a second after you escape. Also, they're about twice as fast as you, and the sprint meter runs out even fucking faster than the Spy's cloak in TF2, and recharges in the same amount of time. The super taser kills them in one shot, I think, but that thing also takes forever to recharge.

I absolutely cannot beat this part, even with a gun. There is difficulty in games: Mario Strikers Charged (against real people, of course. Anyone who can defeat the computer with regularity is a fucking alien), Gunstar Heroes, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry 3. And then there's shit like this, that is just fucking not fair.

As much as I like WW2 games, all the US patriotism in Airborne is starting to grate on my nerves. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game but having the characters say lines like "Of course we're going into the trenches - WE'RE AIRBORNE" is lame.

Underrated game though. To this day I find I difficult to think of a better looking game (with the possible exception of Crysis). Fun mix of realism and arcadeyness too.

Mega Man 9, Strong Bad Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

I seem to suck even worse at MM9 than I did at the old Mega Man games, I managed to finish MM2 quite easily when I downloaded it for the Wii but 9 is just kicking my ass here. Galaxy Man was easy enough, but after I beat him I haven't really made any progress.

The Strong Bad game is pretty cool, I'm not much of a fan of Homestar Runner (I'm only familiar with Strong Bad's email section) but I always enjoy a decent point and click adventure.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (or Lucifer's Call as it's known over here in Europe), on the other hand, seems like a very good JRPG. I've only been playing for a couple of hours so I can't say that much about the game, but it's definitely much more interesting than SMT: Digital Devil Saga which just bores me into sleep. I'm trying to finish both of these games before Persona 4 comes out in the US, but I'll probably never manage to complete DDS.

Great. Instead of October 10th, Fallout is now released on the 28th or something. Meaning there´s another month with NO games for me to play...I hate that, September already took forever to come out with something interesting and now October too?
At first I thought "Ah well, just play Silent Hill 5 until then"... BUT NO! Some retarded inbred idiot thought it would be funny to release it a little later here in Europe...IN FEBUARY!

What is so bad about evenly spreading game-releases...constant coverage is what it´s about. "But nah, we´ll just release everything on October 24-30, that´s a great idea! Nobody will have time to play all the games, so they have to choose one to play. And the younger ones? HA! They won´t even have the money to buy all of those games. We are so brilliant, yes we are!"

How about this:

Fallout, October 1st
Fable 2, October 10th
Dead Space, 20th
Silent Hill, October 31st.

How hard can that be? Everybody´s happy, we all have a decent game-coverage and not this clutted end of the month.

Damn I´m angry, sorry.

I thought (well, read on Wikipedia but anyway) that only the German version of SH: Homecoming was postponed to February and the rest of us in Europe would be getting it on October 30. If this is the case, maybe you could order the UK version when it comes out or something?

If for some reason the game is delayed until Feb 2009 in all of Europe and not just in Germany, I'll be somewhat annoyed as well.

And Condemned 1 is banned in Germany. That doesnīt matter though because it was released on time. Thatīs what Iīm talking about. Not the ability to get it, but the TIME when I can get it. Banned normal games are not a problem, only delayed ones. Banned XBL Games would be a problem if I cared about them. Imagine this, it is not possible for a german person to download Duke Nukem from XBL. Not without bending his internet connection into an abomination of wire and electro-trash at least.

Just because someone saw Duke3d back in the day and thought "Well, there the Tabledancers, you can give them money (which doesnīt do anything) and then you can shoot them and they explode in dollarbills...so you get rewarded for killing innocent tabledancers! DEVILRY! BANBANBAN! Or well, they put it on the index, so only 18+ can get it and no one may advertise. Or download it from XBL, no matter what his age may be. The only good thing is, that germany canīt really ban something before it is released..hehehe. Okay, and we have Austria, the UK and the Netherlands right around the corner, nobody in their right mind would buy a german release when they can get a UK. Except those unfortunate few young germans who never learned english...not that I am perfect but itīs more than enough to understand a Videogame.

But I must say, I am extremely surprised to see a country even more stuck up with this whole violence thing than us. And I feel the pain of the australian gamers, yes I do. Whatīs their excuse for *looks it up on wikipedia* being such an Nanny State? (hm, funny word)

Yeah, I guess I'm looking for a role playing game that's on PS2... Doesn't have to be fantasy - based. Sci-fi is good also. Looking for a story that sucks me in and mucho re-play with different classes, alignments, etc.

Doesn't have to be Dungeons and Dragons (official product) but since I live 5-8 years in the past, I have only started playing Neverwinter Nights.

I'll look into Demon Stone but any suggestions from anyone are encouraged...

Quoted for truth. But the protagonists are mostly very well done too. I really like Anthony for example...I think it was Anthony, the one with the cursed scroll.

The whole theme of these three ancient interstellar beings plotting against the Corpsegod and all of mankind for millennia is just excellent. The magic system was also really good in my opinion, even though it effectively negated ANY insanity later on if the player wanted to.

Someone really should make a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness. Imagine the quality of something like that with the systems from Part 1 and nice graphics and an equally awesome plot...Iīd exchange Silent Hill or most other franchises for that...except if they made another classic Resident Evil...that I would like even more.

It's like an anti-GTA4 - loud, brash, completely over the top, you can customize everything, the graphics are bright and colorful, and the whole thing is perfect mindless fun. I don't mean that GTA IV is bad in any way (I think it's a fantastic game with a great storyline and characters, no doubt about that), but somehow I find SR2 more enjoyable to play.

I also got Fallout 3 which seems really great, and also started Persona 3: FES again. Good times.

Downloaded Metal Slug Anthology for the PSP. I only played a little of MSX at Gamestop when it was still new, and a flash version online, so I wanted to try the entire series.

I really like it, and some of the different levels are just crazy. Hard as fuck; I really need unlimited continues right now.

Mostly FarCry 2 but I just ordered Left 4 Dead on steam as the demo is released today for people that pre-order.

It's really bad because I've got a ton of work on at the moment and a new Valve game is really the last thing I should be buying. I tried to ignore it's impending release but earlier I started feeling extremely anxious and pre-ordered it on Steam. I'm weak :(

Some of the best games made.

No way. They're too unfair. Not even necessarily hard; MS6 is absurd by the last mission; one screen is entirely covered with enemies who then proceed to fire bullets and cover the screen a second time. At least Contra is reasonable in enemy and bullet placement.

Downloaded the Left 4 Dead demo. Awesome game - only really let down by the lack of dedicated servers at this stage. I don't know if it's the AI director or what but there seems to be a lot of processing overhead when hosting a game. My PC is a couple of years old so I'm not exactly on the bleeding edge but I'd still like to think it's reasonably fast system - it was fast enough to host a Synergy server anyway.

Either way they've got the guns and enemies just right. Zombie purists may take issue with the fast, easy to kill, "Dawn of the dead" type zombies but I think they're perfect for this type of game. Great looking game too - lots of post processing and such to make it extremely cinematic.

I think it's safe to assume Valve have another hit on their hands.

5 stages = 27 continues x 3 lives = shot 81 times in a complete playthrough, all of which happened in the final two stages.

I'm going back to Contra 4. I think I can beat it on hard now.

Left 4 Dead is seriously one of the best games I've played in a long time. The server issues are sorted since they added a server browser (type "openserverbrowser" in console) and now it's just fantastic. Make sure you vote expert though as it makes it much more suspenseful. In the two days I've been playing I've had so many "oh shit" moments let alone "OH SHIT!" moments.

Is the game as fast-paced as they say or has it slowed down? When it comes to making quick decisions in video games I usually curl up into a ball and panic.

I felt like I made an unfair statement then. Me and a friend rented it for PS2 and I think it came with unlimited continues so it wasn't frustrating for me.

A different friend and I have been trying to beat Contra: Shattered Solider 2 player mode to get the good ending. We only play it while drinking and have yet to do it.....someday.

I used unlimited continues too, because that's the only way you can beat a Metal Slug without having each and every enemy memorized.

Deleted it off of my memory stick. I'm giving MGS:PO another shot.

Over the weekend I clocked in about 14 hours of L4D demo. Considering the demo contains only two fairly short maps when the full game is released it'll probably consume all my free time.

It's so frigging awesome though.

Just beat Metal Gear: Portable Ops. I learned to love it once I got over the fact that there's not a lot to do in the environments. Plus the load times are outrageously microscopic.

Waiting for PO+ to finish downloading so I can get more allies :D

Do people still play PO+ online? I wanna try multiplayer sometime.

So I'm trying Portable Ops+, and I keep organizing all of my weapons, but all of the missions have me going into the battlefield unfuckingarmed.

Then when I finish, I'm stuck reorganizing shit all over again. Then I'm stuck without weapons again. I want to stop reorganizing my guns and ammo and shit, but I know there's going to be that one time I can bring shit in with me, and I'll have nothing.

When can I finally bring my own crap into the missions, goddammit?

Order of Ecclesia, nice game, maybe not the best of the series but still very good. I still don´t know if I like the way of fragmenting the whole thing into these tiny levels but at least it´s easier to keep track of what´s where. A also try to play Gears2, Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 at the same time...but Far Cry keeps pissing me off, as does Gears on insane...

The new Animal Crossing got leaked. I played it at my friend's place. You can get Majora's Mask, Midna's Helmet, Samus' helmet and all of Link's clothes.

Supposedly someone found a new way to run the ISOs on Wiis, so I saved it just incase. EDIT: My roommate's getting it for free from work, so I'll wait. I hear it's the same old crap anyways.

I got to play through the DC side of MK VS DC last night. after playing through as different chars I enjoyed it a lot more.

Joker steals the show in the game though. Not saying this because of the joker craze that has been going on since dark knight came out. The way he fights in this game is just great, plain fisticuffs stance.

Favorite part playing through story mode on DC is when you find out who the boss is.....

Dark Khan (amalgam of Darkseid and Shao Kahn) and the camera pans over to Joker. The camera then pans back on him and he yells "KKKAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNN" a la Willy Shatner.
